I installed Docky in Ubuntu and I have it set to autohide. One problem is that if a window is maximized, then the docky is blocked. In order to see it, I have to unmaximize or moved windows. Can docky be made to appear above other windows?
View 1 RepliesI have got my Ubuntu desktop looking exactly how I want it apart from one little thing. I would like Docky to use a different icon theme then the one I am using for gnome. See these are the icons I want to use on Gnome/Nautilus: But these are the icons I want for Docky: So what I want to end up with is this: I have had a look in gconf-editor to see if there are any settings to do this but there doesn't seem to be any, I even tried adding a stringvalue with "icon_theme" and putting in the theme I wanted to use but that didn't work. Is there anyway I can manual edit a Docky config file to tell it what icon theme to use?

- Ubuntu 9.10
- GeForce GTX 285 with 195.36.15 drivers
- Compiz enabled

So i'm really loving the whole gnome-do/docky thing. My question is that on other docks, you can hold down a modifier key to launch a new instance rather then switching to an already opened instance of an app. So lets say I have chrome on the win7 dock
first click launches chrome
other clicks will focus the opened window
shift click will open a new instance of chrome
ctrl-shift-click will launch a new instance as admin
Is there anything similar in docky?
I am using docky on Ubuntu. I want to have a launcher for intellij in my docky bar, but I have an issue.No matter which method for adding the launcher to the dock I use, the intellij icon specified in my .desktop won't display. Instead I get the lame spring board launcher icon. Once I launch intellij it creates another icon on docky. So now I have intellij's correct icon and the spring board launcher icon. Once I close intellij we are back to just the spring board again.Does anyone have any idea what is going on here?I shouldalso note that "idea" launches a shell script if that mattersDesktop file

for instance, it said that "docky needs proper composition to work properly" when it was working properly before. after having too many flash applications open, after clicking on a link to a videos video, everything crashed, and it said that *for the 20th time now in a week* that kwin has crashed. then i tried to log out and log back in since that normally fixed everything, but i couldn't log out, instead i had to killall xorg but all that showed next was a black screen instead of what it should have shown, the login screen. i had reboot from the terminal and the login screen was normal, but when i booted in to kde, everything that needed opengl and composition crashed. docky doesn't have a black box around it, but it won't intellihide like it should *and i tried to set it back to that setting but it didn't give me the option to*
View 2 Replies View RelatedI had Windows 7 installed on my system, then I installed Debian testing with grub2 as its boot manager.Initially I couldn't see windows entry in grub at all, so I ran:aptitude install os-prober kcpuload update-grub Now I can see the entry, but when I select it I get only Win7 system restore, instead of the the real thing. Any ides how to make it work?
EDIT: I tried the suggested approach to add a new file to /etc/grub.d, which generated an entry in grub.cfg, but it does not appear in the grub menu on boot :(

View 2 Replies View RelatedI must display two different windows (different application) on a single X display/screen., with a small sticky window that display buttons to switch from one (virtual) screen to the other.
Although I thought this would be an easy task for a simple window manager like fvwm, I didn't get it to work.
I've tried fvwm in combination with the FvwmPager, but I keep getting problems to place the different windows in the different virtual desk or page (automatically).
e.g. if you do: xterm -title "Hello" and xterm -title "There", I want Hello to go to virtual screen 1 and There to go to virtual screen 2.
I've also tried using metacity and switching between workspaces.
Is there an example configuration available? I'm not fixed on a specific window manager.

So at boot up time, it does give a choice of selecting from the two if pressed any key, otherwise boots Centos. Now I wish to set it in such a way that Windows is the default OS to boot.

I'm rsync'ing a bunch of files between a Windows and a Linux system. Since not all Windows care about case, some of the files on the Windows system no longer have the same casing as they had on the Linux system. But rsync now treats these files as different and uploads a new copy.
Is it possible to have rsync ignore the case?
I'm using andLinux and for whatever reason, emacs seems to think that the file I'm editing has been changed every time I try to edit/save and keeps reprompting me. Very annoying. Is there a way to make emacs stop checking the file on the disk?

We're using rsync over ssh.What I've found is that characters such as ±, ¶,´ and £ are replaced on the Linux server with underscores.I don't mind if it changes these characters in the filenames of documents, but when it renames a language pack from Espa±ol.clx to Espa_ol.clx, it could cause issues for us further down the line.
What do I need to do differently to make the special characters copy over correctly? For the initial sync which will take place locally, before the machine is moved offsite, I have SAMBA enabled. I am able to copy files from Windows to the Samba share, retaining the original filename, though it looks different in the Linux directory listing, i.e. t̻st becomes ĻstThese files get deleted by rsync when it runs, as it does not match the filenames.
I want to make it now because it is still under the size of a dvd 3.7GB and i want to put it safe on a dvd to restore fast and not have to customize anything in case of a disaster , like me running dd again )

But if the virtual machine is shut down & restored, or rebooted, the Windows Network no longer shows it. I've tried refreshing many times, restarting Samba, disabling/enabling the virtual network adapter, and running the succession of commands ipconfig /release, ipconfig /flushdns, & ipconfig /renew, but none worked. As a last resort I could restart the host itself, but is there a better way?
