View 1 Repliesinstalled Adobe Reader as the root user. In KDE I can click the Adobe icon and it brings up he Adobe program. I can then do a search via the Adobe options for PDF files and display the PDF's. I can do this from just about any user.
However, what doesn't work is being able to try to open a PDF file and have the Adobe PDF reader display the file.
Is there any way I can associate Adobe or PDF files with Adobe so PDF file are opened with the Adobe reader.
Title sums up my problem. Im running so many processes in Slackware, running KDE. I dont even run that many programs, and already its more than XP has (by a **** load). What is wrong here, and how do i kill a lot of the processes to cut down on my cpu usage by tons and cut down memory usage while still keeping everything the same?
Heres a picture of my system monitor - img651 DOT imageshack DOT us/img651/5994/systemmonitorz.png
I didnt put image tags because its a fullscreen.
The memory rises over time, when I restarted my computer it was up to 500 - 600 mbps. At the minute after its at 360.
I am trying to create a function within my .bashrc that will process all of the files that do not end with .sh within a directory and execute them. The following is what I have so far. I am missing a way of excluding files that end with .sh though.
function startall {
for file in /etc/init.d/*.; do
"${file}" start

View 6 Replies View RelatedYesterday I updated some packages with the Update manager. A new version of evince was updated, too. However, no pdf, ps files can be opened by it after that.Running from the command line, get error like:"evince: symbol lookup error: evince: undefined symbol: ev_get_locale_dir"I just wonder how to solve this. Or how to rollback to older version?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI realise KPDF is quite old now but as this issue may recur when I move to a newer distro (well, newer than Hardy) with Okular I thought I'd better ask.I use Gnome, but prefer KPDF to evince when viewing PDF files. However, KPDF's "Open Recent" list behaves very oddly - there's no apparent way to clear it, and items which were on the list one day aren't on it another day (coinciding with old items reappearing on the list).
Is there any way to clear this list?Similarly, is there any way to clear the list of recently opened files in the "Location" drop-down box in File-Open? (which also seems to mysteriously lose list items inbetween reboots).
I was looking for a plugin to open pdf files in a new tab, acroread does but doesent remember the last view of the last file opened. So, is there a way to open pdf files through evince or okular within FF?

I have several web servers running Ubuntu 8.04 64-bit server and occasionally Apache sends my load to 13 and higher.
Is there a log that actually tracks the system load levels and possibly the processes running at the time and their percentage of the load?
At the basic level what I am looking for would be a log of top but not exactly that.
Ran the most recent updates several days ago and now System Monitor show my CPU at %100 constantly although it shows no processes running.

I want to run this program automatically without user interaction, and in order to do that I need to simulate key events.
How can I do such a thing?
The program I am running is partly java and partly shell.
The shell part is easily done by using:
./prog.sh <parameters (Parameters being a file containing parameters)
But the java doesn't work similarly.

View 4 Replies View RelatedIn the gnome-system-monitor, on the "Processes" tab in the "View" menu, I should be able to choose between "Active Processes", "All Processes", and "My Processes". The chooses are all greyed out and I am only able to view "My Processes".I launched the app as root and had the same lack of choice.I also disabled SELinux and rebooted the machine.

I ran and installation and the program opened up automatically but I can't find the program executable.
