I am looking for the log messages where I can find out what time my netbook hibernated? I have checked in the /var/log. And all I could see was pm-suspend.log and pm-powersave.log.
Is there one which would tell me what time my computer hibernated? The reason for this is when I go out I leave my netbook running on the battery. When the battery get to about 5% it will hibernate. I just what to see what time it did hibernate?
This may be a noob question, but I can't find the option to set the computer to hibernate after a given idle time. In the Power options there is an option to suspend, but not to hibernate.
Is there other way to set the hibernation time?
way to hibernate at a specific time or after a some minutes (like 40 minutes to an hour, guess the exact time doesnt matter anyway). normally i shutdown my comp at night with

which works just fine, but sometimes i have like 4 workspaces of stuff open that i'm working on so i'd rather just hibernate. shutdown -H does this halt thing that is really not my cup of tea so from the aformentioned googling i found out about at and sleep and crontab etc. but at and sleep cant recieve my sudo password beforehand so its useless and crontab is for repetitive scheduling, which i'd like to avoid cause i would hate to be working and suddenly have my forgotten crontab script hibernate me.
so is there any way to do a delayed hibernation? or at least some way to provide the sudo password to an at or sleep prefixed command, beforehand?
i'm only interested in doing it straight up through the terminal, not through other 3rd party software cause i tried a few of those before i found out about shutdown and they didnt work very well.
My suspend-to-disk and suspend-to-RAM stopped working months ago. I've grasped at straws about why ever since, but I really don't think it's a software problem, because I've reinstalled my system (MEPIS) repeatedly. What sort of hardware failures could cause this? What should I be looking for? I notice that at boot, Linux always says "no resume image found," even if I left the system in suspension or hibernation. I can post parts of the dmesg if someone tells me what to look for; I can't display the whole thing because it's too long to fit here.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have fedora version 8 with mysql 5.0.45 installed. I have also installed drupal. Recently drupal gave me an error "error code 28". When i checked it out it seemed to be with the db. When i tried to created a db (for testing purposes) in root...i wasn't able to. so then i tried to restart mysql ...it stopped but unfortunately i have not been able to get mysql back up...i get a message saying
"Timeout error occurred trying to start MySql Daemon".

Earlier today I downloaded a video of a Mozilla Project preview, in MP4. Of course, it won't play. All I get is the audio, and this error:

Also, when I was overdosing on XP, my media drug of choice was Klite mega codec pack (from codecs.com). It literally plays every media format, audio and video. In addition to fixing the above issue, can somebody guide me to an equivalent player with codecs for [insert any media type here]? I have several Terrabytes of various video and audio files, and prefer to not convert them all.

Is there a way to force it to sync with my domain controler or even another online NTP server?
I'm just wondering what the limits for time are. I have a program that always takes exactly 20 ms, so I assume this is the lowest it can measure, but I want to see if there's some sort of documentation of this.

I typically spend I would reckon quite honestly about 70-80% of my time with computers just fixing stuff up that either I broke or was broke in the first place. Usually it's the latter by some considerable margin. That's really inefficient, isn't it? I just wondered what others' experiences are of this phenomenon. Obviously I don't do computers for a living or I would have starved years ago. So what is the Panel's consensus view on the percentage of wasted time we should expect to spend, on average, "running just to stand still" on maintenance tasks?

I was created one folder in linux with current time was 1978(For example). I was moved this folder to usb(FAT32 file format).While seeing this folder in window its not showing the folder time created time stamp, because the USB file system only support the year after 1980 . But again i am putting the same folder in linux ,its showing the correct time stamp.How is it possible? Because FAT32 only supports timestamp after 1980, but still its showing 1978 in linux system

On further analysis, I observed that the time was jumping to 03:00:00 after 01:59:59 when the date is 27th Mar, 2011.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI ran 11.1 for about a year and had only a few issues; but for some (stupid?) reason, decided to go to 11.2.
Now my hibernate does not work (it worked almost flawlessly on 11.1. Both from shutdown options and when closing the lid.
It seems to disconnect the ethernet, but then just reconnects and resumes normal operation.
This is a IBM T42 laptop. It also does not hibernate when I close the lid, which also worked fine on 11.1.
I can't leave this thing running all the time and I don't want to do a full shutdown every time I stop using it.
I've installed all the updates and upgrades.
I have a Windows Home Server and would like to put it into hibernation from my laptop running Ubuntu. Is this possible through SSH or a program?

View 12 Replies View RelatedI cannot open documents (.odt, .doc etc) synchronized through Ubuntu One in LibreOffice 3 on my laptop running Ubuntu 11.04 (network upgrade from 10.10). LibreOffice quits by throwing an error message: "General network error has occurred". However, if I copy the same files outside the Ubuntu One synced directory (e.g. to ~/Desktop), I can open them without any errors. I just can't open them within the synced directory.
FYI, I have synchronized an existing folder on Ubuntu One after the upgrade and the synchronization has been smooth. The synced folder is a sub-directory of ~/Documents and has local sync enabled. what's going on? Let me know what more info can I provide? EDIT: I can open other files like .pdf, .mp3, .php, shared in the same directory. I'm having problem with LibreOffice in particular.

on my laptop, I have configured my power button to hibernate the system. It works, but once a while the system, after booting and while almost being where Gnome desktop appears, reboots itself from scratch.
Configuration:
- EeePC 1000HE
- Debian Squeeze up-to-date
- Hard-disk encryption via LVM installed while installing the system
Every other time my system comes out of hibernation, I see the blue Fedora screen loading like the computer is powering back on, and all of the sudden the screen goes blank, as if it shut itself back off. The funny thing is the power button is still on, but there is no display. Has anyone heard of this issue before. I'm not sure what to try to get it fixed
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running a SUSE 11.3 64 bit with the kernel installed friom repo when I send the hard disk suspension the screen goes black, the SUSE chameleon image appear on the screen for about a second with a progress bar ,then the monitor goes into standby ,the system still running and I have to manually restart. I also tried to run s2disk-r / dev/sdb6 console or via pm-hibernate with similar results. I have ever had similar problems with previous openSUSE (swap partition is not defined, problems of user privileges to be assigned for the suspension) but I was always able to solve them, this time I have no idea what it might be. One thing I noticed is that the swap is not used, even if enabled, but basically I do not even the heavily occupied RAM.

I'm running 9.10, how do I wake up from sleep or hibernation on my Dell XPS notebook? I have no problem putting the comp to sleep/hiber but can't seem to work out the keys to wake it up again.
I don't get any responses from the keys even when I try CAPS LOCK or NUM LOCK, so all I can do is reach for the on/off switch.
I am using uswsusp / s2disk and it hibernates fine. Then, on resume, it apparently completes the resume (reaches 100%) but it never progresses to the actual resumed system and gets stuck on this screen: Before upgrading from 9.04 to 10.04 it worked fine. It does not anymore.

The splash screen loads up with "Resuming from /dev/sda6" (this is the correct partition) and the HDD light shows it's reading the drive. It then stops reading and the loading animation starts up (I'm running Lucid). Then nothing, just the animation. I recently updated initramfs-tools to 0.98ubuntu2~lucid as hibernation wouldn't work at all with the old version (see [URL]). I've also installed this script because of errors on hibernation.
