View 1 RepliesI have just done a fresh install of 10.10 (full updates) with my new HD 4870, downloaded the last catalyst 11.6 from AMD, I have done the normal procedure of the driver installation, Ubuntu booted correctly, i changed some options in CCC, one of them the "video tearing option" after that X crashed, rebooted the machine, but it stays that way, before the login screen, the X crashes (corrupted image) only reset button restarts the machine.
I removed the installed driver, purged the configurations and started all over using the deb package creation procedure of the driver and also the manual script installation, but it stays the same way, removed again the driver, installed the OSS driver, it logins correctly, tested also with the restricted driver of the Ubuntu repository, it works, but no "video tearing option".
Done a new fresh install of 10.10 (no updates), installed the driver and enabled the "video tearing option", everything is ok, but if I upgrade the kernel the problem returns (if "video tearing option" is enable), i managed to overcome the video tearing option by always enabling VSYNC. After all this, my question is how can I reset CCC settings via command line, the aticonf --initial dont work in this case, CCC is keeping the settings in some config file (I think) that I dont know the location. I want to do some testing, and its annoying to remove, install , reinstall the driver when the X enters this crash loop.
I am trying to dual boot into Ubuntu and thus far everything works great on my machine. There is one HUGE issue.
I am running 2 Radeon 4870 Cards. Only one adapter will show at a time. I am used to Having 4 monitors and the max amount of Monitors it will allow me to have are two.
It does recognise the Second Adapter when I go into the Catalyst Control (it shows the option for Cross Firing) and it shows both adapters when I do:
Code:
I have tried:
Code:
The closest I had was that my main two monitors showed the splash page when the other two monitors on the other adapter were displayed. So It did switch once... But I have yet get all four monitors to work.
m using redhat 5.3 i have installed a driver for wifi as per my wireless card... i checkd my kernel version , nd it is as per the requirements... but i hve a file name iwl3945.ucode how to install the driver using this file...?

Im installing Ubuntu Server 9.04 from a CD, the installer works fine until i need to get the drivers for my RAID card. (this is asked when detecting disk on installation) I put the drivers onto a USB (MSDOS boot diskette) mounted it by pressing ALT+F2 to get a terminal during the installation. then copied the files from the USB to /tmp When I try and run the driver from /tmp i get.
Code:
# sh preinst.sh
sh: 2.4: unknown operand
sh: 2.6 unknown operand

I have tried everything I can think of to install the nouveau driver, which is the only one I can trust on my system with the Geforce 8800 card I received as a gift. I tried Nvidia direct download drivers before and it was impossible to alter the screen resolution and the "fixes"/patches were not able to correct that fact. And removing it led to my having to reinstall my system both times. So I'm done with those.
I realized that I could use the nouveau driver when I realized that the second OS on my dual boot system worked perfectly with it. It has the nouveau driver onboard. That OS is Ubuntu 10.04, btw. Also the system I want to install this driver on requires a screen resolution of 1280x960. The Ubuntu is at 1280x1024 for some reason, with the same monitor, it works.
How do I get my stable debian system to download the xserver-xorg-video-nouveau and meet all its dependencies without breaking my system? I even tried reloading Synaptic with the highest available software, but I still could not get the driver to install. What am I doing wrong? Is it just impossible to install this particular driver on my system? And if there's an old version of it I am willing to try that too.
Can do nothing with the PC. New install of 10.04 and was prompted to install Nvidia driver. Did so. Rebooted, now have nothing except a thin line at top of screen. How can I remove this driver when I see nothing?

Fortunately, I've got a Windows partition set up that can access the internet. Hence this post. How can I go about installing the driver?
Where can I download the driver from? Where should I put it on my hard drive? What command do I use to install the driver?
Edit:
I'm on a gateway laptop. I know I can't install the drive from within windows. I'm asking which driver to download and what command installs the driver from within Linux.
Edit2:
I can't use LAN in this case.
I'm still a bit green at Linux - not enough that the terminal scares me, but I still need to figure out with my 'networking' which programs do what. I'm still newly switched from Windows (though I've had a love affair with Linux live OSes for everytime I'm in between Windows OSes) and finally made the switch to Ubuntu. I have Wine installed for windows programs, and recently got a bit frustrated with OO Base, and went to install Microsoft Access (which I have training with) and while trying to figure out my install, Wine tells me it doesn't have any programs that read the 'autorun.inf' file. A little google fu tells me I kinda need an .inf reader for autorunning cds, dvds and the like. Anyone know where I can get the file? I tried to go through the Windows site and get the drivers downloaded for it, but I've hit a dead end.

View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter installing the nvidia drivers and rebooting my theme changed to an ugly gray theme. Changing the theme in the System>Preferences>Appearance only changes the window title bars but everything else stays in this ugly gray theme.
The drivers are installed and working (visual effects work).
I also updated everything from the Update Manager before rebooting. Also this is a brand new install. Only changes are from the Update Manager and the Driver utility. Every thing looked fine before I rebooted (default ubuntu 10.10 theme)
How can I get rid of the this gray theme?

I'm an experienced user in Windows but a complete novice in Linux. I have a dual boot with ubuntu and 7 ultimate, the thing is that Ubuntu doesn't recognize my wi-fi card. Windows Device Manager tells me that my card is "Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Minicard" made by Broadcom. I don't know if my problem is with a driver or incompatible hardware, the ISO is perfect because I already installed linux on every computer in my house.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI am running Fedora 14 on a Dell Lat D630 laptop.
When originally installing my resolution was a perfect 1440x900.
I then installed the Nvidia drivers with:
YUM install kmod-nvidia
This worked fine, I tried out Super Tux 2 to test it and I do indeed have 3D acceleration now. The only problem is my resolution has gone way down. The Nvidia software states its still 1440x900 but it definitely is not... And my monitor is down as (Not in front of it right now so cant remember exactly) Generic or not detected... Is that what's causing the issue?
So to summarize, I have 3D hardware acceleration, the appropriate Nvidia drivers, it's just my resolution and the fact the Nvidia software is lying about it...

View 6 Replies View RelatedAfter installing the ATI graphics driver that was suggested under System > Devices, ubuntu required a reboot. now it either hangs on boot, or boots into the Bash shell. I tried the option in the Grub boot llist to boot into recovery mode, and then teh option to fix recent update (or something like that), but it did not help.
Assuming the ATI driver is the problem, how can I back it out?
I used commands below to install the driver, but when i executed the last command,it always outputted "no adapter detected",why? video cards ATI HD5650 was indeed insert correctly. Then i restart.unfortunately,i can't come into system.the screen was always flickering.I can't do anything but reinstall Ubuntu.Who can tell me why? thanks (my Ubuntu was installed in VMware workstation)here is commands i used:1.sudo apt-get install build-essential cdbs fakeroot dh-make debhelper debconf libstdc++6 dkms libqtgui4
2.sh *.run --buildpkg
3.sudo dpkg -i *.deb
