I'm using VirtualBox on MacOS and I need to install version 10.0.4 of Ubuntu.The setup for VirtualBox only allows you to specify Linux > Ubuntu (64-bit).How can I install a particular version? I've been told that you can download it as a disk image and install it in VirtualBox somehow: can anyone point me at more details?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI currently use 192.168.1.10:85 to refer to my localhost ip address, and I setup port-based virtualhosts because this seems like the only feasible/practical way to view this from within Windows XP on my Debian's VirtualBox. Is anyone else aware of some advanced techniques in which I could view it by the ServerName instead? I would assume I have to hook it up to some sort of DNS server? I know I can also edit the hosts file in my Windows XP and point certain urls to my IP address, but it will always resolve to the primary default virtualhost.

When it finished, it popped up a huge error window that was too tall for the screen (and I couldn't copy the text). It wouldn't install. It said something about how the files in virtualBox 3.2.6 conflicted with those in 3.0.12.

VirtualBox is successfully installed on my openSUSE 11.2 and the guest OS is Win XP. I am looking for a way to acomplish two things from the guest OS:-use USB -use internet connection
On the first one, I've run into a howto for openSUSE 11.2 that says usb access for guest OSes in VBox is supported only in the binary (non-free) version. Since I am running the free one, does that mean I am out of luck on usb matter?
On the second one, I am puzzled as well. WinXP image is already installed and I tried to configure its networking via the "settings" section in VBox which gives me several options out of which none is for setting up IP's. How do I get internet connection that openSUSE host already has to share it with the guest OS within VBox?

how can i exclude a specific grub entry - in my case the current kernel 2.6.35-25 - so only previous kernels OR future kernels from the next updates will have a chance to boot?

As bugs happen in software development, I sometimes want to downgrade to the previous release, so force the installation of a specific version of the package.I tried the allow-downgrade plugin, but so far no luck. Neither yum update nor yum install seem to work with allow-downgrade. (It does not seem to do anything?). Does anyone have a working example for yum --allow-downgrade?

1) Show current yum version

What I ended up doing was spending a few hours getting it to compile, then find out everything didn't work the way I thought it did. I was under the impression that after I ran "sudo make install" I was "upgrading", when in reality I'm just installing a seperate version alongside the old one. Apparently I have to keep the old version so every program that was compiled with it will continue to work, so how do I:
1) Force a program to use a specific version of GTK when compiling.
2) Find where my version of GTK installed to.

I am using Scientific Linux 5.5 and yum for managing the apps.The problem is that I need, for example ruby >= 1.8.7, but the package for ruby that is the official repositories for SL 5.5 is 1.8.5 and therefore yum says it's up to date.
There are other repositories for SL 6.0 that have ruby-1.8.7. Initially I ignored the fact that they are not for 5.5 and tried to install it manually with rpm. But there was an increasing number of data dependencies for the packages so I gave up. What can I do to avoid this? I suppose installing packages for newer OS version should be ok and they will be compatible with other older libs. But do you really install packages in this manner?
Is it possible to just roll back the version of Mesa on my install to an earlier version...I think this is the key to getting my game to work.

I don't see any errors but the file is not installed (I think) because when I go to synaptic they are not there. And trying to proceed with the ns2 installation results in error since I don't have the gcc3.3
