General :: HD Cameras With Pan/Tilt/Zoom Features Supported?
Aug 25, 2011
How to connect HDMI camera to Linux? I have tried a few cameras such as the Bullet HD. I was never able to make it work in my CentOS, Fedora, I returned their product finally, it was a nightmare. Therefore instead of risking for next failure I am looking for a definitive answer on this, so that no driver issues arise under Linux and finally allow me not to use Windows or Mac anymore. Has anyone ever had success with making a very very good quality camera work in Linux, such as for example this one? Which HD cameras are there for Linux? There should be no driver issues and they should also allow me to perform pan/tilt/zoom actions using USB, Firewire or the S-Video interface.
I have installed openSUSE 11.2 in my PC. To enable compiz I have download and installed (using OneClick) the nVidia driver for my nVidia GForce 8500GT video card.I need to enable the 'Enhanced Zoom' because I'm a low vision user and I need a magnifier better than Orca. The problem is that when i try to enable it (from ccsm) there isn't any zoom... I try to press META (or Super) and scroll with wheel (SUPER + Button 4) but nothing.
I have see that if I press Super+2 (increase zoom) the mouse pointer moves to a specific screen zone but the screen will not zoom.
Simple. UUID is apparently limited to a single UUID to be defined. Example UUID="DEB0-0001","3338-3164" separated with a comma is not working.
What could be the linux alternatives for pluging several UUID disks? How to bypass when there is a CF card and a reader box, since blkid gives no UUID ?
Is it possible to install Snavtclient, as i don't have much idea but i heard that i can view cameras online for AVTECH DVR once it is installed, i tried to download and install it through terminal but got this error.

I have a nice widescreen HPL2045w monitor. My system has an NVIDIA GeForce 6150 card and I'm using the NVIDIA driver for X (Linux AMD64) and it's GREAT ... except I have A HUGE PROBLEM when I try to use xrandr to rotate the screen over to the left!
(And that it the whole point of this monitor, since it's so wide... I want to have a "long" screen for viewing lots of text and stuff!)
Ok what happens is when I do "randr -o left" it rotates, but there's a huge chunk of the X desktop off to the right of the screen and I can't see it. Is there a way to resize it? Also, most of the time the desktop ends well before the bottom of the monitor. I can see the background image that I have on my xdm screen peeking through, so it MUST be possible to utilize the whole screen ... I found a few modes where I can get to the bottom of the screen, but ALWAYS no matter what about half of the desktop is lost and hidden to the right.
I have been trying to create a new mode with xrandr but this has not been working.
What do you do when you have a widescreen tilt monitor and want to rotate it and use the long vertical screen for your X session? Shouldn't the X session just resize everything to fit? Or can this be done? I don't need super resolution guys, I just need to get everything to fit in the screen... would love your help!
I'm using stable Debian (lenny), with all the latest X, xrandr, the nvidia package, etc. I'm not afraid to experiment but I'm coming up empty!
I am using a Logitech Wave wireless mouse (no keyboard, since I'm on a notebook), and I am trying to get the tilt to work on my scroll wheel. It is being recognized as simply Left/Right keypresses, e.g. Alt-[Left Tilt] backs up a page in Firefox. Does anyone know how I can remap that to something else? In my case, Alt-Tab and Alt-Shift-Tab.
When I connect my PDA (AT&T Tilt with Windows Mobile 6.1) to my desktop via USB (my desktop is connected to Internet via LAN), I can't access Internet from my PDA. How can I share Internet from my desktop with my mobile phone?
p.s. I can only find how to access Internet on a desktop using a mobile phone as a modem.
i was wondering if we can tilt our desktop environment to horizontal position.. what i meant is tilt 90 degree so that i can books with my head on the bed...
do i have to configure xorg ? or any shortcut / software to do this?
When I zoom out to see all my virtual desktops using the expo plugin in compiz, it displays them side by side. I want to make the windows bigger. I have four virtual desktops and would prefer to have it display two in one row and two in another row so that I can get a better view of what's going on in them. Is there a way to do that?
In Firefox 3.6 on Ubuntu 9.10, certain sites seem to use bitmap fonts for any fixed-width fonts, but only at specific zoom levels. This site and other Stack Exchange sites are among the affected sites, and of course the default zoom level is affected. At unaffected zoom levels, I get the expected smooth curvy fonts. How can I make Firefox use the nice curvy smooth fonts at all zoom levels?
I'm looking for a way to remove embedded features from a PDF document. I recently purchased a Kindle DX. When I try to open some of my PDF files on the device, I get a message saying: this pdf cannot be opened due to embedded features not yet supported by kindleI'm looking for a way to remove the use of these features from the document so I can view it on my Kindle. I'm a Ubuntu Linux user. (I tried opening the PDF in Document Viewer and printing it to a PDF file by going to File->Print. This make it so I could open it on the Kindle DX, but the font is messed up and very difficult to read. This won't do.)
Is if an existing option for me to disable the copy-on-write features of the MMU? I'm doing this for a project. I do not see this on the config menus (or I did not find the correct place). If it's not an existing option, do anyone know how can I change the kernel so that it can do non-copy-on-write fork?
I just installed Arch Linux, and then GNOME. But now I am regretiing the GNOME decision for one main reason; it works against the idea of K.I.S.S. and technical transperancy. But, I do like having a fully-featured GUI DE.
