View 2 Replies View RelatedThis morning when attempting to upgrade (aptitude update; followed by aptitude safe-upgrade) my system I started receiving the following error:
Preconfiguring packages ...
(Reading database ... dpkg: unrecoverable fatal error, aborting:
unable to open files list file for package `apache2-doc': Stale NFS file handle
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (2)
A package failed to install. Trying to recover:
It doesn't seem to matter what repository I use or what particular package that I attempt to upgrade (all or just a single package). (In particular, apache2-doc is not even a package being upgraded, although it is installed on the system.) I have rebooted, run apt-get clean, run apt-get check, etc. to no avail. I am running a standard Debian (5.0.2/Lenny) desktop PC and am not running any NFS processes, client or server.
I am having a strange problem with the Opensuse 11.2 Xorg server. Graphics hardware is Nvidia Quadro FX-5000, driver is ver 190.53. 90% of the time, I am getting a seg violation from the Xserver on trying to login via kdm:
[Code]...
...is the error that is present in the "kdm.log" file. So far, it doesn't seem to be user dependent (happens either as root or joe random user,) Again, so far, it only seems to happen with "driver nvidia" enabled in the config file, not with "driver nv" The failure occurs shortly after hitting return on the login screen. After it fails, it starts up a new Xserver, and presents a new login screen. Repeated attempts seem to *eventually* succeed, but 90% of the time, it fails I strongly suspect the Nvidia driver, but I have not been able to find anything documenting any similar problems.
I try to install IPsec-Tools on Slackware 13, but I get an configure error: configure: error: Security Context requested, bu no selinux support! Aborting. I'm linux newbie and I'm following a slackware-basics tutorial, I did as in the tutorial, but the configure stops and aborts:
Code:
# CFLAGS="-O2 -march=i486 -mcpu=i686"
./configure --prefix=/usr
--sysconfdir=/etc
--localstatedir=/var
[Code]...
What can I do? How can I enable/install selinux support? I guess it's related with AH and ESP protocols, which in my kernel are defined as modules (m). If so, how can I enable them?
i did compiled and installed kernel 3.0.0 on ubuntu 10.04 lucid lynx. well everything is fine except, a error message shown during the booting. Code: error: driver mdio-gpio already registered aborting how can i solve this error?

I installed Fedora 12 at school on my external hard drive, using Windows Virtual PC 2007 to run Fedora at school on a dell PC with XP 2000, which works at school! However at home, i am using Windows 2007 os, I install Windows Virtual PC 2007, wasn't successful in running Fedora 12.As soon as Fedora begin to boot, an error message appeared which said,"An unrecoverable processor error has been encountered. The virtual machine will reset now".below the message it gives you only option to reset the virtual machine, however this is a vicious cycle
View 1 Replies View Related"The installer has encountered an unrecoverable error.A desktop session will now begin so you can investigate the problem or try installing again".It didn't get as far as giving me the option to check cd disc for defects, try without installing etc.9.04 and 9.10 installed fine on my two hard drives, so presumably this is not a hardware problem. During a desktop session I noticed a prompt to install proprietary drivers (graphics?). Could this be the problem? I don't have anywhere near the knowledge to 'investigate the problem'.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm a first time user of xubuntu or any other linux derivative operating system and I was wondering if I could get some assistance on installing xubuntu 11.04 on my old laptop. When I downloaded the iso and burned it into a DVD+R, I inserted it into the machine and let it ran. It started well and I checked the disc's integrity before continuing with the installation and it passed that. Now, as I enter the installation screen, I select my language then click forward but the installer freezes for a few minutes and later disappears only to be replaced with an error message, "The installer encountered an unrecoverable error. A desktop session will now run so that you may investigate the problem or try installing again." and it does as it says and boots into a demo mode. I try installing again through the "Install Xubuntu.." link on the desktop but it follows the same problem.
My laptop's specifications are as follows:
ACER TRAVELMATE 290
256 RAM (240 usable)
Intel Pentium M processor 1500 MHz 599 MHz
Video card: 64 MB internal Intel 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller
Sound card: Realtek AC97 Audio
I recently installed Lenny 5.0.3 i386 onto an old HP XE783 box. I've got a couple of errors that pop up on boot, and I'm not sure how to troubleshoot them. A couple of the lines from /var/dmesg that strike me:weird, boot CPU (#0) not listedby the BIOS. ACPI Error (dsopcode-0595): Field [ALB2] at 120 exceeds Buffer [CRSA] size 104 (bits) [20080321] {along with two other ACPI Errors (psparse-0530): Method parse/execution failed; and (uteval-0233): Method execution failed.}.Error: Driver 'pcspkr' is already registered, aborting.
The most annoying thing (I think) has to do with the ACPI errors: the box won't power down after issuing a shutdown command; it bumps into single user mode then prompts for the root PW.
Ive been messing around on a Solaris box, installing precompiled lib/programs from the repos by extracting them and placing them in my home dir. It seems everything ive tried sofar works, except for irssi. I get the following error:
$ ~/bin/irssi
ld.so.1: irssi: fatal: relocation error: file /export/home0/leem2/bin/irssi: symbol boot_DynaLoader: referenced symbol not found
Killed
I have run:
$ ldd /export/home0/leem2/bin/irssi
and it has no missing libs
when installing Wine I got the message 'Fatal error loading rundll32.exe'. keep it simple, I'm a newbie.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI'm installing 10.04 using Wubi, Wubi finishes and asks if I want to reboot, I reboot and select Ubuntu. The installer seems to progress, however later the following pop-up appears

