General :: Can't Access Windows Hidden Files
May 23, 2011
I had Windows on my machine but I decided to try Ubuntu 11.04. I kept my partitions where I store music, movies and stuff and it is OK, I can open anything, but I can't open the files that were in a hidden folder. I see then, I can browse my Windows hidden directories, but I can't open the files!

I'm trying to remotely access windows log files from linux. So far I've found two different approaches.
Install syslog server on windows machine and let windows send log files to linux, read those files Remotely access log files with wmi implementation for linux.
Does anyone know about limitations for those two approaches before I dive into implementation?

Ubuntu 10.04
I want to copy all directories, files, and hidden files and hidden directories with one command. I want these items to replace any same items in the target directory.
I have tried several things, such as:
cp -r *
cp -aR *
but I only seem to get visible files and directories. Obviously, I am missing something. (A brain, probably....)

I have Windows 7 64bit and Ubuntu 10.04 dual booting on one machine.I'd like to access my Windows 7 files from within Ubuntu (and preferably vice-versa). I've not been able to find any tutorials online to tell me how this is done. There seems to be many tools for Win to Ext2/Ext3 but nothing really providing the solution I need.

I am trying to access my Windows 7 files from Fedora 15. can view the Windows network from Linux and it displays the laptop fine. I can view the folders on the Windows 7 laptop but I can't access/open them. I receive an 'Unable to mount file' message in Linux. I have Samba installed and running fine. Is there something I have to change in the Linux firewall or samba.conf?

I can't access my files on windows from ubuntu anymore. I was able to do that some time ago, I'm not sure what changed. I can see the shared folders, but when I try to open them, and authentication window appears, asking for the login, password and work group. It doesn't get passed that even though I enter the correct information.

I am using ubuntu 8.04 and have a separate home partition. While setting it up I had a few failures and was left with several directories containing many hidden files which I can't seem to delete. The man pages for 'rm' didn't seem to provide the answer either.
Is there a flag or escape sequence that will allow 'rm' to delete these files?

Is there a way to make the system display hidden files in the home folder when you open it? I know you can select "Show Hidden Files" in the view menu but having to do this every time you want to see or access hidden files and folders is annoying!

How do I get Ubuntu's "Disk Usage Analyzer" to show me the hidden files?
It tells me my home dir uses 3GB, but only accounts for 525MB (the results of du -shc *). Can I get it to show me the other files that are using the space?

I have a Kingston 8gb Datatraveler that has been giving me troubles lately. For some reason after I delete files from it it still shows up as full and the files are shown in the hidden trash files. How do I get rid of these files? I can't delete them as they just show back up. Also, I tried to format the drive with gparted and it won't unmount. When I right click and select information, at the bottom it says: Unable to find mount point. Unable to read the contents of the file system. Because of this, some operations may be unavailable.

Once upon a time i hid the boot loader by setting the default boot to windows 7 and the waiting time to 0. However, i can't seem to access it anymore... When i hold shift on boot, nothing happens. When i hold esc, my computer starts beeping like mad if i hold it too soon, but if i hold it later, it just goes to the windows boot thing and reboots. So.. is there anything i can do other than downloading the whole OS again and making a live CD? (don't have the old one anymore)

I have both Windows And Ubuntu 11.04 installed. Right now I'm using Ubuntu, but when I wanted to listen to my music I can't seem to find it. It is located on the C-drive in Windows, but I can't find any ways to access that drive. I've also just started using Ubuntu (like 2 hours or so) so I do not know much about it.
