General :: Microsoft Powerpoint - Convert .png Images Into A .ppt Presentation?
Apr 20, 2010
I've created a presentation as a series of .png images, one per slide. What is a good way to convert these into a .ppt (PowerPoint) that I can give to some audio-visual person? I'm entirely on Linux, with no Windows or Mac software available.(Or maybe PowerPoint isn't the only game in town for presentation file formats?)

I have been sent some file sI need to open but they are in .pub format. Having them sent in another format is not an option. I need to open them on Linux. Is there a tool which I can convert it into another format (preferably PDF) rather than having to mess around getting publisher installed on wine etc etc?

i have alot of images that need to be printed into a pdf.
i am not aware of any software that allows me to do this. and searching on the web is bringing to to alot of propitiatory garbage.
aside from openoffice, what alternatives do i have?
i do not prefer open office because it doesn't let me utilize the whole page smack-off-the-bat.
if it pasted images to the size they were meant to be (the whole page) it would be good enough for me (but its not ) the images need to be in a particular order.

Is there an easy way to batch convert CGM images into anything modern (preferably SVG, because they're vector graphics)? The furthest I've gotten is ImageMagick, which tries to open them, but dies saying it can't find "ralcgm", mhich I can't find in any repos.

I am currently generating some EPS images for my thesis and run into a 'practical' problem regarding their size.My method to generate them goes through a program which gives JPG files, and then I use "convert" to pass from the JPGs to a EPS:Code:convert File.jpg File.epsThe problem is that resulting EPS files are obscenely large which makes their inclusion in my thesis impractical.I know GIMP offers the same functionality (JPG > EPS) but considering I am working with many files I want to automatize the process (hence why I used "convert").Is there any way I can make "convert" to output smaller EPS files? Alternatively, is there another utility to do what I am doing?

I want to convert tiff -> jpg images with convert
Problem is that the tiff images are in a subdirectory structure like:
Directory_x -> subdir_y -> tiff images + textfiles
How will a script look like that does following:
1. Creates the same subdirectory structure
2. Converts tiff -> jpg
3. Copyes all the textfiles
So all in all, I want to create the same subdirectory structure but with tiff converted to jpg

I've spent a lot of time googling on this one, but could not really find anything that would convert HTML to images. Does anyone know if there are some command line tools that can do this? I need to convert simple HTML documents to images to be attached to Powerpoint presentations. Could firefox gecko be tapped into to do this without a GUI?

I have started using linux again and the programme that used to come with Suse back in 2003 was called "open office" since this is 2011 and im now using Ubuntu which suits me much better I need a word processor that can support .doc or create files that I can then open and edit with Microsoft word in university. Is there any word processor out there that sounds like what im looking for?
Lastly I also need atleast a PPT viewer to see my lecture slides and a program that can make powerpoint presentations or can be used and edited with Powerpoint would be great for my presentation work.

I know that ImageMagick's convert program can be used as follows to convert a collection of images -- say, in PNG format -- to a PDF file:
convert *png output.pdf
The problem with this is that each image is then stretched to fit on one page, whereas I would like to keep the original dimensions of the images and put as many as possible on one page in the PDF file before moving on to another page.

I am just spent half an hour hunting for a thing that should be totally available already:USB install images of Ubuntu, knoppix and all the others. And, the only good way are so far complicated tutorials where you extract the stuff from an CD image. Why??Hasn't everybody notices that CDs/DVDs are vanishing big time? That more and more systems don't have the readers anymore? Instead of following a 10 point instruction list, it would be nice to just be able to download a Ubuntu 8.10 or whatever USB image and be able to beam that DIRECTLY to a USB stick with a dd command.
Or am a missing something here? Does this exist? It should by no means be mariginal, considering how important USB stick in specific and flash memory in general have become.

