General :: When Try To Upload Or Download Get An Ftp Critical Error Message
Dec 30, 2010I have two questions.
1- The vfstpd is running on the Centos server. The server is in the same home network. The SeLinux and firewall are disabled. I can use Filzilla from a Windows PC from another computer and connect and see directory listing. There is a user names adminftp and he is a memeber of root group. When I try to upload or download I get an ftp critical error message.
2- How can I install Adobe Acrobat Reader, Flash Player and Adobe Shockwave on this Linux box?

Nov 1, 2010I have wordpress server running on my machine and I have SELinux enabled for enforcing/targeted. I am unable to insert images, music, etc from the add new post field on the wordpress dashboard. I receive the following error:
image.jpg has failed to upload due to an error The uploaded file could not be moved to /var/www/html/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2010/10. When I disable SELinux completely, it works fine. Does anyone know what Boolean I need to check to resolve this issue?

Ubuntu Servers :: 10.04 No Upload Folder In /tmp With Php Upload Script?
Jun 13, 2010have setup a LAMP server with ubuntu 10.04 server edition x86 for my study in VMware Workstation 7.1 For a assignment I had to make a php script that would load a file up to the server and set the name in a mysql database. According to the book the server should set the image in a cryptic folder in the /tmp/ folder.
This isn't working and i also try'd locate and find to find the image i uploaded. I checked the php.ini and file uploads were on but no folder so i set that one to /tmp/ but still no images. Can anyone help me with enabling this function?

Jun 1, 2011I have got centos 5.3 running on my system. I have installed vsftpd and created a separate folder to upload files (upload folder created in/var/ftp/pub). From my client end I can download ftp files but when I try to upload files from my client I get a error message 550: permission denied. The upload folder has full permission ie 777. Checked the ftp config file everything looks ok.

Ubuntu Servers :: Error Occurs When We Use Move Upload File, To The New Directory Within Our PHP App
Oct 7, 2010We are running into issues with a File Upload script written in PHP. We can upload files without issues except with .*x files (such as .docx) We are getting permission denied errors. The error occurs when we use move upload file, to the new directory within our PHP app. If we give the uploads folder 777 access, it works fine without error. I dont like that. So I set it to 775 (Also dont like this), but it didnt work until I gave group ownership to www-data (I really dont like this)
This issue only happens on our production server, which is Ubuntu 9.04, running Apache2.2 and PHP5 will all the newest updates. We also have all MIME's configured, and are able to download the file from Apache without error. The first thing we noticed before the file permissions error, was that the MIME type changed to .zip when we used mime content type function. But yet using the FILES array, it still showed .docx.

Jan 7, 2010I have proftpd @ Ubuntu 9.04 server. It authenticates users via Auth file, e.g. those are "FTP only" users, not real linux users. Each of them has assigned home dir in the same auth file. They also get Chrooted into it, e.g. default dir is ~ in proftpd.conf They can connect and download files successfully, however, they cannot upload anything or create directory: 550 permission denied error.
When I login via ssh and change user to proftpd user, I can create directories in that particular place, so I guess it's not Linux permissions problem? Or is it? /var/log/daemon.log is the place where proftpd stores its logs, but I cannot find anything relevant there

I am running a lamp server and i installed proftp. i created users and groups. i tested my server and its working fine. but now when im working on dreamweaver to connect to my ftp... It connects fine i can download my files from the site but when i edit them and try to "put" them back. i get an error:

1. Add group ftp-users
# /usr/sbin/groupadd ftp-users
2. User test1 has been added to the group of ftp-users with /home/ftp-docs as home directory
# /usr/sbin/usermod -g ftp-users -d /home/ftp-docs test1
3. Ownership and permission of /home/ftp-docs has been changed to provide read/write access to user test1 and group ftp-users
# chown test1.ftp-users /home/ftp-docs
# chmod 770 /home/ftp-docs
But My intention is for the user who login with test1 user privileges, he should not be able to browse any other directories say /, /var /etc etc. Also he should not be able to change to any other directory. How can I accomplish this ?

Mar 10, 2011I have CENTOS server with suPHP installed. The user (UID) and group (GID) are different for PHP files. But when I upload any file using FTP, it makes user:user and suphp fails to parse it. I then change the ownership (using ssh) as user:group for the php file and it works.

When I log into my myspace account, and I choose to upload photos and I click browse, it links me to my desktop but when I open up my photo album, all I get is an empty box. May 23, 2011I want to upload files from my computer to an FTP site and I don't want to upload files that are already on the server. So I need a tool that finds out which local files that are different from the ones on the server, or that don't exists on the server.
Some requirements:
I'm using a cheap provider that does not support rsync or ssh, so I can only use FTP. I generate the files before uploading them, so comparing timestamps is meaningless. I've tried lftp with the mirror command. It's slow (I think it uploads all the files). I upload the files from different computers, so I can't use sitecopy, which uses a local database to keep track of which files are on the server. I'd like to be able to upload all changed files with one command. Preferably no GUI application. And it needs to run in Ubuntu.
I was thinking about creating a tool similar to sitecopy, but which stores checksums of all the files on the FTP server on the server itself. But then I thought that there may already be such a tool.

Jul 8, 2011As soon as I get the hang of remastering, I am planning to remaster my distro (I have MEPIS 8 now, but will switch to either 9 or 11) to do two things: install KDE Trinity (I don't like KDE 4), and remove all extraneous software: games, "toys," and specialized programs that it was peculiar to include on the liveCD in the first place (such as jbidwatcher, a program for monitoring eBay bids). Oh, and I'll try to make it fit into one CD (not one DVD). Since I don't like downloading DVD-sized distros in the first place ( DVDs cost more!), I might download the latest antiX MEPIS and modify it to my liking.
If I successfully remaster a new version of MEPIS to my specifications, I might as well try to share it online in case anyone would want it. Where would I upload a Linux distro to share it?
