View 7 Replies View RelatedAt work we have a Sybase Adaptiver Server 9.0 database running, it has to stay there for now, and we are developing a web application that will connect to it using PHP.I was already able to make it work using ODBC on Windows and using odbc_connect on PHP.But now we are moving to Ubuntu, and we are trying to get it to work on it.I already have Apache2 and PHP5 up and running.There are two ways (I can think of) we can do this, one is using ODBC and then use "odbc_connect" and the other is making "sybase_connect" work on PHP. Being the latter probably the best one since you wouldn't have ODBC as an intermediary.
Either way, as long as it works I'm happy. ODBC would be fine to meet our requirements for now.I already have ODBC Data Source Administrator but no idea how to create/include/add the Sybase driver.We also tried setting freetds up, but that didn't work either, we might be missing something.
I had sybase server running on my desktop but after the upgrade it does not seam to start properly. tried to restart the server many times but does not seam to help

I need to reconfigure my php to have Sybase support. However, I am not sure which library to use. I'll try freetds but I am not sure if it will work. I used it before with Microsoft MSSQL.

I'm attempting to get freetds and sybase up and running on my centos server, mainly for nagios - MSSQL checks. I've installed freetds freetds-devel ok but am having issues getting SYBASE installed. I've had a go via cpan but get a failure on the sybase environment variable. I've set it to /etc where the conf file is located as well as trying /urr/lib64 for the tds libs, but no joy. Has anyone had much luck with this on centos?

basically there is a SYBASE ASE installation on the server, which a tomcat based website references.They want the service to stop once a certain row limit is reached in the table.
I know i have to do a count statement on the sybase table from ISQL.But how can i create the action "service website stop" once the count value reaches 4000 ?
I am trying to do a 'light' install of Ubuntu 10.04 using the alternate install CD. Here is how i am planning to do it:
1. Perform a console only installation(Standard system only on d-i tasksel)
2. Install gnome-core
3. Then install the packages i need using apt.
1. Would such an installation lead have any significant performance(RAM usage) advantage over a full fledged installation?
2. Is there a way i could install gnome-core from the installation CD instead of downloading them from the repository?
3. Would installing just gnome-core mean that synaptic & update-manager wouldn't be available? i am hoping that it wouldn't be the case I checked their dependencies from packages.ubuntu.com, it doesn't look like they need gnome-desktop-environment to be installed first.
4. Would such an install have any more device driver related issues (eg.display drivers) than a regular install?

I need to somehow do a yum installation (or equivalent of) on a system that is offline with no access to the internet. (I do have access to another Linux system that has internet access, but the Linux installations on both systems have different packages installed and enabled.)
Let's say the command to enter is 'yum install pkg1 pkg2 pkg3' (the documentation for some applications I need indicate the installation instructions this way, and not as the actual RPMs I need). Is there a way for me to run that on my offline system?
e.g. one way I can think of is to run that command on the online system, somehow if possible take note of what RPMs get installed, then transfer them to the offline system via USB and install all the RPMs via rpm command.
The problem with my above idea is that the two systems have different packages enabled, so even if yum on the online system shows a few dependencies being downloaded, I could run download and install all these RPMs and their dependencies on the offline system only to find several more missing dependencies, and dependencies of those dependencies.
I've got an ASUS eee1005 that I'm trying to load eeebuntu -- I've read good things about it! However, I managed to get it (partially) installed using only unetbootin and the eeebuntu-nbr iso. Luckily I've got other working laptops in the house, or I'd be stuck because now I've got a partially installed distro that isn't allowing me usage of my wireless. Basically, what I'd like to do is be able to go back to the install process and load all the packages I want, which, hopefully, will give me NetworkManager so that I can finally connect. I can boot to the thumbdrive (8gig, btw) but I don't think I've got the right files on it to do the install. Here's what appears on the thumbdrive:

I would think that with these files on the thumbdrive, it could find its way into the install process. Apparently not. I've read most, if not all of the 'install from USB' threads and how-to's, and it's still not working right - Now, having a partially installed distro (with GUI that's not GNOME, or KDE. . ?) Are there any options I can use to pickup where the install left off and start adding packages? Or should I just scrap it and re-install?
I just installed win 7 and now can't install fedira 13 on the partition that i made for it on the same drive. The problem is that after installation of win 7 i lost the ability to boot form cd. In bios i still have cd set up to boot first and drive second, but win 7 did something that overrides bios set up. I even tried Esc for boot menu, then i select to boot form cd, but it still boots in windows. What can I do to fix this?

I have downloaded a tar.gz program how is it installed.
I find with windows using dos programing it is easy navigating between files and directories, gw basic etc.
With terminal you type in cd .. it takes you back to the home folder then if you type cd .. again it takes you back to the desktop, if you repeat the same sequence again cd .. terminal just returns with desktop, terminal just appears to work once and thats what makes it hard understanding the programing of terminal.
I find the only way around it is by turning terminal of and restarting it.
I have installed Ubuntu 9.04 in my laptop, but there is no sound. Can someone give some suggestion about how to fix it? I am a new user.

(this is asked when detecting disk on installation) I put the drivers onto a USB (MSDOS boot diskette) mounted it by pressing ALT+F2 to get a terminal during the installation. then copied the files from the USB to /tmp When I try and run the driver from /tmp i get.

I have been using Ubuntu for several months and am "getting to grips" with it. However, recently I needed to renew my hdd. I used recovery disks and back-ups of my "data" - all went well and Vista runs fine and I can access my "stuff". But when I install Ubuntu (Wubi) using a pendrive OR a cd - Ubuntu seems to install OK. But after I reboot my pc and get the option to select an OS - Vista OR Ubuntu - I cannot move the highlighted option with the arrow keys on my keyboard so it defaults (after 20 seconds) to Vista every time? I would like to try the newer (10.10) Ubuntu Release.
