Im setting up a local home server for my development. I have downloaded the wireless card drivers and burnt them to a DVD disc (as dont have any CDs) I have it in the DVD drive on the Server, and i dont know how to access the DVD via the console.

Using Ubuntu 9.10, GNOME. for sum reason can't play DVDs. i put the dvd in and nothing happens. i installed w32codecs and non-free-codecs.

I am having a problem getting my cd/dvdrom drives detected on my music a media player programs.
All of the media player programs including mplayer identify my devices as /dev/cdrom.
When I run the wodim --devices command this is what I get:
The /dev/cdrom reads like this /dev/cdrom -> sr0.
How do I check what driver my dvdrom is using in SLES11 the reason for this is I need to find that driver and compile it for SLES9.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have just installed Centos 5 on my HP Proliant ML110 G5 Server. At the install time it could not detect my DVD-ROM drive so I installed it using FTP hoping that it will make it work after installation but nope. My system is running but I cannot see ant DVD-ROM drive on my system.
It's really critical, I have lots of software to install from DVDs and actually I am relying on a shared DVD-ROM drive from another machine and it's quite slowing me.
I am using NFS to mount large LUNs from my SAN.have one lun already setup and configured. I am adding an additional partition from the same SAN but I am confused on the setup. I know the LUN is connecting to my NFS serve correctly because I see it listed in my/proc/scsi/scsi as an additional LUN. What I don't see is the drive being displayed in fdisk -l.I did notice one thing though, when I disable the host mapping from the SAN, I see it removed from the /proc/scsi/scsi file AND my fdisk information changes from /dev/sdb TO /dev/sdc (see changes below)

I ran 'os-prober' and it detects my CentOS install. I ran 'update-grub' and it updates grub, but doesn't add CentOS. I thought that should do it. What did I miss?

I have an i7 980x (hexacore) machine, installed with ubuntu 10.04. Has the stock 2.6.28-15-server #52-Ubuntu SMP kernel. When I check my /proc/cpuinfo, I can see only 8 CPUs. Was expecting to see 12. Is there any way to get all my 12 CPUs.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy server name, salamander, is not showing up in windows networking or in the networking items on linux computers. I have checked, double checked and tried several samba settings to see if I can make it work, but to no avail. Its shares can be accessed by any computer by going directly to 10.10.1.101, salamander's fixed IP.
My workstation, bear, shows up. I edited hosts to read: "10.10.1.101 salamander"
Any machine can access the share on salamander using the ip address, but not even Bear can connect directly with the computer name.
When I go to networks in Salamander, all it views is itself and a windows network. Inside the windows network is only salamander.
Bear shows up in the list of servers, and also has samba running. Eagle and Bearcub are also ubuntu without samba and do not show up in the list either. Understandably so.

I am using ubuntu 10.04.3 LTS and I have webmin 1.560 installed but when I look at Un-used Modules its showing system log is there and when I click on it I get this: The syslog configuration file /etc/syslog.conf was not found on your system. Maybe syslog is not installed, or a newer version like syslog-ng is in use, or the module configuration is incorrect.

As the title says the machine name is not showing up in the attached devices list on my router. Is there a file where I need to add the name? Or is this an issue with the router? The router finds all the other machine names on the network except my 3 servers.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded two servers to F10 from F9 and one of them is having an issue where package-cleanup is showing 13 packages which are incorrectly orphaned (no longer in the repo). Has anyone seen this before and know how to resolve this? Is it simply because the packages are listed in the repo as "fc10" vs "fc9"?

no entries exist in the /dev folder for hdc,cdrom,dvd, or any other drive or drive type than hda. The only other similar device is sg0 which doesn't work either. I have tried every variation of mount I can find with every available drive and drive type and nothing works, but this is the drive I installed FC14 with, and it installed perfectly (except for forgetting where it came from!!)Do I have to install a module or recompile the kernel just to get linux to recognize the drive it came from?

It showed me some message on shell, that it has detected the cdrom(although its dvd rom as well but nevermind) and its of ASUS. But how do i know which dev it was associated with in /dev/? Since i had to test something, i plugged it out, and save the output of ls /dev/ > ~/result.txt
after plugging the dvd-rom, i compared the results and was able to find that it was associated with simple cdrom i.e. /dev/cdrom. I wanted to know that is there any command that will tell me which /dev/ file was associated with external dvdrom? i tried to see in the following result
1) df -h ( no results, just the already mounted partitions)
2) fdisk -l ( same as above)
3) dmesg | tail (shown almost the same result as was shown on shell at the time of plugging the dvd)

Having one issue with evolution not showing html websites showing up in email like verizon sending a promo. I have gone to edit, preferences, mail preferences, html messages and have always load images from the internet chosen. I have also added sender to contacts. Even if I right click message and tell it to dload images it doesn't.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to connect a projector to my laptop (already running) and hit the fn+f7 (the designated button for switching screen), nothing happens. I see "no source found" on projector screen and my laptop screen works perfectly. Now if I restart the laptop with the projector connected, I see all the intial booting messages on the projector screen (not on my laptop), then the gnome login screen appears on both the projector screen and laptop (when the login screen appears on laptop it looks like it has lower resolution than my usual laptop resolution). But immediately after I log in, my laptop screen goes blank, and projector screen becomes the only active screen.
If I restart without the projector, again all normal operation on laptop screen is restored.
I feel like I am missing some very silly options. Any help is appreciated.
