i want to install the newest version of Kde ( 4.4.0 - Caikaku )
I'm looking for some yum repository to install it.
I've already tried the kde.repos from [URL], but they only have support KDE 3.5.10. My kernel is 2.6.18-164.11.1.el5 on CentOS 5.3
Can I ask if it is possible to add the newest version of rrdtool to CentOS repositories? Now I'm using 1.3.8 but there is already 1.4.5. We have some policy so I'm not able to install it not via repo way...

Up to Suse 11.3 Yast automatically chooses the latest version from each available repository that is installed (eg, Packman or Mozilla Build Service). With 11.4 however, I noticed that it only updates a package, if a newer version is avalible in the repository from which the package originally origines. Since I don't want to look through 4 GB of packages manually, whether there are newer versions in another repository available, I ask you if I there is a posibility to get the old behavior of YAST back.

I am looking for an iso file, and I am trying to run this off of a live CD for now. So I want a light version of Linux, probably LXDE, or if not, then probably XFCE. But I need a new version of Firefox and OpenOffice included.
Because, I tried burning the customizable NimbleX @ custom.nimblex.net . Pretty good, except it uses Firefox 2, and Open Office 2.3, which are outdated.
And I tried Mint XFCE, which might have been pretty good too, but it had some issue of blanking and requiring relogin after I opened hotmail frequently (user id: mint, password: blank).
The web browser and the word processing program are the most important and essential applications to me.
So are there any Linux versions in LXDE on LiveCD that include newer versions of Firefox (or at least another good browser) and Open Office (oo seems better than abi)? (Again, if no LXDE, perhaps XFCE?)
I just want to download a good version in an iso file, and burn it to a CD and get to work. Like I said the web browser and the word processing program are all important.
So really, what iso/LiveCD versions are the fastest for running on an older system, and yet have the newest browser and word processor included?
how to get the newest Java Version. My Debian has got Java 1.50.3 as Default. I am running Debian Kernel vers:2.6.26-2-686 on a GA-D510UD Mainboard. I tried to install it with apt-get but it just says that it could not find java. I found a packet at Linux & ebian wiki, but i dont know how to extract it into the root Filesystem /. If i just copy it there Debian tells me thati havent got the permission.

I want to upgrade it to a newer version, because it has nice new features I need to use in a PHP script I write for a website. I tried yum, but it did not help, it didn't have a newer version of ImageMagick. Maybe I have to use some other repositories (I use CentOS and RPMFprge repositories only) or use them some other way. I ended up with downloading ImageMagick 6.5.4 RPM from ImageMagick website (it was marked as Fedora package, there's no one for CentOS there) and tried to install it. I've got some absent dependencies, but installed them all, most from the CentOS and RPMForge repositories. Some were absent from those repositories (like jasper-libs and libtool-ltdl) and I installed them from other sources.Finally, when I tried to install ImageMagick I got this error:

I tried to install it using --nodeps, but got some "cpio: Bad magic" error. So, as far as I understand, I need to upgrade "rpm" package itself to make it working. Correct me if I'm wrong here. The current version of rpm is: bash-3.2# rpm --version RPM version 4.4.2.3
If I really have to upgrade rpm, then I'm not sure what to do. I have few questions:
1) First of all, what version of "rpm" package do I need? Because I don't want any conflicts. The latest version, as I can see on rpm.org, is 4.7.1. Will it work with CentOS 5.3?
2) Where do I get the right rpm for the rpm upgrade? If it's available at all. Rpm.org, as far as I can see, got source only, and I'm not sure CentOS uses their version of rpm. Where can I get the right rpm package, preferably as a plain .rpm file so I don't need to build it myself?
3) And after all, the most important. Wouldn't my system break at all if I upgrade rpm? I don't want to screw things up and end up with a broken system.

Especially in installing newer versions of gmp and mpfr (apparently upgrading from certain versions of gmp will write over the header files, but won't change path locations for the lib files?) After examining the problem a little closer, I got worried that I was going to end up making the system unstable, so I stopped fiddling.

I gave up and leave it for peace.

i tried to install fce ultra. i downloaded the source from the site, and followed instructions. Everything seems to have gone well but, when i try to run it, i get a pop up saying

IIm running several Webservers on CentOS 5.2. Due to the Hosting-Platform I use, it is recommended that there will not be CentOS 5.3-Updates installed. So I searched the net a lot now but didn't find a propper solution. Is there a way to tell yum only install patches and updates for version 5.2 and not to upgrade to 5.3?

Originally I set it up with Xen to becasue I was goig to create the odd VM on it, however I no longer need to do this.Further, I believe I am having networking issues due to the installation of Xen. The machine cannot seem to locate any network addresses (eg websites) unless I put in a hosts entry for them. I believe this networking issue would be easier to rectify if the virtual networking interfaces for Xen were not installed but to do this requires a Kernel replacement. Im not experienced with doing this and the machine is located remotely to me and I dont have the original install CD available.How would I go about replacing the kernel to the non Xen version if I dont have the install CDs?
