Still I have failed to mount ntfs partition with this command..
mount -t ntfs /dev/hda1 /mnt
or
ntfs-3g /dev/hda1 /mnt
The error is .................
mount: unknown filesystem type 'ntfs'
I am using RHEL5.4 and kernel is 2.6.18-164.el5

Basically i am using md5sum to calculate the md5sum values of each file and redirecting to a file. And i am thinking of comparing the md5sum values.But i am finding it hard to decide how to complete the code after redirecting the output of calculation of md5sum to a file.

Jun 29, 2010I recently had data recovered and it was sent back to me on what I think is an NTFS drive. I copied all the files over to a file share I have on a Linux box, that's ext4. Now I have that share mounted on my OSX machine, and I can't move or rename most of the files. However, in a couple cases I was able to rename a folder after the third try. Another time I was able to rename a folder once, but not again. All the permissions are showing up the same on the command-line -- I can't see any differences between the permissions on any of the files/folders. Note that I can create new folders and add files no problem, and then rename and move those all I want.

I thought I just connect my other windows HD, mount it and then just copy all the folders I need. Unfortunatelly I'm getting cp: cannot create directory blabla - read-only file system. General :: Scripting Copying Files From A NTFS Partition?
Jan 22, 2010I record my lectures at school using my mobile phone then send them over wifi to my laptop and use a program to do volume correction all in windows. However, I want a exact copy of that folder in my home folder on my ubuntu install on a separate partition.I've been manually copying them over so far but I want to make a script that I can run to copy all new files over. I know a little bit about scripting, mounting the drive and actually copying files is easy, its figuring out how to determine new files and copy only those that I don't know how to do.

Will these Linus distros be able to access these drives? If so, to what degree? Apr 22, 2010First off let me say that I love working with Ubuntu. It's a great OS to learn Linux on. Now on to my problem. I have a laptop that dual boots. Ubuntu 9.10 x64 and Windows 7 Ultimate x64. Been working just fine. I was using NTFS-Config to auto mount the Win7 partition during startup of Ubuntu. It has been running fine. I am able to move files between the linux partition and the NTFS partition with no problem. Now I've come across a problem. I big problem. Just this week I installed VirtualBox onto Ubuntu. I started creating virtual machines. 6 in all (3 Win 2k3, 1 2k8 and 1 Win7). I was saving the virtual machines to the NTFS drive as this was by far my largest drive. I used a directory titled "virtualbox" under the c:/users/public directory. This setup was working great. Was able to get my vm's patched and up to date. Created several snapshots. Basically I was a happy camper.
Last night I booted into Windows 7. OS started fine. I was just surfing the web. After that I rebooted the system and entered Ubuntu and started Virtualbox. I tried to start a vm and it complained that the virtual harddrive was missing. I checked to make sure that the path was correct for the virtual drive and discovered that the entire virtualbox directory that I created on the NTFS partion was gone!!! Everything else was in place and intact including music and large video files that I had downloaded to the Ubuntu partion and moved the the NTFS partion.
I save these virtual machines???? Should I abandon using NTFS-Config. This is somewhat critical since I had took sometime to create this test lab and to have it disappear from simply booting into Windows 7 is crazy.
