How can I read .docbook files? If I click the name in the desktop, it asks me for an app to open it.

Jul 30, 2010I'm running Slack 13.1 [32 bit] Re: pdfedit from SlackBuilds 13.1. I've installed qt3 per the dependencies w/installpkg. I've pointed pdfedit.SlackBuilds to where qt3 is and it's found fine. The problem arises when the build can't find docbook stylesheets. "checking for docbook xsl... configure: error: unable to find docbook.xsl stylesheet"
I've installed docbook.xsl where it can be found which is in the same folder qt3 support is found and verified my system can find it there,, which it does. I still get the can't find stylesheet error. Is this a glitch or am I overlooking something somewhere along the line?
Ubuntu :: Print The Kde Centre Docbook Files?
Apr 23, 2010I have been looking at the docs in the KDE help centre, but I prefer to store some reading on paper to refer to when away from the computer. So. I don't seem to be able to print from the KDE Help Center, since it's greyed out. Anyone know how to somehow get the docbook files out to my printer instead?

Jul 25, 2010I'm completely new to DocBook, but am writing a few things I'd like to use it for. I'm looking to get away from the standard stylesheet (I'm using Ubuntu, and at the moment I use /usr/share/docbook-utils/docbook-utils.dsl). Is there anywhere I can browse different ones on the web to find one I like, that formats to HTML and PS/PDF?Am I even going about this in the right way? As much as I try and learn, I just can't fit it into my head how everything fits together with DocBook.

In some cases gnome works poorly when reading configuration from the .gnome2 directory. I would like to read config files from version specific directories. Is there any way to specify this when starting gnome? Environment variables perhaps? I know how to move the .gconf directories but this is not sufficient. I need to read the .gnome2 from a different path.

There may be many 'forms' folders on the server within many different directories.It is a requirement that everything within these folders are marked as being read only but people are not doing so for whatever reason, and would therefore like for it to be done automatically i.e. a script executed by a cron job every eve to esnure that all files within the forms directories are marked read only.

Apr 7, 2010I am making the transition to either Ubuntu or Kubuntu in the next couple days. I have been running the Win7 evaluation version which is pretty much just Win7 Ultimate.Two are internal, four are external. All of them are NTFS. So are my pen drives (512MB and 8GB). Will these Linus distros be able to access these drives? If so, to what degree? Everything I have read online so far seems to give Linux a mixed track record when it comes to working around NTFS security, etc.

May 7, 2009Until now i haven't had to dabble with bash scripts.
I have a program that reads in data files. These are named datafile01_R, datafile01_G, datafile01_B, they then increment, so datafile02_R etc i have about 600 of these. the program reads in 3 data sets at a time from each run, so files_01 r, g, and b.
The program then does its magic, and outputs about 40 different files, depending on the file, they gone to folders named R, G, B, psa, or tracking.
The program itself has configuration files to say where the files should gone when analyzed, there is also the config files that reads in the data sets.
At the moment i have to run one set of data, then go in and manually change the input file location, and run again. But, doing this, even though a different data set, the new set overwrites the old set in one of the output folders. So i need a way to increment the output filenames after they are written and before the program is run again with the new data set.

Jun 1, 2010Is it possible / how can I? I have two directories "money" and "assets". I have two users, "jonn" and "jean". I "need" john and jean to share a login called "post". I want John and Jean to use this "post" login to be able to write a file to folders called "money" and "assets". I don't want them to be able to "read" files in either directory. I tried chmod 400 and that didn't work. They couldn't write a file to the directory.
What permissions can I give / assign so that they can write a file but they can't read any other files? Remember, there are different directories that they will "write" the files to.
No doubt you can change file and directory permissions on files such that when you upload a file via ftp, it uploads fine but isn't visible to the uploader.

Jun 18, 2010I was trying to uninstall all my audio drivers/software because of conflict issues.Anywaysomehow I corrupted/deleted/destroyed important stuff. When I try to boot I get this message, "Your screen, graphics card, and input device settings could not be detected correctly. You will need to configure them yourself". I tried doing some of the various things suggested on the forum, to no avail. It wont let me log directly to the computer at the any terminal it offers because it wont accept my user name etc. Anyway, I partitioned the drive and loaded a fresh copy of 10.04 (which is what I already have) and would like to view the files on the corrupted side so I can import my urgent documents.
