General :: Install Firefox 3.6 In The Tr.bz2 Format On Kubuntu?
Feb 4, 2010
I am trying to install Firefox 3.6 in the tr.bz2 format on Kubuntu. How do I get it to install? Is there a way to do it using add/remove programs and the Adept installer or do I need to use the command line. If I need to use the command line what do I need to do to get it installed?
I recently received my Kubuntu 10.10 Desktop Edition Install CD and I'm trying to install it to dual boot with Windows 7. I used Wubi and it gave me two options: Install inside from Windows, and Demo and Full Installation. I picked Demo and Full Install and tried to install from inside the Kubuntu Demo. When I do and it gets to the "Disk" section of the install, it gives me two options to install. The first option is to erase and partition the whole drive, which I understand as it would erase my whole hard drive and partition the whole thing for Kubuntu, not allowing me to use Win7. The second option was to manually select partitions, but since I'm a noob to this, I dont know how to set partitions. I need to know how to install Kubuntu where I can dual-boot with my Win7.
I know my question is quite essential and some how very abc but i really need your help. I'm just a newbie for Linux.
My problem are:
Hardware: Laptop 6735b from HP Source of problem: ATI graphic driver not installed Problem:
1. Freeze Operating system when power unplug (in Gnome) 2. Can not start any Operating system with full or just part of KDE (Kubuntu, Linux mint). Thus i have to stuck with pure Gnome like Ubuntu. ==> install Ubuntu ==> install ATI graphic driver ==> install KDE ==> swap to Kubuntu in Ubuntu.
I tried a lot of OS and none will work. I think the only way for me is create a install version of Kubuntu with ATI driver already build in so at least i can start my OS.Thus could somebody feel free guide me in step by step to build a install disc for Kubuntu. All i need is add up in setup process ATI driver install.
I want to dual boot kubuntu. I am a linux noob so have basically no experience with linux except what i have done of the live cd. My problem is that when I get to the part of the installer relating to partitions. It wont allow me to select the free space I have shrunk off my windows/data partition. it calls the space unusable and will not allow me to proceed when it is selected. Shouldn't the installer turn the free space into a partition for kubuntu to install to? The installer also show a bar wich marks off the partitions and how much each one takes up it does recongnize that there is free space because it tells me that I have 25 gb free.
I am a ubuntu user and recently install kubuntu desktop in to it.In the ubuntu I am using gnome network manager which is very user friendly to connect Internet. But when I log to kubuntu I am getting headache due to that unfriendly network manager.Stillcouldn't connect to Internet in kubuntu.I heard that we can install gnome network manager tokubuntu. I go through several documentation in Internet and tried for that. And they all failed.most of the document describe to install it via online. But I cant connect to Internet through kubuntu. Is there any way to do that. Can I do it off-line or can I do it through Ubuntu(can I use Ubuntu synaptic package manager or terminal to install gnome network manager to Kbuntu ).If can how to do it.I am new to linux.

I'm just starting out with Fedora 14, and trying to install LibraOffice 3.3 from a cd from Linux format. Extracted the RPM file into my Downloads folder. using 'yum install *.rpm' from su - it all seems to progress OK until getting a 'not signed' error.Tried 'yum --skip-broken install *.rpm' to get around this problem, but still got error messages. So then used 'yum --nogpgcheck --skip-broken install *.rpm' - and all seemed to go OK and got a successful message, but have got nothing in the application menu. Can you tell me how to get a shortcut in order to open the Office programs?

Has anyone else using Kubuntu 11.04 with Firefox 4 noticed a black background underneath the speech bubble-looking dialogs that come from its top toolbar? Is anyone aware of an existing fix or workaround for this issue? It seems to not be a theme-specific bug (oxygen-gtk, qtcurve, and raleigh are all affected). Does it have anything to do with the black window-resize handle that you have to disable in .gtkrc-2.0-kde4?
just wondering is there a simple script to convert datetime to UTC format. I have been searching different forums but most answers are for converting UTC to datetime. For example what is a simple command/script to convert todays datetime to UTC format i.e. '2009-10-09 11:47:59'.
I am having a problem getting sound to work in flash-videos in Kubuntu 10.10. My system currently has two working sound cards, the one integrated into my motherboard and the other is a USB Logitech headset. After installation, the speakers were set as my default output device which I did not want. I was able to move all the sounds over to the USB headset using phonon. While Amarok works, videos work (downloaded, wmv, avi, divx, etc) I cannot get flash video to work in Firefox. I set up my prefered device as the USB headset for everything in Phonon, but still the sound will only come out of my integrated soundcard (speakers). I'm not sure what exactly I am missing, I set everything up, but still it's a no go. What switch did I miss? I haven't used Kubuntu for a while, but i'm pretty sure this worked fine in Ubuntu 9.04 (when I last used it).
I need some assistance in trying to format a USB hard drive to vfat format but can't seem to do so. I am currently using RHEL 5.3. I have tried the following commands and they all come back as "command not found"

I installed Kubuntu-Desktop on Ubuntu & now my Ubuntu installation is on the 2nd (data)partition! It's hard to believe but I'm looking at it from a live cd and that's what looks like happened. For right now, my main goal is to get Ubuntu back.Should I make the 2nd partition bootable so I have a dual-boot option at startup? Should I make the 2nd partition bootable & not the first? Can I uninstall Kubuntu somehow & have things return to how they were?I thought I was just loading an alternative sassion to Gnome.I thought that the only thing I said yes to was to use the KDE boot manager (or whatever).
I have a scond hand eee 701 4g pc which I think has the original xandros o/s. At the moment I havefirefox 2 installed and wish to upgrade. I have dowloaded firefox 3.6 15 to my home file but am unable to install. I have tried yurenju's method but get the message - no such file or directory.

Tri-booting. They were installed in the order I listed above. I ran into a few bugs with Kubuntu, so I no longer want to use it. I want to use GParted on a LiveCD to format Kubuntu and expand my Ubuntu home partition to sit on top of Kubuntu's space right now. If I nuke Kubuntu, will Grub still exist with my Ubuntu/XP entries to boot?
I am not able to install 11.3 x86_64 on an OCZ 120 GB Agility 2 SSD. I receive a system error -3030 when it tries to format the drive. If I use go into rescue mode and either format or partition the drive, the installer crashes.
Debian 6 ("Squeeze") uses a rebranded version of Firefox called Iceweasel. It however lacks plugin support, most of my favorites don't work.So what is best way to install the "real" Firefox on Debian?
I have installed Ubuntu 9.10 Server on a machine primarily as a LAMP & File server. I also have installed Webmin with this.
The problem is oviously I need a browser to do this. I am having issues trying to install firefox 3.5 and the open correctly from terminal to access Webmin. I am very new to this especially commands wise to open Firefox. Idont know if I need to change directories to open it. A few guides I looked at said type in ~firefox/firefox. Which didn't work.
Also I saw something about profile which I haven't setup yet. Would I need to do this?
