After upgrading from 10.10 to 11.04 all of a sudden, the task manager or task bar, keeps changing length. The individual window "buttons" themselves keep changing size - flashing even, and the space between them also changes. It is driving me nuts! The little system tray(?) icons no longer appear in the system tray, but all stacked on top of each other in the top left corner.

When I do PrintScreen KSnapShot task appears in the list and makes all task to rearrange. The resulting screenshot contains already fixed view.

View 2 Replies View Relatedi know that emerald changes the window borders. how exactly do i go about changing the scroll bar, task bar, etc. i know metacity generally controls this but my fusion icon is set to compiz by default and when i switch it to metacity emerald no longer works. should i be looking for compiz themes instead of metacity themes to change my task bar and scroll bar and if so how do i install them?
View 2 Replies View RelatedJust upgraded to Lubuntu 11.04. Holy mother of God, the default theme is an atrocity. It looks like somebody puked blue on my desktop. I changed the theme but cant figure out how to change the color of the task bar on the bottom of the screen.
(On a completely unrelated note, Firefox now thinks Im British and wants to change color to colour....weird.)
I have my task list in evolution (mainly so it can sync with my phone and online task list) but I always forget to look at the task list. Is there an application or plugin which periodically displays the contents of the tasklist or even better, it briefly displays the most urgent/important tasks when I login? Or anything else which automatically displays the most important tasks. Currently I have to open the task list and look at them (which I usually forget). I do not mean some kind of alarm when the task is due but more a daily reminder of what to do.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI installed Ubuntu 9.10 with VMware Workstation 6.5.0. The install went fine and I ran the updates and everything was working great. Then I decided to change the resolution to something a little larger that was actually workable and after a restart my taskbars were all messed up. I deleted that machine and then opened up the backup. I changed the resolution again and after a restart, same result. I've tried it with multiple resolutions with different aspect ratios all with the same results. I've included a link below with a screen shot of the desktop so you can see what it's doing. Now, it's not unusable but distracting to me nonetheless.

When I go to open up the file manager, nothing comes up. Even when I try nautilus or sudo nautilus nothing happens. I read on another forum to use gconf-editor and nothing fixed it. What do I do? 2.) I would like to access my files from the Windows partition, but it doesn't show up under "system." Is it for some reason impossible to access Windows files?
3.) My computer's performance has dipped substantially in the last two days. I am trying to figure out why this is, if there is a task manager or the like or a performance diagnosis tool. Also, my computer does not have an anti-virus program, that might also be the cause of the poor system performance.
I am running Slackware -current and am using kde as my desktop environment. I'm not sure if this is a feature that I turned on my accident or a bug but its really annoying. When I start any program on the computer and it goes into the Task manager bar. If I click the bar to maximize the program or window it goes to the kde log on window. I am running KDE version 4.5.4.

I had been using the graphical version of the app because it was easier and faster for me to deal with. I know that there is a command line solution for this, but I also know it involves having to know the task number of the program I want to kill (I've got a game that I love to play, but only closes cleanly about 10% of the time). I've posted a couple of screen shots to show the errors... View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to key information into an OpenOffice spreadsheet that is being viewed in another application, typically Firefox. Both windows are sized such that they fit on the screen at the same time. Prior to a week or so ago, this was very straight forward. Now when I click on an app in the Task Manager after opening OpenOffice, other open apps are minimized - sometimes all of them, sometimes just the most recent. I usually have Dolphin, a terminal window, Firefox, OpenOffice and sometimes a spreadsheet open. A friend who is far more familiar with Linux than I, suggested that the memory manager may have gotten confused and that logging out should clear this up. I tried that to no avail, as well as rebooting. I've also looked through the options in each of the apps that I've got open to see if there's any obvious user options that might be affecting this. I've found nothing.

After 3 reboots on the new xbuntu lost the task bars and I cant find the way to put it back. Gives me extra screen space but I cant see notifications.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I upgraded to 11.04, Ubuntu classic works fine. However, when I log into the Unity Ubuntu, all that shows up is the background, and Desktop Items. No task bar at the top (containing the time, shutdown etc) or side panel bar, with the shortcut items. Now, while I was using 10.10, I installed 11.04 as a clean install on a different partition of my laptop. Therefore I have the system requirements. However, the upgraded 11.04 causes Unity issues.
