View 1 Replies View RelatedSubject says it all, how do I add midnight commander to xwmconfig as a selection?
I have not downloaded mc yet.
MC remembers which panel (left or right) had the focus when closing. The next time MC opens that panel receives the focus. Is there a way to disable that option where the focus is always the left panel? There is a Command option (shortcut Ctrl-u) to swap the panels. I prefer MC simply start with the focus on the left panel.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am using Midnight Commander, namely this package:mc-4.7.5.2-1.fc15.x86_64I have noticed it always returns me to the directory it was started in, no matter what is told in its manual. Are there simple means to override this behavior and quit it in the current directory (as expected when quit via F10)?
View 9 Replies View RelatedThis problem has been bugging me since KDE4 starting shipping. In konsole, if you use the default black on white profile, and you start Midnight Commander, the color of the MC screen is the default blue color it has always been. However, if you change to the green on black profile, which is the one that I prefer, and you start MC, the blue changes to some unreadable light robin egg blue which is horrid.
I'm making a huge assumption here, but it looks like something is off with the green on black profile in Konsole. Try it yourself and you will see what I mean. This only started with KDE4, but it still persists through every version to current.
I prefer to use the built-in editor that came with mc, which can be accessed with 'mc -e', however, I find when using midnight commander, if I type 'F4', then I'm presented with nano, which isn't what I want.

Since I began using F11, Midnight Commander takes a life to start. Previous versions of Fedora didn't give me any problem. I know many of you don't use it, but for those who needs MC, anyone is having the same trouble? F11 x86_64.

After upgrading to Lucid, MC looks ugly - like some colors are missed. Its very difficult to work in MC now - directories and files have same color for example. [fantomas@fantomas-laptop]:-boot.png. Also, applying different themes (skins) changes bottom bar (with menu: F1 F2 etc) button colors only, not affecting colors of panels. Install 4.7.3 build of MC from here: [URL]...

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen running MC in xterm or gnome-terminal, it doesn't seem to allow the use of Ctrl-enter and Ctr-shift-enter to copy marked files to the command line.
Does anyone know of another way to cause this to happen or a way to enable it under xterm/gnome-term?
Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx
Tux Commander 0.6.7.0-dev
When I use the default graphical file manger in Ubuntu, holding down the shift key and pressing the up or down arrow keys will select multiple files. This doesn't happen in Tux Commander or Gnome Commander. I tried looking through the preferences of each application and googling on my question. No dice. Is there anything I can do to get this functionality?
I used Total Commander and connected FTP to write website. Today I accidently deleted some files. How to recover them?Recover using Total Commander or log in Putty? If using Putty, what commands are used to recover?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just ordered a new desktop computer online, with an i3 processor and a nVidia GeForece graphic card. Its going to take a few days to ship so I thought I would research and find the best distro to install on that hardware. I've been using fedora for years on my laptop and I've never had a problem but now with the i3 I dont know which distro would be best to install.

I have two distros and windows installed. I only want one distro (I have decided on Ubuntu) and windows. But, the other distro, the one that I want to eradicate is the last one installed and it is its GRUB in the MBR.
I know what happens from experience if I just delete that partition with a liveCD - GRUB won't boot anything on reboot.
What do I need to do from within Ubuntu or the other Linux before deleting the partition of the second distro so that I have a working GRUB when I reboot ?
I loaded a distro (which does not seem relevant) onto my laptop and used it for a while. Applications did whatever they do creating and saving files. I know that I have images and documents and videos and music and such on the laptop among other non-distro data files. Is there a simple (straightforward) way to identify which files on disk are NOT part of the installed distro? I know how to use find. I know that find lets me locate files based on some date-time-stamp. I know, too, that I can use any selected file as a benchmark date-time instead of some specific command line string.
For example:
Code:
Find files whose modification date is before (or after) the date(s) associated with the file /path/foo.bar.
Is there any one file that I could use to peg the distro install date? Can I get that date from somewhere else like a file system details?

Like for instance, if I have Ubuntu Lucid Lynx installed with XFCE, and it has an applications made for XFCE. will the applications also work on say some other distro like, Wolvix, that is an XFCE-based distro~????
What I am trying to say is: Do applications that are made for XFCE, work on ANY distro that has XFCE installed?

I have the opportunity to set up our local public library with a linux server. The primary need is for the server to land wifi users to a hotspot splash screen where they will accept terms of use and indicate what town they are from by checking a box or selecting from a dropdown menu. Users of terminals in the library would also have to indicate what town they are from. Things such as content filtering may come later. What distro would be recommended for this? Ease of use and configuration is important. They basically want to track use of the internet.
