I thought I'll take a look at the file before I actually start the installation however I didn't find this file at all in the grub directory. Can someone please tell me if it is normal for this file to be missing or is something wrong here? if there is something wrong then what do I do

Ubuntu :: Openoffice Missing Menu Text / What To Do?

Jan 14, 2010

Good day, having a spot of bother with Openoffice, for some unknown reason im finding majority of the menu & button names have been replaced with "O" characters instead. Its doesn't effect all, but for example in the Writer, the only drop down menu at the top being render correctly is "Table". code...
All the buttons/sub buttons still work if you can guess where their pointing!

The only way I can seem to solve it is to remove "openoffice.org-gnome" & "openoffice.org-gtk" package.

Ive tried a complete reinstall already. Its usable without the above gnome and gtk extras but obviously not as nice to look at.

Im sure it was working fine the last time I used it?

Ubuntu Installation :: 10.04 Install - Missing Menu.lst?

Jun 26, 2010

I installed Ubuntu 10.04 in a partition alongside two other partitions that contain windows. One is a windows xp recovery partition (about 8 GB) and the other is windows xp media center (about 37 GB).The Ubuntu partition is about 180 GB. Anyway, after I installed it, I was only able to boot to Windows XP. I can't boot to Ubuntu.Using supergrub, however, I am able to get Ubuntu to boot up. In supergrub, I got to Gnu/Linux, select the option to "Boot Gnu/Linux directly", and it works. However, if I try the "Fix grub" option, I get "error 15: file not found". Also, if I try to the option of "Boot to Partiion" and I select the Ubuntu partition, I get "error 13: invalid or unsupported exectuable format".When in Ubuntu, I opened the terminal and tried the following:gksudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst

The menu.lst file is empty. There is nothing in it.What is going on? How can I fix it so when I boot the computer I'm given the option of booting to Windows XP media center or to Ubuntu? For additional info, I ran the bootinfoscript and the results.txt file is pasted below.

Ubuntu :: Windows XP Missing From GRUB Menu?

Dec 17, 2010

I had Windows XP installed, then installed Ubuntu 9.10 in a different partition. I was able to choose which OS to boot. Then I did a distro update to 10.04. Now Windows is missing from the GRUB boot menu.

sudo update-grub doesn't change anything so I think sudo os-prober isn't finding Windows.

I've edited grub.cfg and can get an entry added for Windows, but it doesn't actually load Windows. It just reboots the machine. If I run sudo update-grub after adding a menuentry for Windows to grub.cfg, the menuentry I added disappears.

I've run testdisk, but BackupBS isn't an option. It says the original and backup boot sector are identical.

cfdisk says sda1 is the only partition that is NTFS and it is set to Boot.

I've already installed all available updates from lucid-security and lucid-updates.

I've run bootinfoscript and here are the results:

Code:
Boot Info Script 0.55 dated February 15th, 2010
============================= Boot Info Summary: ==============================
=> Grub 2 is installed in the MBR of /dev/sda and looks on the same drive in
partition #5 for /boot/grub.
=> Windows is installed in the MBR of /dev/sdb

Ubuntu :: Windows Missing From Boot Menu

Jul 20, 2011

I had a Duel Boot set up on my Computer Windows XP Pro was installed First and then Ubuntu. Originally it was just Two options listed to choose on start up when I Booted up, this was Windows XP Pro or Ubuntu , if I did nothing Windows Xp Pro would start Automatically after about 20 seconds. A few months ago boot menu became messed up and when I started the computer it would go staight to the Grub Menu Linux Menu similar to below :

p { margin-bottom: 0.21cm; } Ubuntu, with Linux 2.6.32-33-generic-pae +
Ubunu, with Linux 2.6.32-33 generic -pae (recovery mode)
Ubunu, with Linux 2.6.32-32 generic -pae
Ubunu, with Linux 2.6.32-32 generic -pae (recovery mode)

Windows XP Pro was now at the bottom of the list and I had to scroll down to the bottom of the list to select it and if I did nothing it would Automatically boot into Ubuntu. Last night as I was scrolling down the List I accidentally hit enter it tried to load up Ubuntu and froze I restarted my computer and now Windows Xp is no longer on the list! It loads up Ubuntu fine but I can no longer boot into Windows as it is not listed when I start up. I ran sudo os-prober from Terminal and it came back with :

/dev/sdb1:Microsoft Windows XP Professional:Windows:chain

Ubuntu :: Missing Window Menu Icon With Some Themes?

Feb 5, 2010

When you go to System/Preferences/Appearance/ and the Appearance Preferences window displays the graphical representations of the themes, on most of them the gnome image-missing.png is displayed where the window menu icon (far-left on the titlebar) should be displayed. I never had this happen with Intrepid, but I do have this situation now on Jaunty. It's not just with new or added themes, it's the system's default installed themes as well. If you search around the net you'll see that this is a pretty common problem. Is a .png getting deleted, or is it something else in the process that is 'broken'?

Many of my apps display their proper menu window icons (like nautilus, ff3, etc.) - but others do not. I assume the ones that don't are trying to use a system or default icon rather than their own and that it is missing? Here are two screenshots I grabbed off of google to show you the difference.Missing...Not missing.

May 2, 2010

I upgraded to 10.4 on Friday and everything seemed to go flawlessly. I had installed Netbook launcher about a month ago and decided I didn't like it, so yesterday I uninstantiated it. Now when I boot up using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx I get this error

The panel encountered a problem while loading

I get the same result if I click "no" or "yes" the boot finishes and every thing seems to work....except the drop-down menus are missing on the panel on the right. So every thing on the left is there I.E. im connected to my router but i cant get to Fire Fox right or left clicking on the panel wont let me at to the panel so how do i get my panel back?Oh and the bottom panel is gone too. not really sure this is an upgrade problem but the timing was suspicious.
