I'd like to know if I could update my installation via another pc if I backup my sfs and 2fs files and load it from another pc. I wonder if Puppy includes driver files specific for the pc upon creation of the sfs and 2fs files.
During booting of lupu 5.20 ,It starts searching for puppy files in computer disk drives, says boot partitions not found, dropping out to initial ram disk console then /bin/sh: can't access tty: job control turned off # it remains at this position for ever. I have been using lucid puppy 5.11 with pen drive through multibooting software of pendrivelinux. I have P2 with 256MB ram, hdd 10GB,usb pendrive 1 GB.
I tried installing lucid puppy(lupu) in my pen drive using Universal-USB-Installer-1.8.4.0 but when i booted up using my flash drive the boot screen displayrd a message:
SYSLINUX 3.86 2010-04-01 CBIOS Copyright (C) 1994-2010 H. Peter et al No DEFAULT or UI configuration directiove found! boot:_
I also get similar message message when i try to boot from DSL BUt a few weeks ago when i tried lupu without formatting my flash drive(it had some stuff in it) lupu ran it said 5 seconds to boot an image come but nothing more it hanged up showing a black screen and a blinking under score symbol

I just got this used computer with Lucid Puppy 5.1 on it, it is an old IBM desktop from way back. Anyway i want to install Windows Live Essentials or at least some kind of MSN on it for IM chat. Is this possible ? You may email me at [URL].. or write back to me here.
I'm using xarchive and I have unrar-3.7.8.pet installed. Normal rar files open without problem. Tried opening a password-encrypted rar file and it hangs everytime.
I am new to Linux and I am trying to install puppy on an old IBM thinkpad 600X (10gb hd, 196mb ram) When installing puppy from a cd, it loads up and does the kernel stuff before "Searching for Puppy files in computer disk drives" - this takes about 10 minutes before saying "pup_421.sfs not found. Dropping out to initial ramdisk console" then it goes to "/bin/sh can't access tty; jon control turned off". then it stays like that and doesn't continue.
I am using Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit on my laptop. Of late, Qwit isn't updating any of my tweets.I've installed it from Synaptic. I found a later version on Qwit homepage but I'm clueless how to install it. How can I get it working again?
there's a way to update the OS from 10.04 to 10.10 without having to redo my LiveCD or something? Also I was wondering if, in doing this I can save my old ubuntu account with all of the extra apps I downloaded, and my files?
I have noticed in the recent updates there is a Kernel update 2.6.32-22 but there is no restricted modules included. On my Desktop I have a Nvidia card which I installed the driver using the Hardware Drivers Application. As far as I know these Drivers are ether reinstalled or updated whenever there is a kernel update.
I also have a Laptop with a ATI Radeon card which I did run the updates and ended up (after the reboot) in low graphics mode, after a bit of work I was able to reinstall the drivers and get my desktop back so that's ok now.
I had this problem a few years ago with an old version of Ubuntu, kernel updates but no restricted drivers. The drivers turned up the next day and all was fine. I was just wandering if this is a known issue with Lucid or if anyone else has had this problem, It's been a couple of days since I noticed the Kernel update but still Restricted Modules. Oh I'm using Ubuntu Lucid 10.04
having upgraded two days ago to lucid studio from karmic studio, i have had recurring issues with either a total lockout of wireless connection, despite inputting IP and WEP etc correctly and telling me it has full connectivity. my other problem was i had wireless connection, but could not connect to the repositories for updating or downloading new software.
I have disks of Lucid Puppy 5.11 and MacPup 5.11. Both disks run very well on my laptop, an old 2001 model Sony Vaio which is already booting Ubuntu 10.04 UNE.
But neither finishes loading on my HP Pavilion a1020n desktop, which is running Windoze XP Home. They both bog down on looking for optical drives... interesting as I am loading them from CD and it reads the optical drives fine up to that point.
It's sad that a quick-loading portable Linux won't load at all on my newer, faster machine.
Maybe it's because the laptop has GRUB already? My HP chokes every time I try to modify the boot sector, lots of "wonderful" security features to keep Windoze from "getting corrupted".
I have downloaded and burnt an iso file of Puppy 5 . What is the best method to upgrade puppy 4 , Which is already on my Toshiba Satellite , To Puppy 5 .
I'm fairly new to linux, I can't get puppy to connect to ANY wireless network, protected or not. The driver autodetected my wireless card (IBM high rate wireless LAN with modem II) as an Intersil Prism 2.5 chipset, but it will not work. I wonder if the driver is corrupted, or if I should just use ndiswrapper with the windows drivers. Obviously, I would prefer to use native linux drivers, but the wrapper will not tax the system too much if I use that option. I have heard that these laptops are very linux friendly, and I ran xubuntu on it for quite some time with no big problems. My home router is a Belkin F6D4230-4 V3. This thing will not show up at all, but my family's old linksys will, I can't connect to it either.
I know there are many threads about dual boot linux windows. I did a search but couldn't find for this specific question. I'm planning to use Puppy Linux as my main OS on my P4 machine. I asked a friend of mine who knows Linux very well. I asked should I install Puppy alone on my P4 machine? He told me that I should dual boot with XP because sometimes Linux alone does not compatible with graphic card, sound card, Ethernet adapter, etc. If dual boot Linux with Windows. They both can share the same drivers. Is it true?
i am trying to install in my puppy 4 the gxine 0.5.903i already have downloaded it to My-Documents folder. However, each time that i try to install it using the package manager the file does'nt foundedThis is my firt time using Linux and i really like puppy
I want to know how to install MYSQL on puppy linux.I searched, but could not find any useful stuff.I found this tutorial useful and want to know is this work on puppy linux[URL]
I was trying to do a live boot of puppy on my new laptop.I installed puppy to a flashdrive via unetboot in. i did the normal BIOS screen but up but then it said as puppy was trying to boot up "pup-431.sfs not found"but when i booted up windows and i was able to find the file on my flashdrive.
I have recently inherited an old xseries eserver 220 with 1.2ghz intel pentium III processor. I can boot puppylinux fine from the cd, but puppylinux does not see the hard drive even though it shows up in the bios sysutilities and I formatted the hard drive from the bios.
I've been reading forums for 2 weeks now and it took me a week to figure out how to post a new thread. My laptop is under warranty but Acer wont help!Acer has suggested that I pay a third party to rescue my data from my hard drive.I get a startup message that says "Check cable" "Operating system not found" so I downloaded Puppy 3 and it looks and operates fine but I see only one empty hard drive . The computer has two.
I have just booted to Puppy (for the first time in my life) on a 6 y/o amd type with a 40Gb HD, Ram: 512.I would like to make a permanent install of puppy onto the HD, I have read various pieces on how to install, defraging, repartitioning, differing file systems. However, i am a bit lost. The computer will be used for e-mail, web browsing, and watching the odd film (films installed on the drive) - I am unsure as to the best combination of file types and partition in order to keep puppy happy and keep some compatibility with the world outside of linux.
For instance, could i have a small partition with the puppy install and setting, and the rest on a format that would be compatible with windows/mac/linux? If so, how do I do this, pls bare in mind that my windows install is running but incomplete. I have the feeling this will be a really simple problem for someone to help me with,
