General :: Don't Have Permission To Read DATA Partition; Partition No Longer Visible

Oct 30, 2010

I've been using Ubuntu 10.10 for just under a week. Recently, a partition called 'Data' has disappeared, and all my music and documents along with it. The folder is not to be seen in Places or on my desktop. My only way of finding it is to go to terminal. But when I try to open it there I get an error saying I don't have permission to read it. In Puppy Linux and SliTaz I can easily find the partition and read it. What should I do to bring it back in Ubuntu?

General :: Possible To Have Boot-able Partition That Can Also Access Via VM

May 14, 2011

I'm hoping to do something similar to the way you can install Windows on a Mac's 'Boot Camp' partition, but then you can also open that partition as a Virtual Machine using Parallels or VMware from within OS X.That way for the quick stuff, you just fire up the VM, but for the more 'intense' things, you can boot into Windows natively. The difference here being I want to use Ubuntu instead of Windows. (Don't care if I use Apple's 'boot camp' mechanism or a third-party boot manager either.)

General :: How To Access Partition Files

Sep 12, 2010

it all started with my eagerness to have a triple boot system with XP/Win7/Ubuntu 10.04. I had xp on a PC with an Asus M/B with a single 320GB SATA HDD.Then I installed Win 7 (probably into a logical drive). It went well. Then after searching for some help I installed Ubuntu 10.04 on to another partition. Fine up to here, but when I saw I was able to access other partition files from Linux but not the other way. Then thru some help from some forums I tried to free some space from the Linux Partition and make it as a shared drive between Win and Linux.

In this process I used GParted live CD to rearrange partitions and tried to format the unallocated space it is showing "you cannot create a new volume in this unallocated space because the disk is already containing the maximum number of partitions."

General :: Can't Access Ubuntu Partition In XP Even With Tools?

Oct 3, 2010

I installed Ubuntu 10.10 to dual-boot with XP Home on my Asus 1005HA netbook. The main hard drive is an OCZ Vertex 2 SSD. I've tried all the common tools for accessing the Ubuntu partition from inside XP, but none of them appears to work. Ext2IFS didn't let me assign drive letters - in fact, it doesn't seem to detect the Ubuntu partition at all. The Ext2IFS config tool in Control Panel looks like this (the SSD is 120 GB, and the Linux partition is 10GB as I recall):

explore2fs doesn't even start. Linux Reader can't open any drive, including flash drives and external HDDs.

I can't think of anything irregular about my system except the SSD. Could that be it?
