The CD/DVD drive of my notebook is broken. However, the drive from my desktop computer is working perfectly. How can I access the CD/DVD drive from my desktop computer over the network? I want to put a DVD disc there and access it from my notebook.Both computers have Gentoo/Linux. (but the solution ought to work on any Linux distribution)

well the majority of the systems at my school run on windows (duh) and each student has their own network drive nobody has access to each others drive, but all of the systems accesses these drives with the use of novell client and theres a specific name for each drive and password, plus the network tree has a certain name to, how do i access these drives in pclinuxos by including usernames and password to access these drives based on the username and password that is typed in.

I have both computers connected through the same internet router, and i am succesfully accessing windows share files and remote control. The problem is, i dont want to move the files i want from their current location, to a share folder, and then onto my laptop. The main problem is that my whole family uses the pc, and while they are logged on i cannot remote control.

The folder im connecting to has a couple symbolic links setup and all of them give me an Access denied error when I try to open them. I have dont everything I can think off including chowning all the folders to the user that Im logged in as and doing chmod 777 on all folders and files. I have tried deleting the link and recreating it and nothing works. This was working fine a few days ago and now it doesn't.

I have a Western Digital Live Hub, basically a hard drive that sits under my telly and lets me stream media from the computer or transfer media to it from the computer. I could access it fine a couple of days ago, but then I reinstalled Ubuntu and now I get the error "Unable to mount location, Failed to retrieve share list from server". Anyone have any idea how I can access it again?

when you attache a pen drive with windows you can drag from the pen drive to the desk top, and visa versa. with Linux logged in as normal user I can drag files from pen drive to Desktop but not the other way around. my pen drive is TITANIUM and at /dev/sdb1 mounted at /media/TITANIUM so I have to use
cp /home/user/Desktop/file /media/TITANIUM as root
If I log in as root I can drag files from pen drive to desktop and also from Desktop to pen drive. is there an easy way to give permissions for normal user. I had a look a groups and it has scanner, printer etc listed ,can I amend groups somehow to enable same permissions for pen drive access as root?

router configured with 192 is Huawei 510
router configured with 10 is Dlink - DIR 618
I have even tried to open 2nd interface on Huawei 510 even then it doesn't seem to work.
I have two external hard drives. One is a 2.5" 80GB USB HDD and the other is a Seagate 3.5" USB 500GB HDD. Both hard drives are mounted properly and I can access the data on both hard drives. I can access the small 80GB HDD via ssh from another computer and delete files, but when I try to access the 500GB drive via ssh it says access denied. When I try to access it with root, I can access it but I cannot see any files listed.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI got a development machine with Apache installed. Everything was configured correctly, machine was running perfectly for some time, but today, suddenly I lost connection to my Wireless network.
Now I simply...can't access it. All details are correct, I even turned off MAC Addresses validation to make sure it's not my AP configuration fault. Nothing helped.
Any ideas what could happen? I did not update any libraries/packages. Just got disconnected from my network and cannot access it anymore.
To give more informations: I'm using Broadcom wireless device and b43 driver but I don't think this can be an error. Logs tell me nothing.
I am facing problem to access my network PC's and even ping. My network scenario is as follows. I am using squid 2.6 stable 21 on RHEL5. all other PC's on network (OS is Windows XP Professional SP2) are connected to internet through squid, authentication is ON on squid. All PC's on network (Win XP Systems)are assigned IP statically and Default Gateway is set which is Squid's IP. I want to access these PC's (Win XP Systems) mean share data between them. View 2 Replies View Related I am running a hp dv701175nr laptop and am booting ubuntu 11.04 from a usb flash drive. I can not seem to find my internal drive that has windows 7 stored on it. I tried to mount it but it give me this error:
Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with:
mount: according to mtab, /dev/sdb1 is already mounted on /
mount failed
I can't use this operating system if I can't access my windows 7 drive and I really want to use this OS .
EDIT: Okay, so I think I have found my problem, but I don't know how to fix it, there are differences in my mtab and fstab commands, I will post what they say in a second, but I do not know how or what I need to do to change and make the settings right
