Dec 21, 2010I've already gotten into the .mozilla folder and found the profiles.ini file. My windows XP system has it's Documents and Settings folder on a seperate drive (D:Documents and settings) And I've located the profile (application datamozillafirefoxprofiles) Now all I need to do is put the path into the profiles.ini file in the .mozilla folder in Ubuntu. The problem is I don't know exactly how to format it.

Jun 13, 2010have setup a LAMP server with ubuntu 10.04 server edition x86 for my study in VMware Workstation 7.1 For a assignment I had to make a php script that would load a file up to the server and set the name in a mysql database. According to the book the server should set the image in a cryptic folder in the /tmp/ folder.
This isn't working and i also try'd locate and find to find the image i uploaded. I checked the php.ini and file uploads were on but no folder so i set that one to /tmp/ but still no images. Can anyone help me with enabling this function?

Jul 12, 2011I've been handed the role of looking after my company ftp server which is running redhat. I've logged on as root & have somehow lost all of the menu items from the grey toolbar. All i now have on the desktop are the disk & partition icons. I haven't changed / added anything, just logged on to the box. The only way i can log out or reboot is to press in the server power button which cannot be right ? Is there anyway of making the menu options visible so that i can at least familiarise myself with the O/S ?

1. Add group ftp-users
# /usr/sbin/groupadd ftp-users
2. User test1 has been added to the group of ftp-users with /home/ftp-docs as home directory
# /usr/sbin/usermod -g ftp-users -d /home/ftp-docs test1
3. Ownership and permission of /home/ftp-docs has been changed to provide read/write access to user test1 and group ftp-users
# chown test1.ftp-users /home/ftp-docs
# chmod 770 /home/ftp-docs
But My intention is for the user who login with test1 user privileges, he should not be able to browse any other directories say /, /var /etc etc. Also he should not be able to change to any other directory. How can I accomplish this ?

May 25, 2011I added a directory to the $PATH variable in /etc/profile. This works for my user account but not for root. It's easy to add it to my /root/.bashrc but I would like to understand whats's wrong. It's a widely unmodified Debian 6 so I think my changes should do the trick.
Here is what my /etc/profile looks like:

# and Bourne compatible shells (bash(1), ksh(1), ash(1), ...).
