Aug 21, 2011I hope this post stands in the right section.I have a commandline i need to enter in terminal when i want to run a program. i tought lets put that piece of command in an .sh file and just click the file to run the program (then i dont need to open terminal first an give in the command) however the .sh file does not open the program. so i propably need to make a executable (application/x-executable).

Sep 26, 2010I need to strip the executable flag from all files within a certain directory and sub directories. Right now I'm doing it with a 2 step process
find /dir/ -type f -exec chmod ugo-x {} ;
find /dir/ -type d -exec chmod ugo+rx {} ;
Is it possible to modify the first line so that I can strip exec flag from all non-directory files? Since this needs to be done on a fairly regular basis across a lot of directories and files, I'd prefer not to use a bash script which would slow it down.

May 28, 2011I cant make files executable anymore.using chmod or from file properties.. it isn't working.
AS far as I remember, I didn't make any changes in the user settings and my account has the administrator rights. For an un-executable file, say a jpg or a txt, it can be done.but doesn't happen with a .sh, .py or any other xecutable. chmodi-ing shows no error, but the file isn't executable. Through the GUI, when I check the box , its immediately unchecked again.

I looked into this, but I don't understand what I'm doing well enough to assign file permission to this program.

Another thing i want to ask is, if i have more scripts to run at startup, what should i do becoz there is limited terminal that i can use.
Someone told me that i can:
1)-put the script in /etc/init.d such that i can add it with chkconfig and run as service (not sure how to do this in details also)
2)-add a script in /etc/rc.local (not sure how?write what script)

I am generating the HTML and I'm using thttpd for the server. If I do it manually (Copy Link Location, paste into vlc) it works fine, but I'd like click-and-play. There is a tool that aim to find and install missing fonts when an non-displayable character appears, but it starts mainly when I accidentally open non-text file in terminal and never when a web-page I open in Mozilla Firefox (or Konqueror) contains such kind of characters. So, I see a rectangle with hexadecimal number of character in it (or simply empty rectangle in case of Konqueror) and don't know if there is a easy way to see it by installing missing font automatically (or manually at last) for range of this character or a way to install complete font collection to display all unicode characters from all ranges.

I have Wine installed, but I can not open the file as it is blocked from executing with a window popping up telling me that this file was blocked due to security reasons. This is error that I keep getting every time. Iam using fedora 10 version and I keep getting this error while i was trying to insatl madplay for vlc source code compilation. I have insatalled libmad .0.15.1,libid3tag.0.15, I got these codecs from [URL] and vlc sorce code is from [URL]. Config.log file details are:
