How do I enable/disable a stick pointing device in Ubuntu (9.10)? How can I configure clicking and scrolling with the stick pointer? (I can't click with the stick and scroll the page.)
View 1 RepliesI have a Dell Latitude D400 laptop running Wheezy (I can't upgrade to Jesse at the moment) and I want to try out the Pointing Stick on my keyboard. If you Google "Pointing Stick" you can find images of it. It's located in the middle of the "G", "H", and "B" keys. Now it doesn't do squat so I'd like to enable the Pointing Stick. How exactly would I do that?
I'm not looking to use it full time, I just want to play around with it.
Sometimes when I restart, my NTFS drives will mount in incorrect directories. It seems to only happen when I plug in USB devices such as flash drives, and keep them in when I boot. I have the fstab file configured correctly, but it still resorts to some odd default mounting points. Edit suposedly the device name changes whenever I boot with a flash drive plugged in. Is there anyway to mount a disk to a dir without pointing to its changing device name.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have installed 10.04 on several machines as well as imbedded inside VISTA. All of these installs work fine except the one on my HP Pavillion dv9000. The synaptics device on these machines is very touchy in all operating systems, but caused a strange issue in ubuntu 10.10. While connected to the internet and working fine I barely touched the pad and everything quit. I rebooted and found no way to reconnect to the internet. On the panel there was a little icon about the connection manager. Hovering over this icon gave the message "Connection Manager daemon not working". The usual tab to "enable networking" was dim and could not be activated.
I searched for several hours and found no reference regarding this daemon. Is there a source of the op sys names for such daemons and what sort of terminal command would I use to restart it if I knew what it was called? I ended up scrubbing the partition and reinstalling. Even the recovery process would not get the daemon to restart.
In order to try to rescue a USB stick which has probably a corrupted allocation table, I would like to get the device.I'm using Ubuntu 10 as a guest in VirtualBox, Host: Win7. Windows just tells me that the USB is not formatted.When tail -f /var/log/messages and I insert the USB stick, there won't be anything appended.
fdisk -l does not show anything.
How do I find the device that a usb stick is tied to (eg. /dev/sdc)

When I plug in my 8 GB SanDisk Cruzer USB stick into my desktop box, the KDE Device Notifier fails to recognize it. It will recognize every other USB stick. "fsck" reports no errors. I can mount it manually. I can read and write to it. The Device Notifier on my netbook recognizes it. So does another desktop box. By the way this started recently so I suspect some software update.
I have a probably kind of unusual problem - when a USB stick is connected to the PC and data is copied from/to that stick, I need to know how much data has been copied. The data itself if not interesting, just how many bytes. I unfortunately don't have access to the program that does the copying, and most of the data doesn't end up on any drive (it just gets read and discarded), so I can't simply check the size of a target directory or something like that. I have had a look at usbmon, but that seems to produce way too much data - the normal case would be around 10 gig of data being read, and I can't have that blown up by a factor of 10 and lying around on the hard drive

~/foo/ -> ~/settings/foo/
~/settings/foo/
~/settings/foo/bar
, how do I check that ~/foo/bar and ~/settings/foo/bar are the same file?

My test server is going well for the past 2 months. I have learned a lot from searching the net for how to's and forums on questions I have. My next task on the to-do list is enabling ssl on my mail server. I have the ssl setup with an automatic redirect from http to https.It is working fine with a minor issue.I have 2 domains and several subdomains on the server. Since I have enabled ssl, it seems for any of the domain/subdomain links I type in with a https://, it takes me to my mail server site. How can I have it set to only one secure link to my mail server?

The structure is simple enough(but there are also multiple folders), but there is one thing that makes wget choke up.Both of the links work, but they are both the same thing. I am trying to enable a touchscreen on our POS device IBM 4840, but it does not work for any reason. Here is what I have in xorg.conf.

I also tried to change ttyS4 to all available tty (0-7), because I am not sure which tty the touchscreen is connected to.
I'm running CentOS 5.5 with a hardware Areca controller (Raid 10). I initially installed a machine and rsynced the file system to a third machine; I'm then pulling in the file system to new machines and updating grub with a script to make it bootable.
I've done this before with other machines (no raid sets) but with these machines I'm running into errors code...
I recently installed Deluge 1.2.0 from the following PPA:[URL]I using this on two different Linux computers. One is running Linux Mint 8 and the other is running Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10. The first time on either computer when I enable WebUI in the Deluge GUI it works fine. However if I ever disable it in plugins section I am subsequently unable to re-enable it (doesn't appear in the side panel again). Rebooting or reinstalling Deluge seems to have no effect.Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

Access denied for user 'root'@'192.168.0.1' (using pasword: YES) which is ok, becouse 192.168.0.1 is not listed as a host from which MySQL server should accept connections.
I am a little confused, becouse i tell MySQL Workbench to connect using localhost, so server should (at least i think so) receive connection from 127.0.0.1
I think i had similar issue with PostgreSQL some time ago, but i just allowed connections from 192.168.0.1 then.

I am trying to install Ubuntu 10.10 from a USB flash memory stick. It works fine until around 95%, where I get the following warning/error:

I click OK and the installer seems to finish nicely, except the terminal throws several errors along these lines (see photo):

I tried also with 10.04 LTS, the difference being that the install warning appears two or three times instead of once. Some results from googling (Ubuntu Forums, Ubiquity bug) suggest unchecking the initial update options. I am going to try this but I'm not sure if I'll be able to get the boot loader right (there seemed to be problems with this).
I've bought an X10 Home Automation USB interface: the CM15.

am having to reinstall 10.10 and putting on it's own drive. Even though I can't get my system to boot properly, my old home directory is still intact on a different drive. How can I get the new install to point at the old home directory? I have read the tutorials, but it just isn't clicking for me.

Let's say I have a dedicated server with 2 static IPs each with an associated domain, let's call them www.site1.com and www.site2.com. Now, apache is running on it, I'd like to redirect anyone coming from site1.com to /home/site1/public_html and anyone coming from site2.com to /home/site2/public_html.In short, apache serving 2 entire roots depending on the accessed IP/domain. Whether the sites root are in the same parent folder, such as /home/site/site1_public_html and /home/site/site2_public_html or like above doesn't really matter, as long as it works.Additionally, do something similar with Postfix, so that I can have it running imap/smtp for foobar@site1.com and foobar@site2.com on the same server.At this moment, both apache and postfix are working, and we host only www.site1.com with the respective foobar@site1.com. But I'm not sure how to proceed or even if it's possible to achieve the above solution.

If you go though the ip address (http://94.23.251.209) the website loads fine, but if you go though the domain (athenagaming.com) it don't.I have registered the domain at domain.com. The nameservers I got from the host did not work, so I used a free dns site, to refer the domain to the ip address. The site I use is, http://freedns.afraid.org. I have signed up the domain, and added the nameservers i got from free dns to domain.com. But still it can't find the server though the domain, even though when I trace the domain it comes back all[URL]
