General :: How To Debug Fatal Relocation Error
May 31, 2011Ive been messing around on a Solaris box, installing precompiled lib/programs from the repos by extracting them and placing them in my home dir. It seems everything ive tried sofar works, except for irssi. I get the following error:
$ ~/bin/irssi
ld.so.1: irssi: fatal: relocation error: file /export/home0/leem2/bin/irssi: symbol boot_DynaLoader: referenced symbol not found

I have run:
$ ldd /export/home0/leem2/bin/irssi
and it has no missing libs

General :: Slackware 13.1 Won't Boot With Ubuntu Studio - Fatal Server Error: No Screens Found
Jan 1, 2011I have this old box that I used at school that I wanted to re-purpose and use. So i decided to that I wanted to run xp, ubuntu studio and slackware so I can learn about linux and do some other things with xp. I think I got through the installatiosa all fine and dandy, and I installed grub for my boot loader, I can boot into studio and xp, but I cant get into slackware. the grub boot menu is sorta funky too, it shows a generic and recovery mode for studio which is fine, and then another option for xp, some memory test boot option, but then for slackware it shows "Slackware Linux (Slackware 13.1.0) (on /dev/sda4) four times in a row. If I select any of them they all end up with some error; the third SW [slackware] option down the list of the repeated 4 allows me to sign into root, but when I type "startx" i get :
(EE) intel(0): No kernel modesetting driver detected
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration
Fatal server error: no screens found
but thats with a lot of other text above that. if you need any more details, please dont hesitate to request for them. I'm going to take some time and cool down. I'm trying to get these three OSes running from one HD. I've partitioned the 80 gig drive as follows

Primary 2G Linux Swap

May 14, 2010I'm using an Eee netbook so i have no CD drive. I've used Linux for about a week. Someone else installed it for me using their flash drive. If I need to use a flash drive to install I will need info on how to install to a flash drive. I had it set up so i could choose windows or ubuntu at start up. logged into windows to play a game and all it brought up was.

Jan 13, 2011A newbie trying his hand with openldap.Disclosure: I tried posting at openldap forum, but my message does not appear in the mailing list-- and I didn't receive anything back from that forum, so please don't flame.I use red hat 5.5.I didn't want to use the openldap that is bundled with and installed by the red hat, so I downloaded and installed BerkeleyDB-4.8.30 and openldap-2.4.23.
I can see that the file libdb-4.8.so is in /usr/local/lib and /usr/local/lib is in my path (in my .bashrc).. so why not "read" it from there?How do I solve this problem?

So, to fix it, we tried installing the i386 libqt using command <sudo apt-get install libqt3-mt_3.3.6-1ubuntu3_i386>
But, now we get:

General :: Grub Loading Stage 1.5 Error 21 Win7 / OpenSUSE
Jul 28, 2011A few days ago I installed openSUSE 11.4 on a 1TB HP external hard drive. I have some very important files for school and personal work on my main hard drive, running windows 7, so I made sure the installation only affected my external hard drive. With the external hard drive plugged in it boots just fine but when it is un-plugged it says Grub loading stage 1.5. Error 21 and it won't do anything. This kind of pisses me off because there were no warnings and nothing was supposed to happen to my main hard drive. But this has already happened and now I want to know if there is any way I could fix it so I can boot windows 7 normally and still boot openSUSE with the external hard drive plugged in.

The RPM package gets created successfully, but when I execute that package in Moblin OS in the terminal I get the following error message: Error while loading shared libraries: libgda-4.0.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory.
I understand that the above libraries are missing on my system and I need to add them. My question here is do I have to add them manually after the installation of the package or can the package itself include these libraries and copy them to proper locations when the package is installed. In case the libraries can be included in the package I want to know how that can be done.

May 23, 2010When I try and boot my Debian computer I get the messages: Grub Loading stage1.5. Grub loading, please wait... Error 15 Is there any way of recovering from this - or is it simply a fresh install? I was attempting an upgrade from Lenny to Squeeze and despite a few hurdles it looked like it was all happening. Got the new kernel loading, and the new grub. It looked as though grub2 was working so I ran the grub-remove-legacy-support command (something like that) and now my computer won't boot grub or Linux.
I'm assuming the MBR on my harddrive is lost, however I don't know what state the partition is in. I'm guessing that maybe this has been lost as well. I tried a few tools from the Ultimate Boot CD but nothing here was able to re-install my grub or boot from any partition or even mount my file-system. I'm fearing the worst but would like it confirmed before I blow it all away with a new install.

Ubuntu :: Xorg Crashes With Fatal Error / Fix It?
Nov 28, 2010Xorg seems to crash randomly and with no real reason. Once it does, I can't restart it. If I try to restart it with GDM, nothing will happen. However once it crashes, Ubuntu's low graphics mode window pops up. Telling it to reconfigure the xorg config seems to do nothing for my problem. I will still crash after words.
Right now I'm running in an earlier kernel, hoping this will keep it from crasgubg
