We want to print PDFs from a Linux server to a HP LaserJet 1320 PCL 6 which is attached to a Windows print server.
The command we use is
lp -d LaserJet sicl_rcpdebtnt_5.pdf
Problem is, the printout comes with the top 10% of the page not printed. i.e. the printing starts from about 10% of the PDF. The header and top information is not printed.
We tried the scaling option:
lp -o scaling=75 -d LaserJet sicl_rcpdebtnt_5.pdf
But that also has no effect. Only the characters become smaller but still the same problem is there.
What can we do to print the entire PDF in ONE page. When we open the PDF in Windows and print it we have to say Fit to printer margins for the printer's page scaling property.
How to set this in command line Linux?

I am using the latest version ubuntu desktop 10.04 LTS. I am trying to add printers attached to a Windows 7 system. I can see the Windows system but I can't see the attached printer. I log on as required after I change the domain to the appropriate workgroup that the Windows system belongs to. The log-in seems to be unsuccessful. Do I need to change the ubuntu desktop system to the same workgroup? If I do, please tell me where I can change?
I've just checked. I don't seem to be able to access any shares on any Windows systems on the network including the Windows system on the same computer where this ubuntu is installed. I installed ubuntu using wubi, so it is an application inside Windows system.

I am trying to install a printer, an Epson Lx-300 II. I go to System>Administration>Printing and select a New printer. No printer is automatically detected, so I select Epson Dot Matrix from the list (as the LX-300 II model is not listed). This is ok, and it prints however it prints weirds letters.

I want to move my windows XP image from my old PC's C: and put it onto my new PC, with Ubuntu 9.10 already on it. Will this procedure work?First I'll burn an iso image of the windows C: to a CD or DVD, using the Win XP computer. Then, I'll load a (live Ubuntu), from my thumb drive and boot into my new PC, and move the Ubuntu partition to another location, in order to create the partition needed to install a Windows OS. I know that Windows, God bless them, needs to be first on the HDD. This procedure will destroy the grub loader.Then rebooting should load correctly to the grub bootloader, right?

I have a problem with a bad entry in my system-config-printer on my notebook computer which I think is interfering with my ability to print. I run fedora 10 on several systems in my house. On one desktop, I have a printer hosted which I think I have successfully setup for wireless network sharing (an HP895) using IPP.My problem seems to be a bad entry in my system-config-printer on my notebook computer which seems to stall when I try to print from applications (Firefox for example.) on the notebook. If I open up "Printing", I have 3 printers listed... one of them is for when the printer is attached directly to the notebook, one of them is the working printer description "printer" and the 3d is the bad entry. If I click on the bad entry to try to delete it, I don't have that option, but If I try to look at the "properties" for that entry, system-config-printer stalls (as do other applications when the printing dialog box starts up, and I have to force them to shut down.)
I will attach some screenshots and a copy of my /etc/cups/printers.conf file.How do I get rid of this "bad entry" in the system-config-printers GUI ? It doesn't seem to exist in the printers.conf file.

I have a Centos 5.3 server with Samba file shares and a shared Samba printer. I am not running a domain.
I recently changed my windows desktop pc from an XP machine to a vista 64 machine... It has a different user name. Everything went pretty smoothly - and the and the vista machine found the smba printer - and even downloaded the driver from the samba server. he printer works OK - and the file shares are fine.
The only thing which is quite odd - is that the Printer Properties dialogue takes more than 30 seconds to come up - and every action you attempt with the dialogue takes a similar amount of time.
I will include below the essence of my smb.conf:

I have a Dell Precision 330 with (the latest) A09 BIOS and 1 TB SATA hard drive. There is a SATA-IDE converter between the SATA HD and the ATA133 cable. The OS was Window XP Professional SP3.
When adding RH Enterprise Linux 6 onto the computer, I created two additional partitions, one 400 GB for Linux's storage and a 10 GB swap space. I chose Window XP as the default OS.
After the installation, when the system started up, I can hit a key to have two optional OS: Window XP and Linux. If I chose Linux, the system would boot up. If I chose Window XP, the boot failed with a message that windowssystem32configsystem was missing or corrupted. I read some articles that the problem can be fixed in window's recovery console with fixboot. After entering the fixboot command and restarting the computer, Window XP still failed to boot with an error message that another file was missing.
I thought I might have made some mistakes in the installation procedure and it would be cleaner to reinstall both OS. So I tried to install Window XP Professional again. Unfortunately, after booting from Window XP CD and formating the MBR and copying the window XP files, the computer can not restart with the installed XP. Instead, the computer boot from Window XP's CD repeatedly. If I remove Window XP's CD, the computer simply can not boot at all.
I began to wonder whether RH's Enterprise Linux made some change on the MBR of the HD that Window XP can not format.

I installed CentOS 5.5 on my Compaq desktop PC connected to a LAN/Router, at the installation somehow the LAN connection was automatically determined and I was able to use the browser without doing anything.However when I added a print server to the LAN/Router I lost network connection from my Compaq PC running CentOS 5.5. Is there a way to rerun network manager installation to determine the new LAN settings (with a print server attached)

I have an old desktop that I'm trying to set up as a home backup/print server. Backup was trivial, but am having issues getting the printing to work. The printer is connected to the server running Ubuntu Server 9.10 (no gui). If I access the printer via http://hostname:631/printers/, I am able to print a test page, so I know the printer is working; however, I am having no luck from Windows. Windows can see the printer when browsed via hostname, but I am unable to connect. Windows says "Windows cannot connect to the printer" without indicating why.
From /etc/samba/smb.conf:
[global]
workgroup = WORKGROUP
dns proxy = no
security = user
[Code]...

I have a laptop running Ubuntu 10.04 and my basement computer running Windows 7. I want to be able to access files on on both computers from either. I also want to be able to print from my laptop to the printer attached to the basement computer. I finally got printing working. Then I tackled the filesharing. I finally get filesharing working and now, I can't get printing working again, even though I've gone back to the version of smb.conf that I had when I was able to print. So here is what I've got.
<->testparm
Testparm results.txt
<-> Printer State
When I look at my printer properties in Ubuntu I see the status: Idle - Unable to connect to CIFS host after (tried 3 times) Cups Error Log When I look at the Printer Error Log, I see: (partial) Printer log extract.txt I can ping the IP address of the windows box 192.168.0.5, but when I try to ping the name owner-pc it fails. This would lead me to beleive that the there is a name resolution problem.

Two users on both Ubuntu server and Windows 7. Both users admins on Windows. Used SWAT to set up Samba. Printer is local to Ubuntu server. User A can access both file share and printer on Ubuntu server from Windows. User B can access the file share but can only see the printer, not use it. Have looked everywhere I can think of to find out why one user has access and the other doesn't on both Windows side and Ubuntu side. As far as I can tell, they are set up the same. Can anyone provide some direction on what I should look at to find out what might be preventing User B from being authorized to use the printer on Ubuntu?
