Server :: Extending Volume - Suse10 ?

Mar 23, 2011

I have taken over looking after a EMC/Suse iscsi storage network. We recently run out of space on our virtual disk, so I added another 100GB from our storage pool using the EMC management software and the virtual disk the suse box is using expanded from 1.5TB to 1.6TB. That completed fine.

However the SuSe host is still showing 1.5TB. Do I need to extend the volume somehow? Or is it just a case of restarting the suse box. I have umounted and re-mounted but no change. It is imperitive the current data on there REMAINS INTACT!

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Read-only External HD - Ntfs-3g Unavailable On Suse10.2

Jan 1, 2010

I'd like to upgrade to suse 11.2 (currently using suse 10.2) and I've attached an external hard drive to save some data on, but it will only mount read-only, by either automount or by command line.

Here's the mount command I use (as root): mount -t ntfs -o rw /dev/sdb1 /media/ExpansionDrive

But when I look, permissions are dr-x------ 1 root root 4096 2009-12-05 13:38 cgate

Some related discussion on the opensuse forums has mentioned ntfs-3g, but my external filesystem type is ntfs. ntfs-3g is not available on my system currently or when I search for it with yast. I'm assuming I don't necessarily need ntfs-3g in order to mount my drive as read-write, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

How To Mount NTFS Filesystem Partition Read Write Access in openSUSE

However, these have not been specific enough to solve this particular issue. I can't think of any other possible problems other than the ntfs-3g.

Not sure if this is necessary, but I'm using SUSE 10.2, kernel 2.6.18.2-34, and the external drive is a Seagate 1TB.

Server :: Tunnel Apache Virtual Host To An Internal Apache?

Jan 24, 2010

I am upgrading my server and I have a lot of sites. Since I cannot take my server down for a few days, maybe a week until I manage to migrate all the sites to the new machine, I figured I could migrate them one by one. After migrating one, I would somehow tunnel the requests of that name virtual host to my internal machine. When everything is migrated, I would then switch the machines, update ip's and stuff and everything will work just fine.

However I cannot seem to find a way to do this tunneling. is this at all possible? If not, what alternatives do I have?

Question:
Do I configure the Tomcat on port 8443 (I want to run it as a non-root) and do nothing with Apache or do I run on the standard port 8080 and configure Apache?
If Tomcat, is it server.xml? (connector?)
If Apache, is it httpd.conf?

CentOS 5 :: Apache Error 403 - "Forbidden You Don't Have Permission To Access /bb/ On This Server" - 5.2 With Apache 2.2.3

Jan 20, 2011

I am installing Big Brother on a CentOS 5.2 running the default Apache 2.2.3. When I try to access any web page I get the following error: Forbidden You don't have permission to access /bb/ on this server. Apache/2.2.3 (CentOS) Server at fmsubbnix Port 80 So far I have:

1) Set the Directory options to FollowSymLinks
2) Verified all directory and file permissions are at 755
3) Set permissions temporarily to 777 and received same error so I am assuming the issue is in a config file somewhere
4) in hhtpd.conf verified <Files ~ "^.ht"> is correct
5) verified the "default" directory is correct (/var/www/html)

I have read and tried several ideas in posts listed on the web but to no avail and am at a loss as to what to look for next..

It is a simple home-PC running Fedora and I put Apache on for internal/local use only (so I can get to it from my Windows box).

Right now, I have to su (to root) and run the Apache startup command.

I'd like to have it simply come up when I log-in.

General :: Dynamic Proxy For Apache Or Something Else?

May 11, 2011

just a quick question. I was wondering if it is possible to do the following: suppose there is a www and it contains 3 pages: aboutus.php, index.php and contactus.php within each side there are 3 other pages you could say 1*.php,2*.php,3*.php, where * stands for any of {aboutus, index, contactus}. I was wondering how, if it is possible, to implement the following mechanism.

If users requires 2a.php go to aboutus/2aboutus.php or if it is 1i.php then go to index/1index.php. What this does it translates addresses that user requires into the original links that are stored at the server. Then, if I want to change the translation I just change the naming convention say 22a.php or 11i.php and updates my mapping mechanism. Is it possible to implement it with mod_proxy_http ? so that you could dynamically (at once, without restarting apache and without any delays) change this mapping to whatever you want ? maybe there is another module I should look at ? Or shall I implement it myself?

General :: Apache Server Behind A Router?

May 1, 2011

I am running an apache2 server in ubuntu. When I connect my laptop directly to my modem, I can access my web page (from any computer or phone) without any problems.I start getting weird issues when I try running my web server behind my DLink 524 router. It will run perfectly for about an hour or so then the web page will become inaccessible from any computer except the one which I am running my server on. I have made sure to forward and requests to port 80 on my machine and I have also set the router firewall to allow access through port 80 and port 443. I don't get any error messages in my apache2 log when my site goes down.Since the site worked perfectly when my computer was connected directly to my modem, I figure it has to be a router problem.

General :: Changing User For Apache / PHP?

Oct 25, 2010

I have to develop a php script, that acts as a man-in-the middle for a db-like-software and a webshop. This should run on a server within a DMZ, behind two firewalls, that should filter every request from other sources, than the eshop, and any other protocol than HTTPS. This server is a debian-machine, with a apache 2.2 and php 5.3. I've installed apache and php without any problems, installed openssl, generated a certificat and installed it. I tested the connection successfully. The eshop-server can connect to the server inside the DMZ without problems and receives a correct answer.

The db-like-software (called "netbasic") generates a csv-file in a fixed directory. this csv-fils has an owner called "netbasic". The file-access-rights are: -rwxr--r-- (I've some problems to interpret this. I know, r stands for read and w for write, x for both and the order is for different usergroups). My problem is now, that my php-script tries to read the file (successfull), generates output (successfull) and then deletes the file (failed -> permission denied). I figured out, that the problem is, that apache (or, I don't know, just php) don't runs as root and has therefore no write-permission. Because the server is already secured with the firewalls, we, my workmates and me, don't see a problem, to change the apache-user to root. but I don't know how this is done and don't know, what to search for.