I'm getting the following error when booting from the 10.04 live CD: Installation Failed. The installer encountered an unrecoverable error. A desktop session will now be run so that you may investigate the problem or try installing again.
I checked the CD for defects, and even tried re-downloading/burning to a new disc, but got the same problem. I tried booting in to the LIVE session then installing from the desktop but I still got the same error. I have had 9.10 running on here fine, and after running a Kubuntu 9.10 disc I had to hand to check it would work, that installed fine (hence the auto-partitions you will see in my info dump below). Here is some information about my system, let me know if I've missed anything. I've also included a copy of the syslog below.

I seldom mess with Wubi because I prefer a true dual-boot but due to a recent reply in the following bug report I thought it might benefit Colin Watson to have a first hand source of the problem:[URL]Then "bcbc" replied in post #273 and shortly after the thread was closed Now, I've had precious little time to do much testing and such lately due to an overdue remodel that was needed due to a kitchen fire over two years ago, and weather related problems have just nailed me big time to-boot, so I'm sorry if I seem more scatter brained than usual, but such is life.
Anyway, I did as "bcbc" suggested but it appears that Verbose Mode is no longer supported in 10.04 Wubi I do not currently have a working camera to take a shot of the options provided if hitting Esc after the initial install but it just drops me to a grub> prompt.I've tried disabling every bit of the Win XP security, defragging, reducing and increasing the default size of the Wubi install, etc, etc, etc!Any Wubi experts out there?I'd like to test for regression regarding those grub2 updates but I can't unless I can install 10.04 Wubi on this test machine Also, I can't currently network more than one computer, so ssh is just not possible. I have no room! The moral of that story is to NEVER live in a home while you're remodeling
I am trying to run Fedora 14 from Virtual PC 2007 on Windows XP. Every time I try to boot it, it flashes some code and shows a blue screen with the Fedora logo for a fraction of a second. It goes to an ms-dos type screen with a white background and a single "[" in black. Then I receive an error saying "An unrecoverable processor error has been encountered. The virtual machine will reset now." I have googled many times and have scavenged the Fedora site for a solution, yet I have not found one for Fedora 14.

So i decided to that I wanted to run xp, ubuntu studio and slackware so I can learn about linux and do some other things with xp. I think I got through the installatiosa all fine and dandy, and I installed grub for my boot loader, I can boot into studio and xp, but I cant get into slackware. the grub boot menu is sorta funky too, it shows a generic and recovery mode for studio which is fine, and then another option for xp, some memory test boot option, but then for slackware it shows "Slackware Linux (Slackware 13.1.0) (on /dev/sda4) four times in a row. I tried to install 64bit 10.04 Release Candidate but it fails every time. I have been using 64bit 9.10 Karmic on this computer so it's suitable for installation.
I tried to install from USB stick and from CD but same error at the same point! It fails just befere it starts to ask your locations etc...
There must be something totally wrong on installer. Checksums are ok etc...
Errors seen with CD and USB stick installation: Pop up: "Istalltion failed The installer encountered an unrecoverable error. A desktop session will now be run so that you may investigate the problem or try installing again."
On command line I can see following error message on CD:
These errors with USB stick:
I am trying to install 10.04 32bit onto a new 1.5TB harddrive. I had previously installed 10.04 64bit on an old drive in the same nmachine. I partitioned and formatted the new drive using the old system. I have a couple of windows partitions and restored Win2K images to them, 4 formated Ext3 partions for whever flavour of Linux appeals to me a swap and two huge NTFS Data (home) and work areas. I installed Grub on the new drive, it also has its own partition for boot config files. The old drive has now gone.
Grub2 boots OK and gives me option for all the OS's even the one that are gone, thats OK I can fix that later with grub-update. Win2K boots fine and I see my NTFS partitions.
Now I boot from the Live i386 CD and chosse to install Ubuntu. The only thing that not allowed to default is where to install. Specify partition manually, Choose a spare 20GB Ext3 and the swap is already there too. I let it reformat to Ext3 and mount as /. (In Advanced I let the install boot loader default to ticked on /dev/sda )
The install goes OK until I hit the pop-up "Installation Failed". The installed encountered an unrecoverable error. A desktop session will be run etc etc..
I have tried this at least 10 times no. I downloaded and cut a new CD even though the old one worked fine on another box. Tried unticking the boot loader. Disable the floppy, removed the floppy.
I am relatively new to Ubuntu. Where do I look for the cause of the problem? I'll cut and paste the install log files in a moment.
