General :: Where To Find 3rd Party Repository For RHEL 5
Feb 27, 2010
Where I can find a legitimate 3rd party repository that provides rpm packages for RHEL 5? My trial subscription to the Red Hat Network has expired and I want to be able to test installing packages so that I can prepare for the RHCT examination.
To set a yum repository i copied all the packages of Server folder from RHEL 5.1 DVD to my /home/repo , Some one told me that before making new repodata , delete the old folder named repodata and a file named TRANS.TBL which already exist in Server folder of RHEL 5.1 DVD.
I know that Rhel without purchasing we cant do yum update,I heard that Rhel and centos are similar we can change the repository of Rhel to take from yum repo of centos. can you please list out the steps to carry it out.
During the installation of RHEL it asks that you may enter the installation number to get packages , updates .....etc, now my server is up and running and i need to get the number that I added during installation
What is the substitute for RHEL repository? I know that we can use cent-OS/ fedora repository, but can someone please tell me what exactly is required in the yum.repo file. My computer details are as mentioned.
$uname -a Linux example.com 2.6.18-92.el5 #1 SMP Tue Apr 29 13:16:12 EDT 2008 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux[/B]
The Completely Fair Queuing (cfq) scheduler in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5appears to have worse I/O read performance than in version 4. It appears as though the Completely Fair Queuing I/O scheduler (cfq) has a regression and thus exhibits reduced read-side throughput which can affect performance for both local and NFS mounted file systems.
One way to mitigate this is to set the cfq's slice_idle parameter to zero. To change this value, execute the following command echo 0 > slice_idle in the /sys/block directory appropriate for your situation, as shown below:
echo 0 > /sys/block/hda/queue/iosched/slice_idle
We are using NFS file systems in RHEL 5.3. I would like to know how to find which /dev/Device is being used by the NFS file systems, so that I could try setting the slice_idle to '0' to see if there is any difference in performance? In /etc/fstab I only see the actual NAS volumes for the NFS file systems.
i have a Linux Box running RHEL and has no internet connection, hence i need to setup a local repository which i can be able to install packages together with their dependencies.
I've been trying to get my wireless working on the livecd to make sure its possible before I install it, but, I get a ton of errors when I install RPM's
Code:
Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py", line 1649, in install_files txmbr = self.yumbase.installLocal(inst_file)
[code]....
RepoError: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: fedora. verify its path and try again I get that one trying to install a driver installer from [URL]
when i was trying to install perl with fedora using yum: # yum install perl i got the following error: Loaded plugins: presto, refresh-packagekit Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: fedora. Please verify its path and try again
When I tell yum to update i get this error, Quote: $ yum update Loaded plugins: presto, refresh-packagekit Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: InstallMedia. Please verify its path and try again
can not ping from host (RHEL 6) to RHEL 5 in (virtual)? I have stopped iptables on both machines. But still not able to ping from host machine to virtual.
Can I separately install a third party boot loader which can boot both Windows and Linux (Ubuntu) . I want to use a boot loader other than the boot loaders which come with these operating systems. I am trying this out of curiosity.
Downloaded 11.2 64bit. Burned the ISO. Tried to install. It works fine, until it probes for the repositories, but cannot find them. I tried on two machines with three different dvd drives.
I am trying to download RHEL 5.4 AS version for testing..But under [URL] There is no specific link for AS version or ES version..How can I detect which iso is for AS and which one for ES..? There are separate links for AS and ES version for RHEL 4.x version but why is it not available for RHEL 5.x versions?
I load up Package Manager in Fedora, select 'Fonts' on the left so as to show all Fedora repository font packages, and then see all the individual font packages available for installation. I am looking for a range of fonts for my documents (some artistic, some not, I'm not sure exactly what I want), and so I want to view a sample of the font in each package eg. 'The quick brown fox jumps over...' written in the font.
After selecting a font package in PackageManager, I can click on the 'Homepage' link and go to possibly see a sample of the font. But this 'Homepage' clicking has to be done manually for each font package, over and over, for possibly hundreds of font packages!!! Where can I find a single long webpage (possibly divided into categories) which has short samples of all Fedora repository fonts?? A page I can scan down quickly to find the fonts I like.
Sbopkg 0.32.0 doesn't find slackbuilds 13.1 repository even though I have modified the sbopkg.conf. Is there going to be an updated sbopkg in the near future?
I need to install some software which allows me to read chm files. I cannot seem to find the appropriate package in the base repository. How can I install such a reader?
