How can I access a Linux partition from Windows? How to read EXT2 from Windows 7 64-bit? Does a ext4 reader for Windows exist?
I am currently in Windows and was wondering if there is any way I could mount my Linux partition, so I can access and transfer files? The file system is ext4

View 8 Replies View RelatedRecently my laptop broke down and wont start up. I'm currently trying to recover my files to my mac with an IDE to USB cable. It recognized my windows partition fine and I was able to get all my files off of that, but the majority of my stuff is on the ext4 partition that I have on it. Does anyone know how to access the ubuntu partition of this hard drive from my mac?

One question that I have tried to Google for a solution with no success is, how do you access ext4 from Windows? Shortly after I installed OpenSUSE, my OpenSUSE hard drive "vanished" from Windows 7. aturally, I can access all my hard drives from OpenSUSE, which does support the NTFS. I am quite sure that I am not the only person who has this problem as I know that dual booting Linux and Windows is quite common.

I want to change /dev/sda4 to 83 to free up space for Linux without losing the partitions in this 'extended' partition!
I would like to know if there is a way that I can access my files on the Windows partition using Linux because the Linux partition does not have enough space to house all the files on the Windows partition.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have already done the installation process following the guide on Ubuntu's site, got everything up and running but the partition that I made in the installer was too small. I was then directed by a friend (a slightly less inexperienced newbie) to modify this through Easeus Partition Manager. I shrunk the Windows 7 partition to only the space that was in use, giving the newly unallocated space to the Ubuntu partition. Set the changes and rebooted the computer, then got the message "unknown filesystem, grub rescue". Now have no idea what to do with this. What happened??

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was using gparted to resize my /var partition, which is supposed to be an ext4 partition, and during the beginning stages of the resize/move procedure I cancelled out of the process despite the warning this might be bad. The process was in the middle of the "read" stage so I figured nothing can go wrong during a read, but now I cannot access this partition mount wise. Is there anyway to repair this?

Is there a way to recover NTFS partition now ? The partition </dev/sdb1> was 'ntfs' and mkfs.ext4 did not check if it was a ext4 or give any pre-check warning, just went ahead with making the ext4 fs on a ntfs partition.
In an attempt to shrink my Data partition on my 500GB drive I had succeded in shrinking it but I think I have broken the partition table as now it refuses to mount. When trying to mount I get this error mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sda2 I have done some searching around but most fixes haven't worked because they are based on ext2/3 File systems and this partition is ext4. Using Ubuntu 10.04 x64.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed ubuntu via the windows executable and I couldn't mount my NTFS partition. I found this a little odd and I checked fdisk and it seems to think I don't have an ext4 partition as my entire internal HD is displayed as NTFS.

Windows recognizes that 30GB were taken from the NTFS partition for my linux install. It reads the max partition size as 465GB. fstab reports the NTFS partition size as 488GB.
I have a desktop, a cellphone. I do NOT HAVE a disk drive, a USB stick or anything of the sort.
The desktop has two operating systems on a single hard drive: Ubuntu 10.04 and Windows 7. I need to get internet access in Windows 7.
The cellphone is a Galaxy S Vibrant, and is tethered so that I can connect to the internet through it. In Ubuntu, the tether is automatically supported. I just shove a USB cable between the cellphone and the phone and I've got internet in Linux. But in Windows, the tether needs drivers. I can't connect to my phone in Windows without them.
So, I pretty much have to put the installer in Windows from Linux, so I can run it, have internet in Windows and not get fired tomorrow.
I have $0, so picking up (or borrowing) something I can use to talk between the two computers is not an option.
But in Ubuntu, I do not see my Windows partition. It's not in media and it's not in mnt.
What can I do to get a damn file over to Windows?
Note in bold and italic to show that it's important: NTFS-Config only shows my Ubuntu drive, it seems.

I have an external 320gb Hard drive. My plan was to have 250gb for My Documents of mainly music, films and word documents. And 50gb set aside for ubuntu, in a separate partition.To do this I need to partition the 50gb partition as ext4? then add a swap file of how big? Do i even need a swap space if I have 4gb of physical RAM?
