General :: MP3 Player Needed That Does Not Require Cpu With SSE Support?

Feb 12, 2010

OMG I think I have installed every MP3 player known Amorak Audacious, Bluemindo, rhythmbox, kaffiene, Listen, VL, CPlay and more. They all require a cpu supporting SSE. This isn't an audio issue it is a graphic issue.

Does anybody know an mp3 player that will run without these graphic issues?

Ubuntu 9.1 800MHZ AMD Duron (with NO SSE)(slot A with a 100mhz bus)

Applications :: Browser Does Not Support Any Flash Player

Jan 14, 2010

I bought a netbook (VPC) which is basic netbook with limited features. It has a basic version of Linux (Linux 2.6.24 platform). My instruction booklet says it does not support Flash (player): Flash - The current browser does not support any Flash players. This will prevent viewing some web pages. Certain major websites have a simplified version on the server which will load up. When I try to play games in flash, it does not work either. Browsing on the web also is very limited, I only see mobile (cell phone) versions? (the instruction booklet does state this though) I cannot even put favorites? Is there a way that I can get Flash installed or a better browser? So I can play games that are on Facebook, etc.? and view websites like a "normal" human being should be viewing them on the web?

This is what I figured out so far:
Wi-Fi
Onboard USB and Ethernet ports
An SD reader
7″ TFT display with an 800X480 resolution
2GB of internal storage
100 MHz processor

Linux with preloaded programs such as internet browser, spreadsheet, word processor, a media player for movies, music and pictures, e-book reader, dictionary, calendar, PDF reader, email, chat, calculator, file manager.

Software :: Flash Player Doesn't Support 64-bit?

Aug 24, 2010

So after a little while of trying to get flash player to work in firefox on Slackware, I finally figured something out.

It took me a little bit to figure out where the firefox plugins folder was, because everything I read said in "/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/" Well in "/usr/lib/" there was about 6 or 7 folders, nothing else. I finally realized everything was in /usr/lib64.

Now my second problem, the flash player plugin I downloaded directly from Adobe didn't work. Well a few searches fixed this, and I found a link to the 64-bit plugin at SlackBuild [url] Now I have a couple of questions. First off, Is there any resource that would help me find out exactly what the security risks that SlackBuild claims exist in the x86_64 edition of flashplayer are, so that I can take proper precautions?

Adobe says that they don't currently support 64-bit and they say you can just use a 32-bit browser. I am a bit of a newbie when it comes to 64-bit and 32-bit architectures, so I would just like to read about the advantages of using a 64-bit browser over a 32-bit, and it would help me if anyone could direct me to a website or resource all about the 64-bit and 32-bit architecture stuff.

And in conclusion: The point in me posting this is I would like to decide whether I should continue using the 64-bit firefox or switch to a 32-bit version so I can use the official version of flashplayer. I have a habit of generally preferring the default installed applications because I feel they are typically chosen for the best compatibility, and otherwise I don't feel like asking what application I should use for each and every field of applications.

For now I'll install the 32-bit version and see if I notice any differences.

Jun 7, 2010

I want to use LDAP on SUSE 10 to authorize the use of certain objects within IBM's MQ Series via the setmqaut command. I do not want to authenticate these users to the Linux server itself via LDAP. Users that actually log onto the Linux server will be authenticated through a product from Quest formly known as VAS. My question is, does LDAP require the use of PAM or can I utilize the facilities within LDAP to communicate with a Windows Active Directory so that I can authorize the use of MQ Series objects and not authenticate actual users that would log onto the server.

General :: Partitioning For Slackware 10.1 - Require Traditional Root Account

Aug 31, 2009

In the ubuntu series I find my hard disk description as this: /dev/sda. As we know in slackware (10.1) for partitioning we either use 'fdisk' or 'cfdisk' when I use fdisk, like mentioned: fdisk /dev/sda. It says disk cannot be found.... or something like that. I think I know why?

You see my hard disk has the D: E: F: as extended partitions comprising logical drives and only my C: drive is pure primary. Does this have any connection with my problem? As from my explanation you can find that I'm a total wreck with computers.. but I'm very thrilled to learn linux. The reason why I need slax is that I require a traditional root account.

This file is generated to balance the load between servers. What I'd like to do is configure an image to boot up into Mozilla. When the user goes to the webpage, I'd like the launch.rdp file to open up in a terminal server session.I've tried with rdesktop and tsclient, but unfortunately neither would work with a "rdp" file.

General :: Not Getting Access To The Needed Paths?

Jun 18, 2011

I have not been on in about a month or 2. I have no idea how to list this thread. I am hoping that someone like tex can help out. Being lazy with ubuntu seems to have been badong. Ok, I had 2 physical machines and 3 vms. VM's ran under Vbox-ose via a bridge. OS's are buntu x2 and one centOS box. I installed webmin to make things easy ( i thought ).However, after setting webmin, my I have been randomly loosing PATH's. I mean, one minuet i can run sudo apt-get and the next the whole PATH is gone. I tried a compare of my "home" box's bashrc and bash_profile against the other machins, and outside of some alias for colr and the like nothing seems to stand out. Even if I su - to root I am not getting access to the needed paths. Now, while I could export the correct path, I am more conserned with the why of it all.

I would have thought that as long as my group setting on my ssh users were all correct AND the environment had not been changed, all would be good. I can provide more info if someone wants to help me out with this. HOwever, it drove me to a six pack. 8SI have read the man pages. I have used google. I have checked the logs. The logs by the way showed a lil hammering on one of the boxes for root access. [I]t wasnt me. However, I dont seem to be able to see a time stamp.

General :: Hide The KDE 4.3.5 Menu Until Its Needed?

Mar 10, 2010

I installed the new Frugalware 1.2 via USB and that went well. I wanted an LXDE menu, as I don't like the "style" of the KDE menus, and the KDE menus seem slow, too.

The problem is that after installing LXDE, I have the LXDE menu from what I'd call the start button, which I like, but the KDE menu is now covering the entire screen on all desktops, and there seems no way to minimize it. I doubt I'll have to use it often, but don't want to lose all access to the programs on it. I haven't checked to see if all the programs are on the LXDE menu, but I noticed that Gfpm (the package manager) is now missing from the menu. Not sure if anything else has disappeared.

n Is there a way to minimize or hide the KDE menu?

General :: ReadyNAS Duo - Under What Circumstances Resync Really Needed?

Feb 25, 2010

On the ReadyNAS Duo, a RAID resync synchronizes the entire contents of one disk to another. It's a slow operation. So it's not something to be done lightly. By default, it is done whenever the unit is shut down uncleanly (generally the result of a hang or power interruption). It's something that can be disabled, though, such that a resync would be done only when manually requested. The authors of the software RAID driver in Linux (called "md") came up with a nice solution to the problem of slow RAID resyncs: the md driver allows you to assign a write intent bitmap to an md device, and where it's stored is configurable (the default is to store it on the md device in question, in the superblock). So when the array goes down unexpectedly (e.g., in a power outage), only the blocks that the md device was going to write will actually be resynced.

It's sort of like a journal for the md device itself. Now, the ReadyNAS Duo doesn't seem to use Linux md at all for implementing the RAID volume, but it does have an option to disable automatic resync in the event of an improper shutdown. And that leads to my question: how necessary is it to do a resync in such an event? If the Duo uses the same method as the Linux md driver, then obviously such a resync would rarely be necessary. But if it doesn't, then it would be the equivalent of using the md driver without a write-intent bitmap, and a resync would almost certainly be necessary in the event of an improper shutdown. Does the Duo (and maybe other units) use the equivalent of a write intent bitmap for RAID write operations?
