View 2 Replies View RelatedAs a relative noob with Linux (Ubuntu) I was enjoying learning stuff with Ubuntu Karmic - and everything I tried seemed to work even after my inexpert fiddling - which was nice! However, since installing Ubuntu Lucid I've spent loads of time trying to re-establish the share I had under Karmic whereby my Ubuntu PC's DVDROM was automatically available to my connected Win7 PC.
After a couple of days effort I've got to the point where I can access the CD or DVD mounted in Ubuntu, from Win7 but I cannot access the files within the CD or DVD (Windows Err Mssg: You Do Not Have Permission To Access.. I have noticed that since installing Lucid the mount point seems to be the name of the disk whereas under Karmic it was fixed as something like cdrom1. So if I edit smb.conf I can't specify the mount point as it depends on the disk name. Though to be honest I have no idea if this is anything to do with the problem!
To save what little hair I have left I'd be grateful if someone could point me in the right direction. Your mission, should you chose to accept it, is to have my Ubuntu PC's DVDROM available on my Win7 PC for read & write. PS I posted this several days ago on the Ubuntu forum but there's been no replies at all - I was wondering if the question is so daft that they think.
please anybody tell me how to check the availability of ethernet card in redhat 5.2 without using screw driver.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have installed SUSE SLES11.0 and when it boots up, the keyboard works, but the mouse does not. I am connected via a KVM, and the pointer does not move when I move the mouse.
I have run:
> init 3
> cat /dev/input/mice
> sax2 (after I got the mouse working)
But after the reboot, it no longer works within the gui.I have already searched for hours via google and tried many things to no avail
no entries exist in the /dev folder for hdc, cdrom, dvd, or any other drive or drive type than hda. The only other similar device is sg0 which doesn't work either. I have tried every variation of mount I can find with every available drive and drive type and nothing works, but this is the drive I installed FC14 with, and it installed perfectly (except for forgetting where it came from!!)Do I have to install a module or recompile the kernel just to get linux to recognize the drive it came from?
View 5 Replies View RelatedAnyone know how to remotely boot a server so that a network boot (F12) automatically starts? For example, in Solaris, I can type "reboot -- net -s" (hope i remembered the syntax - been a while! )to reboot my server and begin a network installation without having to be at the console. I am looking for the same in SLES.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI plugged in my external dvd-r (asus) via usb. It showed me some message on shell, that it has detected the cdrom(although its dvd rom as well but nevermind) and its of ASUS. But how do i know which dev it was associated with in /dev/? Since i had to test something, i plugged it out, and save the output of ls /dev/ > ~/result.txt
after plugging the dvd-rom, i compared the results and was able to find that it was associated with simple cdrom i.e. /dev/cdrom. I wanted to know that is there any command that will tell me which /dev/ file was associated with external dvdrom? i tried to see in the following result
1) df -h ( no results, just the already mounted partitions)
2) fdisk -l ( same as above)
3) dmesg | tail (shown almost the same result as was shown on shell at the time of plugging the dvd)
I wonder if there is an easy way to accomplish the following: I made a tool and part of it needs to be compiled. It would be easy if I can automate compilation for multiple platforms (x86 / x86_64 / RHEL / SLES / Ubuntu). Is there a way to do this automated on a single host? Or should I set up an os for each distro? Also is there a way to generate RPM and deb files also on the same host without having to edit the meta files each time a version changes?

I am having a problem getting my cd/dvdrom drives detected on my music a media player programs.
All of the media player programs including mplayer identify my devices as /dev/cdrom.
When I run the wodim --devices command this is what I get:
The /dev/cdrom reads like this /dev/cdrom -> sr0.
I can see my USB devices by
Code:
lspci

However, the speed I copied from one USB device to anther (both are USB 2.0 ) is around 4.4M/second, which seems to be very slow. I'm wondering if the USB driver is not powerful enough. By the way, I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 .

It's really critical, I have lots of software to install from DVDs and actually I am relying on a shared DVD-ROM drive from another machine and it's quite slowing me.
explain the way to check whethere a linux driver is installed or not in Fedora 9. i would like to see if "plpevtch" driver is loaded or not?