So, which Desktop Environment best follows the K.I.S.S. philosophy, without compromising on features? All opinions welcome, and maybe even a screenshot
I recently made the switch from windows and mac system to fedora 13 64 bit kde, which has been a challenging 6 months, not having a IT background. Anyway, overall now that I am getting the hang of it I really like fedora 13 kde, nice job guys. I have one final obstacle remaining that I have not been able to figure out. I have the necessary rpms for video and sound. I am able to successfully copy video from DVD's and play them from hard drive without issue using VLC. However, when I try to import avi files from my camera's sd memory card, the videos always end up "corrupted" and when repaired do not play sound. Again, I can play AVI's from dvd's fine. Interestingly, I can take the same files from my fedora box and copy them onto a usb stick and transfer them into my mac and they play fine.
I suspect there is a codec issue possibly with VLC, but not sure. I also tried on the default player, but cannot remember the name of that right now and my wife is presently watching her Mary Kay dvd on it as it is hooked up to our TV . My video codec knowledge is pretty basic. Can someone point me in the right direction of what the problem might actually be, another post, something?
Everything's working fine except for this error I get during bootup: udev: missing sysfs features; please update the kernel or disable the kernel's CONFIG_SYSFS_DEPRECATED option. udev may fail to work correctly
I don't know what to do with this. I built the kernel using the genkernel script. I'm using kernel 2.6.31-gentoo-r6 on an amd64 processor
I have a small issue that I would <3 to get worked out . Here is the skinny of it. I have a laptop running Ubuntu 9.04. It has 3 USB ports. I have 2 Logitec Quickcam 4000's. I am using zoneminder for viewing the cameras. The issue that I am running into is as follows. I can not seem to view both cameras at the same time. If I unplug one of the cameras the other will work fine and vice versa so I know the cameras work. Here is the output of lsusb without the cameras
Code: Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub After plugging the cameras in

I looked around on the web using all the google-fu that I have available to me and I just cant seem to find what I am looking for. I was even going to make my first attempt at compiling the driver but I don't really know where to look for info regarding bandwidth limitations...nor do I really know where to place the driver source, and what to do after I make make install .
Using Arch Linux. I am looking for a good word processor. I don't need a lot of file format support. Only RTF (for WordPad on W$). I want one that it is easy to use. I've been searching on Google and these are the ones that constantly show up. I have tried them, and don't like them. (Abiword was OK, but I couldn't get spell-check to work...)Just something light and easy to use, with just the usual features. I don't want a billion features. All I want is something I don't have to fight against to get a nice looking, presentable document. Emacs, Vi and *TeX* are not very easy to use, so don't mention the 'advanced' ones like that.
Does anybody know of any digital cameras that can be controlled via Debian? I'm not speaking of a webcam but a digital camera, and I'd like to be able to send commands to the camera via usb; perhaps by means of a bash script that would take snapshots every x seconds for a total duration of y seconds.
I am very new in Linux in general. I installed ubuntu 10.04 in a server that I want to be a CCTV server and record video from my survilience cameras. It was very hard to install the driver (it's a generic card from DX with 4 inputs) but finally it worked.in Xawtv I see the camera, but I need a good software to capture it. I tried to install zoneminder but it's too difficult to me as a newbie in linux. I installed wxCam and it worked, but it's only for one camera, I have two. I need a software that can capture from both cameras in the same time and not so difficult to install like zoneminder.I want something that will just work, just install and run.
I've written a simple web page and I want it to display live stream from one of my IP cameras. I admit I've never been interested in HTML ... How should I go about this? I can see the stream in browser using following link [URL]
I have a DVR with a Linux Operating System, I have a problem viewing my cameras from another internet server that is not the Internet Server where my DVR is. For example I have spoken with my internet provider and checked DNS, Gateways, ports and all the numbers that I configue my DVR, which has a Linux Operating System, and even made the updates, but still I cannot view my cameras from outside this same internet provider.
I have been setting up multiple security system in the area and was wondering what was the easiest way is to get the camera information that one would need in setting up survellance systems like zoneminder. I use xawtv for testing and
PHP Code: zmu -d <device_path> -q -v
But how can I get specific information about NTSC/PAL cameras or IP cameras. In other words is there a specific tool for that purpose? I can see my video cameras fine using xawtv -c /dev/video but can I look at those log files to see what setting it used for the cameras
<<mod edit: no longer relevant after moving post to new thread>> I'm currently trying to find which web cameras RHEL desktop 5.x supports. Does anybody have a list? (I was searching through hardware.redhat.com, but it is mainly oriented to server and workstation elements)
I'm running ubuntu 10.04 and suddenly when plugging my cameras or usb sticks, they don't automount anymore, but they did before. What changed is last days I tried to build and install nautilus-sendto manually from source, and it required dependencies including GTK+3.0 (unstable), I don't know what happened exactly or if my system is broken, because some of this packages built and installed fine and others failed. If someone wants to help with that to get my installation to its original state it would be awesome.I could mount my usb stick installing usbmount, it worked, but I didn't need this before. What I want now is to mount my cameras: here is the output for:
I've a question regarding two camera images. Suppose I've detected 2d window coordinate of 8 markers of an object in a scene in one camera and detected window coordinates of 10 markers of the same object on another camera.
I've detected the marker. It was easy. Now how do i know which window coordinates on two cameras are the coordinates of same marker? I mean there are markers captured on both cameras and some of them are representing the same marker in both cameras. I just like to know which ones are same on both cameras. Is it possible to find that out using opencv?
Is there a terminal emulator which works well in an Ubuntu desktop and provides the following features which Mac OS X's Terminal application has? Re-wrapping text when the window is resized.A Clear command which clears scrollback (as the shell clear does not) and does not clear the cursor's line (typically containing a prompt).
