Our websever, Linux Debian with mysql, apache2, php 5 went down this saturday. Now this monday morning i must find out why this happened. I am looking for the the correct log files. We know that the server was available by using ping so it is (was) an application failure. We know that the our apache support team had changed the php to improve performance to apc.shm_size=192M (a couple a weeks ago) because couple a weeks ago we got a "Unable to allocate memory for pool" error message. Our server is running on a Vmware Server version 3 as virtual machine with sufficient CPU and RAM resources. Where and which log files must be checked to avoid future download times (it is our Company web page!!!!)

Problem: MATSHITA DVD RAM UJ-851S ( rev 1.50) reads dvds and plays audio/movie (.avi,.mp4,mp3,etc) but refuses to burn.
Media: Taiyo Yuden DVD (always excellent!!) Sony DVD+/-R (w/"AccuCore" technolgy; recent purchase 3 days ago) Sony CR -R (previously flawless, at least for audio, doc backup)
Notebook: HP Pavilion dv9000 series (dv9310us)
Symptoms: 1. Reads all media 2. Starts burn w/acetoneiso, brasero, nerolinux 4.0.0; 3. Gets to 35% - 90% complete; then each app above reports: "unspecified error.. .. .." or words to this effect, asks for log/bug report, etc.
I switched from Ubuntu to Fedora and I'm having a little bit of trouble understanding why I cannot update my system. Fedora seems to be a little bit more complicated than Ubuntu to update and to do other things... I'm still willing to try it because it has a good reputation and good reviews so I will go ahead and give it a shot but before I do that I need to update it. I have an HP pavilion notebook dv2000. Just installed Fedora 15 and my system is telling me that I have over 700 updates! when I click on install updates I get an error:
Transaction error An unspecified transaction error has occurred. More information is available on the detailed report. Then on the details this is what I get:
I was trying to update my Fedora 15 amd64 when a Error Notification popped up saying "An unspecified TRANSACTION ERROR has occured". More details: "could not add package update for fedora-release-rawhide-15-3(noarch)updates: fedora-release-rawhide-15-3.noarch".
I installed fedora 12 today...installation went fine. Tried to run the software update ( which includes 415 fixes) and got the following
Transaction error:- an unspecified transaction error has occurred. More information is available in the following report.
More details show:- could not add package update for abrt-plugin-runpp-1.0.4-1fc12(i686)updates:abrt-plugin-runapp-1.0.4-1.fc12.i686
I have unchecked the box in the update list to be installed, but the software update insists that this update is needed. I cannot progress any further than this error message..
I know there are several posts to do with mail and mailx, but nothing obvious in terms of my problem. Below is a small excerpt from the script that runs, but seems to have developed a problem.
The email is sent, but with numerous recipients, rather than the one specified in the RECIPIENTS variable, and because most of these aren't valid, getting a dead.letter. I've put in some debugging to check values of recipient and subject, and they show as expected.
Fedora 15 software update "unspecified transaction error occurred" at system info before installing updated list. After unchecking every (no arch) update, all the rest (i686) were installed. now all (no arch)updates remain on the list to be installed.

I'm attempting to search through a rather large assortment of html files created in Word using 'save as html'. what I'm trying to do is find and delete these tags (they're causing browsers to display black diamonds with white question marks):
<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'> </span> Tags contain from 1 to 4 spaces between opening and closing. I get positive results from this:
grep <span style='mso-spacerun:yes'> filename.html but once I attempt to tell it to match any number of characters up until the next '>' symbol, it tells me I'm using an invalid regex: grep <span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>[^>]+> filename.html
I've been nose-deep in regex tutorials for the past day or so, and I'm still not understanding why this doesn't work. If I put the pattern (without backslashes) into a separate file and use `grep -f patternfile filename.html`, I get no error but no matches either. So far as I can figure, the above regex boils down to: Match the string "<span style='mso-spacerun:yes'>", followed by any number of characters that are not a ">", followed by a ">". If someone could tell me where I'm going wrong with this,
I installed fedora 11 and configured xdsl(pppoe). I then performed an upgrade and installed some apps. Internet still worked before the restart. After that even though i could activate the device, i cannot view websites. I get a server not found error message. I have tried using both firefox and konqueror. Internet works in windowsIs this due to the upgrade? If so which upgrade would have caused the error? How do i resolve it
I have configured a Nagios server which is working well with all king of clients. But when I added a new windows machine to monitor, it gives a error message "connection refused". I have set everything as prior machines.
