I have been sent some file sI need to open but they are in .pub format. Having them sent in another format is not an option. I need to open them on Linux. Is there a tool which I can convert it into another format (preferably PDF) rather than having to mess around getting publisher installed on wine etc etc?

Most of the agents create their flyers and signs in Microsoft Publisher, I tried Open Office 3.X and I'm unable to open or edit the files in question.Do have any suggestions or could you point me in the direction of a solid solution that will help me either convert the files or a program that can be used with-in OpenSuse 11.2 that can edit the files

mount -o umask=0 /dev/sdc1 /home/myhome/usbpen. It works, but only a switch to root can write and root usurp my directory. just format back to dos/fat16, will work. But a repartition of my pen don't get changed after a reboot. How am I supposed to go back to 'good-old-microsoft' format.
I've created a presentation as a series of .png images, one per slide. What is a good way to convert these into a .ppt (PowerPoint) that I can give to some audio-visual person? Right, I seem to get very random system crashes. My machine will stay up for long periods of time, or sometimes only a few mins, also it doesn't seem related to just using a particular program. As you can imagine this is leading to a bag of woes. After reading on a forum about logs I went to /var/log and in the system log found the following entry . . .

This is repeated multiple times and having checked after a few crashes seems to be the central problem. Being specific about the crashes, they freeze the entire system. Can't ctl-alt-del and sound loops, have to hard reset. I have a feeling that when I first installed Ubuntu 9.10 I selected to use an encrypted file system but have a feeling that I didn't set it up correctly. Not sure exactly what I didn't do but I seem to remember it was to do with generating a passphrase. So . . .
1) What is this error from my logs?
2) Is it linked to me not setting up the encrypted filesystem correctly?
3) Is there a way to check the settings / sort them out properly?
4) Is there documentation for my dullard state which can aid me in this, or is it quite simple?
I have some .mp4 files. While open this file using vlc-player the resolution is fine. Then I convert this .mp4 format to .avi format using "ffmpeg". While open the .avi file using vlc-player the resolution is not fine.
