I have a strange problem. Since the installation of my system, my fingerprint device has been found, but I never intended to use. Months later I wanted to try libfprint and fprintd and successfully compiled it. But when I started the fprint_demo program it said no device found. Then I typed lsusb and saw my Fingerprint device was missing.

I am working on a project that requires fingerprint reader support. So, I installed the libfprint and libfprint-devel packages on my Fedora 14 system, to support my Authentec AES 2501 fingerprint reader. I know that my device is alright because it is working fine on the Windows 7 installed on the same system. In fedora, the fingerprint reader is recognized, when I run the fprintd-enroll command. The prompt to enroll the fingerprint is displayed on terminal. But, it just stands when I swipe my finger. I have tried everything but cannot resolve the issue. The output of usb-devices command shows "Driver=none" under fingerprint sensor usb device. But, I have the libfprint installed.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've recently noticed that whenever I log in via fingerprint reader (AES2501), my system behaves strangely.
For example, the Gnome panels take almost a full minute to appear after everything else has been loaded, and there's no NetworkManager icon in the panel - even though nm-applet (and thus NetworkManager) is running as shown by top; that can be (partially) solved by killing NetworkManager, restarting dbus, and then manually running NetworkManager.
None of that happens when logging in using a password.
Short of not using my fingerprint reader, what can I do?
I have a DigitalPersona U.are.U 4000 Fingerprint Reader. I can run fprintd-enroll, and the device turns on, but it does not recognise anything that touches it. 'yum install *fprint*'

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been struggling to try to get a fingerprint reader working for CentOS 5.X. It seems that everything I read refers me to BioAPI-1.2.2 and pam_bioapi. I currently have an older model of a UPEK fingerprint reader and downloaded the SDK that is compatible with the model, but have not quite made it that far. I can't seem to get the BioAPI to install and compile properly.
From what i've read is that the BioAPI is so old that the code just isn't compatible with CentOS 5.X, only 4.X and other early OS's. Does anybody have any tips for me or suggestions for a desktop fingerprint reader for CentOS 5.X? (yes i have thought about other distros, but it's not my choice, its the head honcho)
Hey, im new to linux but i like it very much. recently built decent computer and put Mint 10 on it. every thing works fine but get a strange message after I install the driver for nvidia video card. Message is an edac error "device not found" E7xxx.? Not sure of any of it. System still works fine. Graphics are working great. Also the linux mint boot screen changed to some generic looking screen that says Linux Mint 10 in an old dot matrix type format.

Anyone running fedora 11 have any luck getting a smart card reader added as a security device under firefox?
Specifically from firefox: Edit-Preferences-Advanced-Encryption tab-Security_Devices-Load;
Enter arbitrary name and "/usr/lib64/libcoolkeypk11.so" as the module.
This worked fine in fedora10 and was the necessary step to getting a card reader to work with firefox. In fedora11 (with firefox beta) the browser just comes back with nothing, it doesn't even respond. Note I am familiar with the concept of pki and certificates as well as certutil, pkcs11_inspect, pklogin_finder, etc. Also note utlities like pkcs11_inspect and pklogin_finder and esc all work and communicate with the reader and read the contents of the card but smart card login configured via the authentication applet (as working in fedora 10) is not working either.
I've taken the kernel 2.6.33.3 and edited the .config file to take out most of the compatibility etc. that I will not be using. I'm run the makes and updated grub. I installed ubuntu on sda 7 (when I go into disk utilities it shows up as sda 7 idk why) alongside another ubuntu on sda 5 ( EXTENDEDPARTITION : sda 5-6-7 ) so I could remove mandriva bootloader.Since I did, I removed ubuntu (sda 7) since it wasn't necessary but after it gave me the grub file not found.Obviously yes, since GRUB was installed from sda 7 but i have another grub.conf on sda 5 and I would like to know how to change the path of the grub reader to sda 5? or must I install all over again de grub loader?

It seems to have become the default reader now. However, I never wanted to change from Evince :this simple program is well enough for me. I tried various ways, but I can't define Evince as my default .pdf reader. How can I make Evince to become my default reader again please ?

