Jul 4, 2010I am trying to install ndiswrapper, and have gotten as far as extracting the .gz file. However, when I type in the "make" command, it returns the error message:
Cannot find kernel version in /usr/src/linux-2.6.21.5, is it configured? Stop.
I do not have anything in the folder /usr/src, so I don't know where it might be. I'd like to install this, so it will make my switch to Linux easier.

Mar 9, 2011We have not actually purchased support on a 2nd seat yet, so I can't go to them for this yet, and purchasing the seat may be silly if the machine can't run the OS.
I have tried several times to install RHEL 6 workstation onto a server machine. It has a dual drive RAID filesystem, whose configuration I had nothing to do with. The install procedes nicely but Displays a mdam error 127 before shutting down for the first real boot.
When booting a weird progress bar with at least 3 colors proceding at different rates displays for about 5 seconds followed by a very verbose kernel panic error which mentions tainted swap and scheduling while atomic. I suspect the error that caused the mess runs off screen too quickly to record.
Does anybody have a clue what might be happening? Even if I install minimal this happens so it appears to be a very low level hardware problem rather than a corrupt package.
I should mention that the machine runs on ubuntu 10.10 just fine, but my Lab PI wants to run it as a redhat system.

because we want UID/GUID to be mapped from names. This way, server and client do not need the users to share same UID/GUID. In that case,
1. Should i set those 2 fields to "no" and "yes" respectively instead?
2. Or else, how do i make sure that the uid on the server is mapped to something useful on the client instead of nobody and nogroup?

Aug 2, 2010I have used Linux off and on over the years and had to go back to windows because of a problem I could not solve. That is no longer true and I have been using Linux (Ubuntu) for the last year or so and I consider it superior to other OS'S and a BIG thanks to all who contribute to make it so great and free. My question is that on some versions of Ubuntu some hardware might work fine(or an package for that matter)and in the next version it might not work. Are new drivers required for every new version? Do all driver work for all versions of Linux using the same kernel?

Jan 30, 2010I have Ubuntu 9.10 installed on my laptop.And I am going to install mediaplayer from its "*.deb" file, But it requires a lot of other packages and each of those packages needs others and so on.Since I do not have internet connection on my Ubuntu and my internet connection is in Win XP, so I should download these packages and then check them in my Ubuntu and see what other packages it needs and download them and so on.
It is a very time consuming task. If I could find out what are all the required packages I could download all of them at once and then I could install them by "sudo dpkg -i *".Therefore I am wondering if there is a way to know which packages are the required ones for a typical package, my work would be much more easier.

Not only in Arch but have tried installing on other distros and still failed. I have read up all the documentations and I still find it hard to do this task. When I used the terminal and executed the NVIDIA-Linux-x86-94.43.01-pkg1.run file without any window manager running, I get this problem:
