I am in the process of learning Mint, but need help with a missing Menu and task bar. I have obviously deleted something, but have no idea what.Terminal is a problem, as it does not appear correctly but enlarged and incomplete.I do have a dock, with a number of icons and an application icon.
View 2 RepliesFirst off late me state that i know nothing about ubuntu and i am try to help someone(my father) who knows even less lol. Last night the 13yr old little girl got on his computer and was playing around now the Task/Menu bar is gone and he doesnt know how to get it back.... or do anything else without it. ive told him that this is probably just a simple setting but im not there to play with his computer to figure ubuntu out for him thus im forced to seek wisdom here. I need idoit lvl instructions on how to reenable this bar can anyone help?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI managed to install Mint 9 on a Windows 7 system. It works except for one thing: at the Menu options, Windows 7 is listed at the bottom, Mint 9 at the top. I can log into Mint 9 but all keys are frozen. When I boot with Super Grub and other discs, I get the same result. All keys are frozen.Is there a way to edit my boot menu so that I can get dual boot.I know I can use Win. 7 disc, repair, then re-install Windows' mbr, but that would give me back my Win. 7 but no Mint 9. (By the way, I cannot install Ubuntu 10.4 or any other Linux; ;so far it works only with Mint 9)

I did what was told in another thread on missing task bars. I managed to get them all back except on Firefox. I tried the preferences, double clicking up there, right clicking.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am running 10.04 and have recently had an issue where a powercut shut my computer down unexpectedly. Since this all the options from the network/connection part of my taskbar have been removed.I have run the OS from a boot disk and the same problem occurs. I have updated and re-added the mobile broadband but still nothing appears and as yet i have been unable to connect to the internet again since the powercut.am still learning everything (very slowly) so i apologise if this has been previously solved but i can't seem to find it on the forums.

When I killed it, it didn't release the DVB-T stick and when I launched Kaffeine, it told me that there was no device available. I re-booted rather than trying to figure out where the lock file was or whatever the problem might have been. Now, when I boot into my desktop, I am missing the menu bar and the task bar. Also, under Applications -> Settings -> XFCE Settings Manager, the Panel icon doesn't launch any settings dialog when clicked. How can I get my menu bar and task bar back?

I liked having it there- I can access that folder through "home folder" but it was nice having it where I could get to it with just one click. How can I get it back? Only the bar at the bottom is still there, and I can't start any applications, not even a terminal. No icons, no background, no anything (I got Firefox running by clicking on a link in the About KDE menu item in the task manager, which i started with ctrl-alt-del)
During the update the system just restarted, and afterwards it was like that.
How do I get it to work again?
I have my task list in evolution (mainly so it can sync with my phone and online task list) but I always forget to look at the task list. Is there an application or plugin which periodically displays the contents of the tasklist or even better, it briefly displays the most urgent/important tasks when I login? Or anything else which automatically displays the most important tasks. Currently I have to open the task list and look at them (which I usually forget). I do not mean some kind of alarm when the task is due but more a daily reminder of what to do.

Also in that corner was the program Parcellite that I used all the time. I accidentally deleted them both and now cannot get them back. I can't even start Parcellite from the menu and when i try to start it from the terminal this is what I get:

Originally I was using Mint's bootloader, but I'm ditching Mint soon for another OS so I'm migrating to Fedora's bootloader to make the transition easier. For a while I couldn't get Mint to appear on Fedora's Grub menu, but during that time I could still access the internet on Fedora. However, once I successfully added Mint to Fedora's grub menu, the wireless suddenly stopped working on Fedora (though it still works on Mint.) I can connect to the network on Fedora but it gives me the awesome "host does not exist" message when I try to ping anything. Any insight as to why this might have happened after I managed to successfully boot Mint from the Fedora boot menu?

The individual window "buttons" themselves keep changing size - flashing even, and the space between them also changes. It is driving me nuts! I've read some threads as to how to do this and came to know that we need to skip installation of LILO in slackware installation and an entry for slackware in the menu.lst file of grub.
