I have installed fedora core 8 on my system. But i am unable to use LAN connection. here are the results of some of the commands which give error messages

I install RHEL 5.1 on my system. But my Ethernet card is not detected. I found my Ethernet card is of "ATTANSIC Technology corp L1 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter(rev b0). I already downloaded the driver. Someone tell me step by step process, how to install this driver over RHEL 5.1.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI am installing Linux for the first time right now and I am facing a bit of an issue when it comes to network hardware driver installation. The NIC on my motherboard is a Marvel 88E1111 (computer is very old). During the installation of Debian, I got to a menu which read "No Ethernet card detected. If you know the name of the driver needed by your Ethernet card you can select it from the list", then provides me with said list of driver names.
However, the only driver I could find that came close the NIC I am using was one called just "Marvel", and selecting actually didn't do anything (screen flashes blue and returns me to the same menu). So I continued by selecting the "none of the above" option, and now the new menu reads: "A driver for your hardware is not available. You may need to load drivers from removable media (...)". So I thought I should google for the drivers and see what I can find. The official site of the company that made my NIC doesn't even list my model in their drivers' list (to be expected since it is so old).
Then I found this: URL.., but I was expecting more of a download than the source code itself.
i have newly bought Desktop system with the following configuration:

i successfully installed Fedora 14 in that machine.though the mother board has inbuilt LAN port,it is not detected by fedora14.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running an ubuntu maverick server, and I'm having a slight problem with networking. I've only got one ethernet line running into my room, and I've got loads of computers. The server has 2 ethernet ports, one integrated into the motherboard, one on a PCI card that I took from my old server. The on board ethernet never worked on my old server- but I only tried it out post-install, it was hooked up to the card during install (For the record, networking on linux has *never* worked for me if I installed then plugged in the networking stuff after the fact). So I just used the card instead. Transferred the hard drive into a new machine, and lo and behold, it would only work after I transferred in the card from the old one. What I wanted to set up is a basic NAT system, where the network connection is routed through from my server to my main desktop- but when I run ifconfig, my card is not detected, just lo and eth0. How can I fix this?

I have had this issue before, and fixed it by booting into Windows XP SP3 and pressing and holding the power button down until the computer shuts down. (e.g. "Unclean or "Illegal" or "Cold" boot.) Unfortunately, not having Windows XP SP3 on my system anymore, I have to do this in Ubuntu. I have tried several times, and it is clearly not working. I don't want to try too many times more for fear of damaging my ext4 file system.
I looked for this issue on Google and found only driver problems, not device problems. There is no Ethernet option in the BIOS, except for the Network Boot, which should always show the device whether its in use or not. Is it silly to ask if Windows in a VM in an unclean shutdown may solve the problem? The driver for the device is currently supported by the kernel out of the box:

I am basically wanting to use my Ubuntu 10.10 computer as a router. Note: Before you say just get a router please note that I am poor/cheap. I have two ethernet connections and one wireless connection on my netbook. I want to share the internet connection that is going into one of the ethernet cards through the other ethernet card and the wireless card.
DSL-->1sr Eth --> 2nd Eth (currently works)
DSL-->1sr Eth --> Wireless Card (Adhoc) <--(connects with limited connectivity AKA no internet)
The 2nd Ethernet card already has working internet, but when I connect to the Wireless card (through an Adhoc network), it cannot get an IP (I believe).

The two interfaces are on the same subnet :
eth1 : 192.168.200.1 255.255.255.0
eth2 : 192.168.200.2 255.255.255.0
Then i add a route for each interface :
route add -net 192.168.200.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 eth1
route add -net 192.168.200.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 eth2
Finally,i'm trying to ping :
ping 192.168.200.1 -I eth2 or ping 192.168.200.2 -I eth1
Ping command reaches error : Destination Host Unreachable
I want to know that in my Linux box under "Network Configuration....>Devices" i can see Device eth1 and Nickname eth0.
The ambiguity in my mind is when we want to down network interface we should call it by device name or nick name

I can connect to it from the same Laptop on the Vista which is on dual boot on the same laptop.
Further confusing is that I ran Fedora 14 and connected to another SpeedTouch today.

I have a Linux box being used as a firewall with Fedora 10 and shorewall 4.2.10. Secondary IPs are loaded on the WAN (eth1)card through Shorewall NAT and Rules file. The problem is that if there is a network hickup or if the circuit bounces, the primary IP comes back but I have to reload Shorewall to get the secondary ips back. Is there a way so that they can automatically reload or just not go away if the connection bounces?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install a second NIC on a computer running 10.10 x64 server edition, but am having a bit of trouble and hoping someone can help. I got a used gigabit PCIe ethernet adapter and hooked it up, but it didn't display when I ran ifconfig, so I assumed that it was broken. However, when I plugged in a known working 10/100 adapter from another machine it also wasn't configured.
I then did a bit of investigating and found that both cards ARE detected, but are unable to work for an unknown reason. Here's the output of "sudo lspci | grep -r Ethernet"

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm stuck after a clean install of FC14 on an old Everex StepNote (Doing this for a friend). I tried Ubuntu on it first (because it's so easy) but had horrible stability issues and terminal commands wouldn't respond - however Ubuntu detected and ran the eth0 port just fine. FC14 detects my ethernet NIC, but it won't work.
Here are my details.
lspci outputs this for my NIC:

Here is what I have tried so far - with no luck:
- I have toggled the networking switch on the laptop and had no luck.
- Downloaded Via's VT6102 drivers for Fedora Core, but they don't support kernel 2.6.35.*
- Run ifconfig to manually assign an IP address - which it DID take and did route add default gw as well.
- Did a ifconfig eth0 down and up as well.
After all that, I still have a "disconnected" wired connection (and yes, I did check the cable - it works just fine in my personal machine.
I have an absolutely bizarre hardware issue (concerning the Atheros AR8132 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller) that has been giving me quite a bit of grief for a while, and having completely hit a wall on this one, I'm a reasonably-experienced Linux user of several years, and have been running Ubuntu 9.10 on an Acer AOD250 netbook for several months out. I know that this model has wireless issues out-of-the-box (easily fixed), but it did not have any noticeable ethernet issues. That is, until I attempted an installation of Arch Linux.
During the Arch Linux installation, the ethernet card was initially detected, but unable to be used (because of a bad module in the kernel released with the installer). As I didn't know the fix for this at the time, I decided to reinstall Ubuntu 9.10. This time, however, the system failed to recognize the wired ethernet whatsoever. Instead, the external activity lights for the port (green and orange) are ALWAYS on, yet the device doesn't function.
I have done a successful install of the latest drivers directly from Atheros for the device and have them automatically loading with the kernel during boot, but as the device isn't recognized, the drivers aren't doing any good. Relevant information:
