Mar 25, 2010I just installed openSUSE 11.2 KDE when I tried to enable fingerprint authentication yast didn't ask me to swipe my finger it was working properly on GNOME.

Feb 21, 2011I am working on a project that requires fingerprint reader support. So, I installed the libfprint and libfprint-devel packages on my Fedora 14 system, to support my Authentec AES 2501 fingerprint reader. I know that my device is alright because it is working fine on the Windows 7 installed on the same system. In fedora, the fingerprint reader is recognized, when I run the fprintd-enroll command. The prompt to enroll the fingerprint is displayed on terminal. But, it just stands when I swipe my finger. I have tried everything but cannot resolve the issue. The output of usb-devices command shows "Driver=none" under fingerprint sensor usb device. But, I have the libfprint installed.

Ubuntu :: System Behaves Strangely Whenever I Log In Via Fingerprint Reader (AES2501) / What To Do?
Jun 12, 2010I've recently noticed that whenever I log in via fingerprint reader (AES2501), my system behaves strangely.
For example, the Gnome panels take almost a full minute to appear after everything else has been loaded, and there's no NetworkManager icon in the panel - even though nm-applet (and thus NetworkManager) is running as shown by top; that can be (partially) solved by killing NetworkManager, restarting dbus, and then manually running NetworkManager.
None of that happens when logging in using a password.
Short of not using my fingerprint reader, what can I do?

Feb 23, 2010I have been struggling to try to get a fingerprint reader working for CentOS 5.X. It seems that everything I read refers me to BioAPI-1.2.2 and pam_bioapi. I currently have an older model of a UPEK fingerprint reader and downloaded the SDK that is compatible with the model, but have not quite made it that far. I can't seem to get the BioAPI to install and compile properly.
From what i've read is that the BioAPI is so old that the code just isn't compatible with CentOS 5.X, only 4.X and other early OS's. Does anybody have any tips for me or suggestions for a desktop fingerprint reader for CentOS 5.X? (yes i have thought about other distros, but it's not my choice, its the head honcho)

Aug 31, 2010I have openSUSE 11.2, 64 bits. I use Evince from the very beginning. Since a few weeks, when I want to open a .pdf file, Acrobat Reader appears and reads my file. It seems to have become the default reader now. However, I never wanted to change from Evince :this simple program is well enough for me. I tried various ways, but I can't define Evince as my default .pdf reader. How can I make Evince to become my default reader again please ?

Mar 28, 2011I have a thinkpad T510i with fingerprint reader. The device is detected by opensuse 11.4. I have enabled the reader in yast, went to the user management, selected my user and started the fingerprint plugin to read my fingerprint. The readers green led is on and it asks me to move my index over the reader. When I do this, it says registering fingerprint done, do it again, Sucessful prints: 1 (the equivalent in german). Ok, I do it again and the message changes to Successful prints: 2 and so on until it says fingerprint was sucessfully registered. And now? This is all i get:

I cant find fingerprints anywhere on the disk. Where should they be located? What names would the files have?

May 19, 2010I am running Ubuntu 9.04 and need to access government sites that require a cac card login. I followed every instruction posted [URL] on how to set up the cac reader, but it is not working in firefox. Pcsc_scan detects the card reader and the card when it is inserted with the following output:

When I loaded the device in firefox's security devices, it loaded fine without any error, but does not allow me to login (the button is disabled). In the Details pane the status is shown as "not present".

Since a week or two, clicking a link to a pdf file will not load in Firefox. I tried removing Adobe Reader and reinstalling it. Then the pdf files loaded, but now again they will not load. It just stopped working! No error messages.

Apr 3, 2011I'm using 10.04 and it's been excellent all the way through up until this problem happened. My laptop's built-in SD card reader has stopped working out of nowhere.
Here are the basic facts:Laptop is a Compaq Presario CQ50-115NR I tried older Linux Kernels, it's not the newest kernel causing the problem. The SD card reader is not shown in disk utility anymore. It used to be shown, even when no SD card was inserted. Now? Nothing.lspci output:

OpenSUSE Install :: Install The 'fingerprint' Theme Upon Boot?
Sep 10, 2009currently using, openSuSE v11.1 kde v4.3.1.i have, bootsplash, splashy, kdm4 installed.im trying to install the 'fingerprint' theme upon boot.I have autologin enabled for kde. I've tried to install it via splashy, 'splashy_config --set-theme fingerprint' and it works when i do 'splashy --test fingerprint' but when i reboot it doesnt implement it. same old green theme.have also tried to install it through 'login manager' it says its loaded but again, reboot and same default opensuse green logos. ive been following instruction from the theme located at kde-look.org. it looks fantastic.

Feb 20, 2010I have just updated my system from openSuse 11.1 to openSuse 11.2, all is working fine. Now I would like to install the Adobe Reader program downloading it from the official website. I can use Evince to see PDF files... Unfortunately Evince shows strange defects over the images contained in the PDF file (strange white vertical lines and other little things).
I want try to use the original Adobe reader to check if those defects will go away so I can print the document (on Windows the pdf file is displayed perfectly). I have gone to this address to download the latest version:

When I presse the "Download" button I go to another page. In this page I select the 9.3.1 version and then the "enu" directory (I suppose that "enu" stays for "english", I'm right? )
After that I block myself; as I see there are only i386 and i486 version available, but I have the i586 architecture. This means that the Adobe Reader is not available for my Linux system? Maybe I have got the wrong download address?

Feb 22, 2011Using openSUSE 11.3 (64-bit), KDE environment. I am very, very new and inexperienced with Linux... I would like to download and read some e-books using my desktop PC. I poked around the Internet with Google and found several recommendations for an e-book reader called Calibre. So I found it in the openSUSE repository and installed v. 0.6.53-3.3.1 using YaST2. But the darned thing does not seem to work -- I click on the icon and nothing happens!!

I have install pcsc ccid and coolkey through Yast but not sure if I need to do anything else. Everything works fine but cards inserted into the internal SD card reader are not read, and from what I can tell the reader is not recognized at all by openSUSE on my system. The reader does not appear listed in hardware information and is not listed with the command fdisk -l . There appear to be no references at all to the reader. The reader is recognized, however, on a live USB of Linux Mint 11, where the model is listed as "Generic - xD/SD/M.S." (the vendor too), revision 1.00. It is listed as an SCSI Controller scsi5. Typing lsscsi in the termal of openSUSE provides the following:

Fedora Hardware :: Sudo Does Not Work With Fingerprint (SU Still Do)
Jan 20, 2010Since yesterday my sudo doesn't work with my fingerprintreader anymore. su and GDM still do. sudo just asks me for the password instead of asking for a finger-swipe. AFAIR I changed nothing, but I accidentally forwarded the USB-Port on which the scanner is connected to VMware. I disconnected it, but maybe there could be the problem.
Fedora 12 x64, Thinkpad T61 integrated Fingerreader.
