i want to install the newest version of Kde ( 4.4.0 - Caikaku )
I'm looking for some yum repository to install it.
I've already tried the kde.repos from [URL], but they only have support KDE 3.5.10. My kernel is 2.6.18-164.11.1.el5 on CentOS 5.3

I downloaded the latest ClamAV (clamav-0.96-27.1.x86_64.rpm) from the opensuse ftp site and when i double-click on the RPM and choose 'install' it says this:[PK_TMP_DIR|dir:///var/tmp/TmpDir.h1Oz1u] Repository already exists.I looked in the software manager in opensuse to see if it has the latest ClamAV package but it doesn't have the latest package or any package of ClamAV.

I booted from USB and deleted one partition that contained Linux (formated it to ntfs) files using gparted. When I wanted to boot from Windows installation CD, i got the following message:Unknown file system:Grub rescue> I dont know how to proced with installation of XP, it seems it can not boot from my CD.

My procedure for updating the installed packages was, to klick on the list of packages that are installed in the installation source @ system in YAST and choose "Update if newer version is available". Up to Suse 11.3 Yast automatically chooses the latest version from each available repository that is installed (eg, Packman or Mozilla Build Service). With 11.4 however, I noticed that it only updates a package, if a newer version is avalible in the repository from which the package originally origines. Since I don't want to look through 4 GB of packages manually, whether there are newer versions in another repository available, I ask you if I there is a posibility to get the old behavior of YAST back.

Which LXDE version of Linux has the newest version of Firefox and Open Office included?
I am looking for an iso file, and I am trying to run this off of a live CD for now. So I want a light version of Linux, probably LXDE, or if not, then probably XFCE. But I need a new version of Firefox and OpenOffice included.
Because, I tried burning the customizable NimbleX @ custom.nimblex.net . Pretty good, except it uses Firefox 2, and Open Office 2.3, which are outdated.
And I tried Mint XFCE, which might have been pretty good too, but it had some issue of blanking and requiring relogin after I opened hotmail frequently (user id: mint, password: blank).
The web browser and the word processing program are the most important and essential applications to me.
So are there any Linux versions in LXDE on LiveCD that include newer versions of Firefox (or at least another good browser) and Open Office (oo seems better than abi)? (Again, if no LXDE, perhaps XFCE?)
I just want to download a good version in an iso file, and burn it to a CD and get to work. Like I said the web browser and the word processing program are all important.
So really, what iso/LiveCD versions are the fastest for running on an older system, and yet have the newest browser and word processor included?

After playing with various Linux distributions over the past 3 weeks (mostly Ubuntu) I decided on Fedora as the keeper. However, when it comes to linux I'm about as green as they come. I installed KDE Fedora today and managed to get Firefox and Flash installed without much trouble. However, I'm trying to download the newest version of Thunderbird but after a lot of looking, how to do it.

The only thing is, I am not entirely sure how to do this, I used to have it done on one of my other Computers, but I forgot how I did it, I am currently downloading the newest version of Ubuntu and I want to be able to run both.

I've searched quite a bit for how to set up Java environment variables with the newest java JDK. I installed java using the following commands:
yum groupinstall "java development" (I need it for the application I am trying to run)
yum install "java"
I have them both installed however I can't seem to get java to function. The application I am trying to run requires that I set java environment variables any solutions?

I have ImageMagick 6.2.8 installed on my CentOS 5.3 (64bit) system. I want to upgrade it to a newer version, because it has nice new features I need to use in a PHP script I write for a website. I tried yum, but it did not help, it didn't have a newer version of ImageMagick. Maybe I have to use some other repositories (I use CentOS and RPMFprge repositories only) or use them some other way. I ended up with downloading ImageMagick 6.5.4 RPM from ImageMagick website (it was marked as Fedora package, there's no one for CentOS there) and tried to install it. I've got some absent dependencies, but installed them all, most from the CentOS and RPMForge repositories. Some were absent from those repositories (like jasper-libs and libtool-ltdl) and I installed them from other sources.Finally, when I tried to install ImageMagick I got this error:
-bash-3.2# rpm -Uvh --test ImageMagick-6.5.4-10.x86_64.rpm
error: Failed dependencies:
rpmlib(FileDigests) <= 4.6.0-1 is needed by ImageMagick-6.5.4-10.x86_64
rpmlib(PayloadIsXz) <= 5.2-1 is needed by ImageMagick-6.5.4-10.x86_64
I tried to install it using --nodeps, but got some "cpio: Bad magic" error. So, as far as I understand, I need to upgrade "rpm" package itself to make it working. Correct me if I'm wrong here. The current version of rpm is: bash-3.2# rpm --version RPM version 4.4.2.3
If I really have to upgrade rpm, then I'm not sure what to do. I have few questions:
1) First of all, what version of "rpm" package do I need? Because I don't want any conflicts. The latest version, as I can see on rpm.org, is 4.7.1. Will it work with CentOS 5.3?
2) Where do I get the right rpm for the rpm upgrade? If it's available at all. Rpm.org, as far as I can see, got source only, and I'm not sure CentOS uses their version of rpm. Where can I get the right rpm package, preferably as a plain .rpm file so I don't need to build it myself?
3) And after all, the most important. Wouldn't my system break at all if I upgrade rpm? I don't want to screw things up and end up with a broken system.

