General :: How Does The Documentation Of CentOS/RHEL Compare To Some Of The Other Distros
Oct 29, 2010documentation on the "stable" war-horse OSs. I am impressed for example on the community support of Ubuntu, Slackware, and impressed by the formal documentation of Arch and Gentoo.
1. However, how does the documentation of CentOS/RHEL compare to some of the other distros? and
2. How about compared to similar OSs, like Debian

Dec 21, 2010I've been attempting to install GEANT4 (a physics simulation program thing) however, I keep running into an issue. I've attempted to find answers within GEANT Documentation, but this seems to be experienced often by users, but not addressed within their documentation. Anyways, when I try to build it says I have installation errors, and the only one I can find within the output is this:

Ubuntu :: Find No Documentation With For Recording Macros?
Jun 6, 2011I am using LibreOffice under Ubuntu 10.10 and Windows XP, and trying to record some macros. I can find no documentation with for recording macros. There are some forum threads of individuals, but the replies all recommend external programs. LibreOffice has its own macro recorder, doesn't it? It is on the Tools menu, as in previous versions of OpenOffice, but "record macro" is blanked out. Is this because LibreOffice 3 can't do macros? I have no idea why an external program should be needed.

the applejuice library and to dynamically link the orangejuice library. If orangejuice uses the applejuice library anywhere however,the applejuice is also linked dynamically. Is it correct to assume that this is correct and describes the true functionality of those two flags in gcc? (ie: Bstatic and Bdynamic are used for mixing static and shared libraries during linking)Is it correct to assume that the same applies to g++ as well?

Jan 4, 2011I'm migrating a custom RHEL5.5 install DVD to RHEL6 and am having some trouble with the Kickstart script. All things work great with 5.5 but if just copying it over to use with version 6 some things don't work. For example creating a user, doesn't create his home directory, neither automatically nor when using --homedir option. Another example when creating logical volumes I used to use the --percent option with RHEL5.5 which worked perfectly but for some reason crashes under 6. When I set the size to fixed then it works. Does anyone have any idea where I can find up to date documentation for kickstart configuration under RHEL6?

The Completely Fair Queuing (cfq) scheduler in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5appears to have worse I/O read performance than in version 4. It appears as though the Completely Fair Queuing I/O scheduler (cfq) has a regression and thus exhibits reduced read-side throughput which can affect performance for both local and NFS mounted file systems.
One way to mitigate this is to set the cfq's slice_idle parameter to zero. To change this value, execute the following command echo 0 > slice_idle in the /sys/block directory appropriate for your situation, as shown below:
echo 0 > /sys/block/hda/queue/iosched/slice_idle
We are using NFS file systems in RHEL 5.3. I would like to know how to find which /dev/Device is being used by the NFS file systems, so that I could try setting the slice_idle to '0' to see if there is any difference in performance? In /etc/fstab I only see the actual NAS volumes for the NFS file systems.

Jan 20, 2011I compiled my own kernel with tun/tap and bridge support. Both modules load fine at boot time (I could read that in the dmesg output). Now I want to use it, and the /dev/net/tun node is not there, so my application gives that error. I'm trying to bridge openvpn connections. Is it possible that udevd is not doing his work?
PS: I'm on a WD MyBook World Ed NAS device. It's ARM, so I cross compiled the kernel from my debian linux machine. I also installed debian on the NAS.)

Dec 21, 2010I'm currently trying to get my wireless card to work with ndiswrapper after installing backtrack4 today, BUT.When I try and use the make command it tells me that some or another file is missing. I've checked and the output is right, There is no file of that name but there is neither a folder of that name.
