View 1 RepliesI have a DELL Vostro 1500 and I have Debian Lenny running on it. I did get the wireless card BCM4312 working but after doing apt-get update followed by apt-get upgrade and after rebooting it stopped working. I am including the output from iwconfig, ifconfig and lsmod.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have noticed that ubuntu 9.10 (but also other distro and in general those that configure the network automatically at startup) crashed if my pc boot directly with a linux kernel at power on.This does not happen if the first boot is done with windows xp and then rebooting the pc and choosing the same linux kernel.Some distro (for example SysrescueCD) that does not configure the network at startup can work but also with these if I try to configure the network using the command ifconfig eth0 the system crashes.My network card is a SiS191 Ethernet and linux recognized it using sis190 module.I suppose that something happen during the first power on, some inizialization done with windows xp but does not done with linux in fact after a reboot made from windows xp without shutdown the pc, with Linux I can configure the network using ifconfig without crash.
Any ideas to solve this without have to boot always windows as first?

I have been using wamp on an XP box and now moved to a Linux box with Mepis 8.5 and latest Xampp.
I would like to know if there is a menu system which I can have on my desk which will start xampp and show the links to my sites?
Wamp has a similar one and a nice menu system with links to phpmyAdmin, MmySQL, Apache etc. It makes thi g so much easier.
I know to go to the server's IP then slash, but where would I look to see what goes after the slash.
I know where the samba share with all the files for the website points to, but when i put that full path after the slash i get nothing.
I'm trying to install Xampp on my virtual Fedora 14 desktop. When I open the terminal, sign in as administrator, and yum install Xampp I repeatedly get the message, "Child returned status 2, setting up Install Process, no package Xampp available" I get the same message after I download from a different mirror.

I have installed an old HP Scanner on my Fedora 11 system, and it works great. The scanner is connected through a SCSI, and it gets recognized at boot time if the scanner is ON. However, if the scanner is OFF, I need to turn ON the scanner and reboot the workstation for the SCSI devise to be recognized. Is there a way that I can rescan the SCSI devise without rebooting?

I'm trying to come up with a startup init script that will check to see if the system was shut down gracefully, or if it is rebooting from a poweroff or something similar?Anyone know of a way to check for this condition with the least amount of room for false positives or vice versa?My intial thought is just a startup script that will will check for a file on startup, and on a proper reboot/shutdown just touch the file. From that moment when reboots it returns the full symbol of fedora and then the screen becomes black with white letters. I couldn't login ever again. I am new in Fedora, i don't have a backup of my files and i cant't work. I think that this could be a command line or something like this. Is there any possibility to login even once to copy my files to another disk and then to setup Fedora again?

After rebooting, the grub menu is not displaying, only windows is booting, there is no sign of Ubuntu. Is there any way to restore the Ubuntu or I have to freshly install Ubuntu again ?

The problem is that on connecting the cam, it just works with the first program I start (skype, tokbox, messenger), and if I disconnect it or switch to another program, it stops to work and I have to restart my computer to make it work again.
Is there some good solution to reset the camera without rebooting to make it work again?

Anyway, I've gone through all the installation guidelines that I could find and was able to get ubuntu installed (very easy) along with the other two apps. I can successfully browse to the kaltura app from the local network but I cannot get to it from the outside world (cannot get to kaltura or the base XAMPP file)? Is there a configuration where I could have possibly only told apache to respond to localhost and local lan?

The problem am experiencing is that when I start it, it takes about 3 - 4 reboots before I get it to work without an automatic reboot.
I checked the dmesg command and the last part indicates the following:
