I run the ping command using system() in C. It start pinging the desired destination but when I close my application it continues to ping. Is there any solution that as soon as I close my application it also stops pinging. Any change required in my C code?
View 2 RepliesI am using an virtual machine. where I need to ping from one machine to another. earlier I was able to ping. But after going to google.com once, I cannot ping back to this machine.
But if I gave ping -I eth1 <IP> then I can ping.
I cannot install any package, so tell me solution which includes not installing any package.
I recently noticed my RAM problem. When I start any application it increases RAM usage but even after I close it RAM usage doesn't go down. Instead when I restart that application RAM usage goes up again. Using ubuntu 10.10
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've made custom launchers for programs that can only run in terminal. They open fine within the Terminal window, but it closes right after the program is finished, before I can read the report.
Is there a way to keep the Terminal window open, using launchers? I don't want to manually type the commands after opening a Terminal.
I've wondered for years how it works and how I can change it. For example, opening a document with vim, or opening a man page, and then exiting out of it will sometimes (depending on the distro) clear the screen and leave your prompt at the very top. other times, it leaves the contents of whatever you had open on-screen and your prompt is at the bottom.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI am trying to set up the IRCD-IRC2 server to allow local chat between users connected to my Ubuntu server through SSH. I have port forwarding all set up to the point when I open port 6667 on the localhost it immediately comes back with":My.Irc.Com 020 * lease wait while we process your connection." Sounds promising. But it's not. It hangs for over a minute, then comes back with "ERROR :Closing Link: [unknown@127.0.0.1] (Ping timeout)" and closes the connection.
I don't want IRC2 to connect to any other servers. I just want it to facilitate chat between other users logged in through SSH as I said. Here is my ircd.conf file

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an embedded server running Ubuntu which is on a network with a lot of wireless AP's. The AP's doesn't support SNMP or anything else, so I monitor if they are up or down by simply pinging them continuously.
My question is if there is anything I could install on the server that could provide me with a webpage where I could see the ping time to the AP's? So it just shows a list of the IP's I have told it to ping, and what their latest response time is. This is what I basically need, but if it were more advanced than that, and could give warnings if ping time were to high etc.

I am going to compile and install my first linux application from the command line. The program is the port scanner program NMAP, and I am looking at the documentation to learn how to do it. I saw this thread [URL], and I just want to make sure I understand what it is I'm doing.

Here I am calling the bzip2 program to work with a specified file. look for the file nmap-5.35DC1.tar.bz2 in the current diretory (-cd) and to pipe (redirect) something, this is where I get lost, I think. And I know what x & v mean but not f, or what that has to do with the previous commands.

Chage to the named directory.

I assume this is a command?

not sure what the difference is between this and the above.
Consider that I am building my application in Linux shell using make command but somehow the build fails. Is there any way I can find out that the build has failed (of course looking at shell for error messages will do the job for me but I don't want that). Is there any flag make or shell will set/reset if such failure occurs ?

I am working behind a http proxy (172.30.x.x:3128). I have configured it in my terminal. All the applications such as wget,lynx firefox etc. are working correctly.However all dns utilities like nslookup, host and even ping too are not working.Following is output of host command:

To connect to net I have to first run dhclient3(learnt from this forum!).It gives me my ip but where is dns address sent I don't have and idea.
When I execute a command (ping or telnet or ssh) on ip 192.168.0.20 it is ok.
If I execute the same command on
ip 192.168.0.020, it looks for
ip 192.168.0.18 instead of
ip 192.168.0.20
And it's the same for others ip if I put a 0 ahead last byte.

I have 2 windows PC and a linux as router in the linux there are 2 NIC eth0 and eth1. I created DHCP on eth0 and manually configured on eth1. My eth0 gateway was 192.168.26.253 and my eth1 was 192.168.22.253. I needed to ping the 192.168.26.x WinPC1 to WinPC2. What command I will use on linux so that the WinPC1 can ping to WinPC2.

I know that it can be done with a loop and a shell script. Something like this

Now, my first issue is that I need to be able to see results real-time as well.
Is there a way one can print to BOTH a screen and output? If one uses the ">>" command, it is essentially sending everything to the file. Running another ping command in parallel is not an option.
Several times now my PC with Ubuntu 10.04 LTS installed wont close down. I click on all the appropriate buttons but the system doesn't shut down. I have to press the on / off button on the computer to end my session.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have been using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS for several months and recently the system has stopped closing down cleanly. It starts okay and runs just fine, but when I come to closing down it doesn't do anything after I've clicked on the shut down button. The same happens with the restart button. I have been closing the system by pressing the power button on the front of my tower. I have no idea as to why it won't close ... I haven't installed any extra software, so I guess it's a system problem. Closing down by pressing the power button cannot be doing the OS any good, so I could do with a fix ASAP on this one.

I can run this thing from within its directory... but I do not like messing within the directories of my applications, this is why I sent this to /usr/local, and placed a calling script in /usr/local/bin...
At my current job it is my responsibility to update all the servers, as well as some of the workstations. Its an easy enough job, I just remote in to each "machine", and use Synaptic to update. Well, we have a package that was created here "key-build-tools-g6" and for some reason, after I update and go to close Synaptic, it says "There are still marked changes that have not yet been applied. They will be lost if you choose to quit 'Synaptic'". If I cancel and "Apply Updates" then look at the "Details" it says "key-build-tools-g6 (version 18) will be upgraded to version 18". I go ahead and update it again, it downloads, and installs, but then when I go to exit... Same thing.

Sometimes its in the middle of a video, I have no answer for whats causing this. I have the 64bit Square Flash installed at this time through the sevenmachines PPA.