All I'm trying to do is ShellExecute a program every time a new slide appears.
I'm using Office 2003 Powerpoint.
I did the following:
1. Tools, Options, Security Options, Macro Security, Security Level= Medium
2. Tools, Options, Macro, VBA Editor:
Code:
Sub OnSlideShowPageChange(ByVal SSW As SlideShowWindow)
MsgBox ("OnSlideShowPageChange")
End Sub
3. File, Save
4. Back to PowerPoint: F5) Slide Show, View Show <= Did NOT see the message box
5. Exit out of Powerpoint, reopen the .ppt file, F5) again <= Still don't see the message box
why isn't "OnSlideShowPageChange" getting invoked when I run the slide show?

I am running Linux from a DVD, not installed. I am not good with installing software, but since the DVD cannot be corrupted, I am content to operate this way. Lately, I have been having problems that previously did not occur. When I try to click on the checkbox to get rid of emails, it doesn't register in most cases, or when it does, I am clicking multiple times so it registers twice, meaning it is unchecked again. Even more frustrating is some issues that are affecting my ability to update my business. I am trying to modify spreadsheets (text not calculations).
Whenever I try to click & drag to select something to change, it keeps jumping around to select only some of what I want, something else or some combination of the 2. When I try to copy and paste several fields from 1 column to another, everything from the several fields in the source column ends up together in the last field in the target column. I am also trying to download some images from a website. There is a single column of links to the images. I have to click on the link to get to the image in order to copy it, then back out to continue looking for more links to do the same.
My computer keeps jumping back 2 steps, then forward 2 steps, and sometimes I lose my place in that list. I could deal with it if it were a small number of links, but this is a list of probably close to 20,000 links. Again, i am operating off of a live DVD so this should not be corruptible, but this has just started happening, and has been an issue the last several sessions.

Alright, so we have a customer that we plan on hooking up 2 Atom Nettops to TVs and having them display meal menus through powerpoint on them. They didn't come with Windows licenses and we are wanting to keep this cost low, so that's why we are doing this through Ubuntu. The plan so far is to ftp the .ppt file to each of the computers from a main Windows machine. I have the FTP servers up and running fine as well as VNC on both machines in case we need to access them. The path to the .ppt will remain static all the time so the filename and path will not change. Let's say it's called menu.ppt and it's located on the desktop of the user "user". I also have the 2 boxes automatically logging into the desktop. How can I launch this .ppt file on startup so that I don't have to touch the computer, just turn it on, and this menu.ppt will open and start playing? Or at the very least, open in OpenOffice or something of the sort and all the client has to do is VNC in and hit F5.

So here's what I'm after:
Create Ubuntu inside Virtualbox (done) Join it to the domain using net ads join -S example.com -u admin (done) Update the DNS using net ads dns register (done) Be able to visit the netbios name as defined in smb.conf (lets call it Bob). [Not done]
The problem I am having is that it looks like, even though the machine is now on the AD, and I can browse users in the AD, etc... My network configuration (IP/route tables, etc) are not correct.
For example, my AD server is in the 172 IP range, while BOB is sitting at 10.0.2.15.
The DNS server stores Bob's value as 10.0.2.15, so when I ping it from my workstation at 172, I end up getting no response (obviously it's on a different net).
Bob's route table is configured to deal with 10... range of IP, rather than 172.
I have attempted doing commands such as ifconfig eht0 172.16.1.118 netmask 255.255.255.0 and even editing the route tables, but that then makes outbound network traffic imposable.

I have access to a lot of throw away pc's as I pay a trash collector to drop them off once a month. Any xp on a pc that originally had win98, I intend to install puppy linux on and then offer them back to the public for a modest price of about 20 dollars each. I have much to learn, and the first task is to try to get seamonkey to read windows live mail. Thus far today there is a parsing error and I am about to get into that. Would it be better to try to install the very latest wary puppy linux, or to try to upgrade the seamonkey onto the 3.o puppy. Also I am using a version of puppy that was labled puppy-celeron, believing that the celeron processor in this old gateway essential 500 might match up with the driver selections on that particular disk.
