I am comiling some programs on Linux using gcc previously compiled using cc compiler on Solaris. Below are some of the confusions:
1. There is -xildoff option in cc which is giving error "language ildoff not recognized". xildoff in cc is for switching off the option of incremental editor ild. Is there anything equivalent on gcc?
2. There is runtime link option in cc as -R but gcc just says "unrecognised option". Does gcc only supports LD_RUN_PATH?
3. There is -Xa option to force cc to chose a particular flavor of c.Its for default c and K&R C. gcc has -std option but not sure which one is equivalent to -Xa in c. It seems -std=c90?
I'm building the 2.6.34 kernel and I notice some interesting options, which you may want to consider including in the build, if you are building it:

Is there a way to find out with what options a library was configured with when it was installed? I am trying to install a library on my system that depends on gasnet and it requires me to configure it with the very same options that gasnet was configured with. Gasnet was not originally installed by me, so I cannot tell. I can see bin/, include/, lib/ and share/ directories in the gasnet folder and no other information in it. To be specific, I need to use the same CFLAGS that were used during installation of gasnet. For example, if it was installed using '-g -O2', I have to make sure I use the same CFLAGS here.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have Kubuntu 10.10 and Back Track 4 (BT4) Linux installed on my system. I think BT4 is based on Ubuntu 8.10.
I have the following line for my kernel boot options in /etc/default/grub file.
Code:
I need the rootdelay option for the Kubuntu 10.10 kernel but the BT4 kernel does not need it. But looks like setting this has a global effect and it waits for 80 (seconds ?) even when starting the BT4 kernel which is not required.
So is there a way to give the rootdelay option only to the Kubuntu 10.10 kernel and not to the BT4 kernel.
The problem I'm facing is that I can't use my headphone. Sound works, but not the headphone. See my ealier thread. It was suggested to edit the module options, but I don't quite know which buttons to push.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI was having some problems with a "memory exhausted" error, I have come to find out that my kernel is not built for largefiles. What options in my .config do I need to have enabled for Large File Support? I diff'd my current .config and Slackware's huge config, because I found out the huge kernel could handle ~3G files, but did not see anything that looked related to largefiles.
View 13 Replies View RelatedMy ubuntu bootloader has 3 kernel to choose,
Ubuntu 2.6.35-26-generic
Ubuntu 2.6.35-25-generic

All can boot into linux, when I use uname -a to check, it has its name as above.
I'm just wondering what the options are if one wants to try a 'newer' kernel and/or XServer version.
Either on an installed system or virtual machine (for e.g., Squeeze in VirtualBox).
On an installed system, on Debian Sqeeze (or Testing), if one wants to upgrade to 2.6.36 kernel and/or XServer 1.9, what are the options? I noticed that 1.9 is available in experimental so one has to enable and load the experimental package repository?
As for the kernel, I guess there's a few options? One includes installing the liquorix kernel? Best choice/alternative is compiling?
I have a problem with my touchpad, sometime it doesn't work at start-up and this happens randomly.

I'd like to add the equivalent of to kopt in the old grub.
I looked into the grub2 documentation, [url]
I am not even sure if I have to modify /etc/grub.d/40_custom or 10_linux.
I want to compile a kernel to add a few options that are not enabled in the huge-smp-2.6.29.6 that comes with slackware. specifically, i want to add TASK_DELAY_ACCT and TASK_IO_ACCOUNTING so that I can use iotop. I just want to add those 2 options to the new kernel, everything else I'd like to keep the way it is as the system has been running just fine. Will running 'make menuconfig' in /usr/src/linux default to the options that are used in the stock kernel?

- screen powers down on closing the lid only, else never powers down / or after a certain time.
- the machine never powers down, either on AC or on battery.
- screen dims on battery after some time, but no on AC.
- hard drive never powers down.
I previously used Fedora 14 and earlier version on my laptops, and could easily set these power management either through the Screensaver, or directly from another menu. Also, I enabled the "Blank Screen Only" mode in the Screensaver, and disabled the "Lock Screen After", but it still asks for a password after some time. How can I stop that?
I am looking to compile a kernel for my system which is a home built machine. This machine is stable and has not had any hardware changes in the past 2 years. I am trying to figure out exactly what modules and options to include in my custom kernel. Is there a way to see what modules are actually in use on my system and build a custom kernel based on that?

View 1 Replies View RelatedFirst time trying anything like this. I'm running a Abit NF7 with a silicon image 3112 that's support was broken in 2.6.35. I get a kernel panic when VFS can't find the root partition, I can't remember the exact line (can't log it, root isn't mounted yet) but it says something like sata1: link down (sstatus 0 scontrol 0). I think there might be a more telling error message before, but it flies by too fast to see or capture with my camera video recorder.
There's a patch that reverts back to when there was a delay in /drivers/ata/libata-sff.c in the function ata_sff_tf_load, by calling ata_wait_idle(ap) which fixes the issue for some people but not my system. I don't know anything about what I'm doing, but I thought I'd go through and add printk's in each function in sata_sil and see how far the device was initialized. I did this but they all happen early in the boot that flies by. Is there any way to add a pause like the "more" command? [URL]