Now, I just wanted to know the process by which we can check if server is able to communicate with the client's NSclient daemon. In Linux, we simply issue "./check_nrpe -H hostname" and if ok, it gives the NRPE version which indicates the status ok.
I am trying to share files between Windows XP machine, ubuntu server, debian server and ubuntu desktop. But mainly between ubuntu server and Windows XP computer.I also like to learn samba, because probably I could do all this with ftp server as well.I set up and configured samba following the instruction on Online Ubuntu Server Guide. But when I run the command:sudo /etc/init.d/samba restartI get:bash: /etc/init.d/samba: No such a file or directory I don't know what is wrong?
I have a Samba server conecting to a windows XP machine that is in workgroup named CLOUDLESS. I have a share folder that resides in the server that can be accessed no problem by the XP client, but I got the following error message from the syslog:
Code: Apr 5 18:15:44 firefly nmbd[5656]: find_domain_master_name_query_fail: Apr 5 18:15:44 firefly nmbd[5656]: Unable to find the Domain Master Browser name CLOUDLESS<1b> for the workgroup CLOUDLESS. Apr 5 18:15:44 firefly nmbd[5656]: Unable to sync browse lists in this workgroup.
Our server is a x86_64 centos 5.5 computer. we installed samba3x-3.5.4-0.70.el5_6.1.x86_64.Samba seems work fine, we don't notice any problem in using it. But in the workstation log file, there are a lot of error messages like:
There is a centralized FTP server which are accessed by clients to develop some web development project and to achieve this the clients are using ftp service. The problem is when they are trying to copy any files and directories they are getting the following error: "Message reported from the file system: FTP copy not supported, use move instead" I've checked all the permissions and they are all OK. I don't know why this is happening. they can create and move files and folders but can't copy files and folders.
Hi I am running a fedora 10 desktop. when i send an email using evolution the message was not sent but returns a error message:"Error while performing operation.DATA command failedError: 550 Viagra SPAM - Hi in Subject" and the message did not have an attachment just plain words. what might have gone wrong for i have been using this for sometime without a problem. or what security measures should be in place to remove this viagra spamAm I infected by virus on this fedora, all my updates are up to date.
Im trying to instal Sun Virtualbox but when download completes and I click on install I get the following error>>Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus) I wont even bother with this software if there are others out there that are as easy to use. I used it on Windows and thought it was great ! (thats how I eventually switched to Linux, by using it virtually at first)
When I start the vncserver process, I get a message saying "Starting VNC server: no displays configured." I edited the /root/.vnc/xstartup file and changed twm & to say "gnome-session &" (Without quotes). Not sure why I am still seeing this error. It's CentOS 5.4.
I've been plagued with this problem for weeks. It finishes writing the DVD but after it ejects and reloads, it doesn't go through the verification process. Yet I never fail to hand-verify the DVD using 'cmp'.
In this case today I created a multi-directory DVD and had an .iso image made first. It's still sitting there in /tmp (with a backup copied to /opt so I can close out k3b). How would I verify the .iso against what's on the DVD? How does k3b do it? Hopefully this means a command line solution.
BTW what are the command line apps for burning and verifying a DVD? I'm not so hot on graphical apps for this task anymore.
Using IMAP to retrieve emails in Evolution is not working correctly. Some messages are recieved, others are not. Those messages that cannot be recieved, reports the following error message: Unable to retrieve message