An application I'm attempting to install URL...) requires a version of gcc above 4.3.2, however the only rpms available for CentOS I can find are 4.1.2.I began trying to install a newer version via compiling the latest one from the gcc GNU site, but I started running into problems. Especially in installing newer versions of gmp and mpfr (apparently upgrading from certain versions of gmp will write over the header files, but won't change path locations for the lib files?) After examining the problem a little closer, I got worried that I was going to end up making the system unstable, so I stopped fiddling.
So my question is, is there an easier way to install a newer version of gcc? I'm not completely new to Linux, but I'm far from a master at the system, if anyone knew an easier/slightly more fool proof way of upgrading gcc.

Since about half a year ago I downloaded the 11th version of Fedora from the official web page but when trying to install it (I tried booting from cd) it loads everything all right, I get the fedora loading screen, but when it finishes the loading remains so, I doesnt mark errors or anything, I get the cursor on the black screen, the HDD LED turns off and then it remains just like that, I left it up to 1 full hour and from there nothing happens, also tried the ubuntu 9.04 and it is exactly the same, after loadint everything ok, it reaches a point where the screen goes black with a cursor and the HDD LED goes out , the cursor keeps going and it gets stuck.i readed a few time ago that this happens because my video card (which was integrated in the mb) did not support these versions of linux, then i bought an Nvidia GeForce FX 5200LE 128mb card and same thing happened, a couple of months ago i was using a P4GEMX ASUS motherboard with 760 RAM and HDD 160 gb IDE drive. I gave up and leave it for peace.
Today I use an D865GBF Intel motherboard with 1GB of RAM, same video card Nvidia Geforce FX 5200LE and passes the same thing, also tried to install Windows 7 and reaches the point where it shows the wallpaper just before the installation options but nothing happens and it stays right there .. the pointer disappears, I gets stuck in the wallpaper and yet again...the HDD LED goes out, I am very confused, I changed every piece of the pc, new motherboard, new rams and nothing, the only thing that I am still using of the old pc is the hard drive, also tried another HDD, one of 60gb GHola que tal, very good afternoon to all, is the first time I write in the forum and my problem is this:
Since about half a year ago I ordered a cd of ubuntu 9.04 version when trying to install (if I try booting from cd) load all right, I get the ubuntu loading logo, just finished loading and remains so, I mark errors or anything, I get the cursor on the black screen, the HDD LED turns off and now ... just so he stays, I left it up to 1 full hour and from there nothing happens, also try booting linux from the cd (without making changes to your computer) and it is exactly the same, try also with Fedora 11 and it is exactly the it reaches a point where the screen goes black with a cursor and the LED goes out there hard drive, the cursor keeps going and is just lei long that this was because my video card (which was built in) did not support these versions of linux, then buy a Nvidia GeForce FX 5200LE card and same thing happened, was a P4GEMX ASUS motherboard with 760 RAM and disk 160 gb IDE drive. I have recently set up a CENTOS server using the kernel 2.6.18-164.el5xen (x64 5.4 Install I believe). Originally I set it up with Xen to becasue I was goig to create the odd VM on it, however I no longer need to do this.Further, I believe I am having networking issues due to the installation of Xen. The machine cannot seem to locate any network addresses (eg websites) unless I put in a hosts entry for them. I believe this networking issue would be easier to rectify if the virtual networking interfaces for Xen were not installed but to do this requires a Kernel replacement. Im not experienced with doing this and the machine is located remotely to me and I dont have the original install CD available.How would I go about replacing the kernel to the non Xen version if I dont have the install CDs?
