What file system choices do I have for fedora 14, what is suggested and can parted magic provide that system?I am loading fedora on the second hard drive of my laptop with windows 7 and XP pro on the other hard drive and I will also be repartitioning and reformating the first hard drive because windows 7 is 64 bit and the xp is 32.

Alright so I'm currently in the process of trying to transfer a wubi install of ubuntu to an actual partition using LVPM. I need to use unetbootin with parted magic mounted (not sure if that's the right term) to my hard disk rather than a bootable flash drive. So I set everything up, downloaded parted magic ISO, ran unetbootin and selected the file everything installed smoothly. I then restart my computer and unetbootin is indeed in the boot list but when I select it, it remains at a black screen. I left it at the black screen for about ten minutes and nothing happened. I've tried a few times and nothing.
View 2 Replies View RelatedParted Magic doesn't detect the SSD for some reason. I've been trying to install ANY form of Linux onto my chromebook, wiping the SSD first and then installing Linux to it. For the last few months actively trying to do so, all has failed. I decided to get an m.2 connector that plugins into a gpu slot to connect it to my desktop (the SSD is micro-sized...) and it fits perfectly, but when opening Parted Magic from a simple USB drive, all my devices show up except my SSD.
Previously, the installations of Linux onto my Chromebook have always failed with a "not enough memory" message, trying all solutions found online and responding to other's posts, they suggested me to do this since they can't see the problem either. I never knew a basic wipe on an SSD, and installation of Linux would be so difficult. Everyone online says "it's so easy even without crouton" and is plug-in-play essentially. No, it is not.
The problem is when I boot from the lubuntu CD & select Try Lubuntu or Install Lubuntu the computer hangs. Xubuntu 10.04 was aready installed & I could easily boot to it. I thought may be some partition table error is causing that issue & I deleted all the existing partitions with Parted Magic Cd in Console Mode.
NB: When I tried to boot to the Parted Magic graphical session the PC hanged then too.I am totally confused. Cant understand what is going wrong here. I am now left with a broken system.
When I run 'parted' and then type 'print' to see the partitions that are available, I see two entries: /dev/sda1 and /dev/sda2. /dev/sda1 is of ext3 type whereas for /dev/sda2 nothing is specified for file system type. The LVM flags are set for /dev/sda2.
When I tried to resize /dev/sda2, it gives me the error "File system type not recognized". let me know how to find out the file system type of the partition.
I'm working on a midrange NAS system basically running on Linux and I got to do some great testing today. The step-by-step lead me to using fsdb to corrupt the magic number on a file system in order to corrupt it / test the script that should fix it.

It seems to install fine, but when I press the link to run the program it always says there is no file type associated with this program. Here is the site to download it: [URL]. I've tried the full and reduced versions, and I tried building it from source, which I have no idea how to do. I am using Fedora 10. Also, I've gone to their linux guy and he tried to help, but has never used Fedora, and so nothing he said worked.

But now Im thinking about resizing my hard drive so that I can install windows so my brother can play games on it ( probly giving 50 Gigs to windows )I heard that parted ( located on slackware cd 1 ) is what I should use. View 2 Replies View RelatedI have 2 identical disks, /dev/sda and /dev/sdb. I have a raid-2 configuration (/dev/md0) on /dev/sda3 and /dev/sdb3 partitions. On top of /dev/md0, I am running LVM. There are also partitions sda4 and sdb4 following sda3 and sdb3 respectively but the data in there are not important. What I want to do is delete the sda4 and sdb4 partitions and extend sda3 and sdb3 to the end of disk, and grow the md0 and the volume group of course *without* loss of data.

UBUNTU is on all of the HD no unused partitions that I can see or other windows system here at all. I would like to completely remove UBUNTU and remove GRUB also. and be able to use this HDD for a windows system. Most of the threads I have read here in the forum relate to removing ubuntu from a dual OS HDD . There is talk of using partition magic or other utility to remove or change the partitions,but most of them are about a dual OS system, whereas I have an HDD with only ubuntu on it. It doesn't seem to go quite as smoothly in Kubuntu 9.10 These are the steps I followed: I unpacked the kernel in /usr/src and ran make && make modules_install succesfully. Then I copied the kernel in arch/x86/boot/bzImage to /boot/bzImage-2.6.32 This entry is the one given by Kubuntu:

I just read the script that update grub uses. Changed the name of the kernel from xyz to vmlinuz-2.6.32-generic and it worked.
So 2 days ago everything was all fine on my machine. Has been for about a month, but all of a sudden as of yesterday I have no sound, I am seeing IRQ interupts on boot, During boot I am seeing file system is not clean, , and swap space is being used for the first time while doing normal task, etc. These are 2 new hard drives in RAID 1 with ReiserFS. I should have used a newer FS but thats a whole other argument.
Anyways here we go.

Especially, for those which have different colors in the background also like some have green background colors and are written in green some have yellow background and are written in black,why is it so?

I work for a company that makes portable devices running Linux and I was recently asked to make the underlying file system read-only for "security" purposes. Since the distribution is based on LinuxFromScratch, I know that very little writing happens at run time. So, even if the device runs on a usb flash device, I doubt that putting the root file system RO will be that beneficial. I am actually more concerned about a process actually breaking because it cannot open a file in RW mode than a process going rogue and filling the root file system with log files, etc. I'd really like to ear what kind of advantages disadvantages there really is with read-only file-systems.