I have a Dell Vostro 3300, i5 460 processor with a NVIDIA 310M Graphics Card. I'm doing a KUBUNTU 10.10 (Maverick) install with the following results. The Live CD boots just fine to, "TEST," or "Install." Installation goes fine. However, the graphics card being used is the Intel i915. I have tried installing the NVIDIA drivers directly from the, "Additional Drivers," tool and after the reboot I get through the boot screen to the console. I try to manually startx and I get the errors, "no device found," "no screens found." The second install I tried purging and blacklisting the nouveau drivers and entering safe mode. Then using apt-get install nvidia-current. After that, nvidia-xconfig. Same results.
The third attempt I re-installed and this time downloaded the drivers from the Nvidia site (version 256.53). Blacklisted nouveau, remove all nvidia, updated initramfs, etc. The install went fine however I still end up at a console after boot with the same messages as above. No device found, no screens found. I've tried searching through the forum and web and have tried things like adding the modset option along with many other hacks, tips and fixes. still, no go.I can live with the Intel graphics for now although I lose 512MB of memory. Unfortunately there is no way to disable or change this set-up in the BIOS. I've seen quite a few bug reports at Launchpad:
1. Is this something I should just wait til a fix comes? Will a fix come?
2. Is there, or will there be an official Updated Ubuntu Guide for Maverick to install NVIDIA drivers with this tecnology?
3. Lastly, is there anything else I should try??
I installed debian 4.0 (etch) on an old computer with some pickled graphics card in it, and then I upgraded the computer to one with slightly newer hardware only without the graphics card (the new one used on board graphics). I moved the hard drive from the old one to the new one but when I booted it up it failed to start the X-server and I got some errors listed for "device not found" and "no screens found".
I tried using "dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" however I can't seem to find a working configuration. It seems pretty silly that when installing debian it can detect all this automatically with no problems but when it comes to changing some hardware around you are left in the dark with a complicated re-configuration process. Is there not some way to automate this? I'd rather not have to re-install everything

I just bought an hp 6500 wireless printer, and after taking 5 minutes to set it up (amazing how easy it is to get hardware working that supported by Linux) I was happily printing...But- I haven't managed to get it to scan from my desktop pc running 9.04. Tells me no device is found. I added the printer to a laptop running 9.10, and it scanned perfectly straight away...
I've been through the Ubuntu help documentation and haven't found a solution.I think that maybe Turbo Print (for our old Canon printer) might have messed something up. I had to uninstall Turbo Print to get the printer to work (it hijacked Ubuntu's built in printing stuff).

Everything is good, but when i boot the new kernel i get "Bar 6: No parent found of for device" for 2 devices - the ethernet LAN card and the sound card. After 1 minute waiting the kernel starts booting and everything works fine (the LAN and the SOUND card too). How can i fix this and what means it exactly?
I tried with other kernel - 2.6.35 and 2.6.34
I have made linux raid array, named it md1 and it can be found under /dev/md1. I have created single partition (whole disk) of type LVM (8e) and it can be found under /dev/md1/md1p1.
When I run: pvcreate /dev/md1/md1p1
I get this message: Device /dev/md1/md1p1 not found (or ignored by filtering).
But if I run pvcreate /dev/md1
Everything went OK. I can create volume group and logical groups after that.
I haven't found anything specifically on net, except that partition for LVM to work should be of type 8e. Does this doesn't have to be true when we use whole disk as a VG? Should I expect any problems since this is going to be iSCSI target disk?
I looked and have tcpdump installed on ubuntu 10.04 lts I can do a tcpdump --help and it gives the commands.I get no device found when I do tcpdump from the terminal window.my Ubuntu is having trouble looking up domains it just sits there and hangs looking up google.comI'm on a ATT 3mb DSL dry line running an asus netbook and a biostar via mobo desktop they both have trouble looking up domains right out of the DSL modem.I would try to set the DNS in ubuntu but I don't know how to do that without knowing the gateway and such. I have to get the IP of the computer, the netmask, the gateway, and the DNS for the manual setup.
