General :: Dzen2 Toolbar / Statusbar Script (Simplified)

Oct 8, 2010

I have simplified (i.e., got rid of the stuff I don't want) dzen2 script:

Code:
#!/bin/sh
# Dzen2 toolbar/statusbar execution file.
# Options:
# -xs = which Xinerama screen
# -l = number of lines in slave (dropdown) window
# -u update continually
# -p <n> timed termination; w/o n seconds, persist forever.
# retval: 0 = EOF; 1 = error; or exit:n where n=user-defined retval.
# -e event... -e 'event1=action1:option1:...option<n>,...,action<m>;...;event<l>'
# event... -e 'button1=exec:xterm:firefox;entertitle=uncollapse,unhide;button3=exit'
# Supported events: (see latest README or online docs) .....

There are just 2 little problems that I can't solve.
1. It's not exactly at the top of the screen.
2. As you can see in the attachment, the text in time/date/memory/disk_usage is not vertically centered.

General :: Make Screen's Statusbar Show The Windows Without The - And $ Characters?

Dec 30, 2010

I have the following in my .screenrc file

hardstatus string '%{= kw}[%{r} %d/%m/%Y %C %A %{w}] [%= %{= kw}%-Lw%{= kW}%{r}%n:%t%?%?%{= kw}%?%+Lw%?%?%= ] [ %{r}%l%{w} ]%{w}%{w}'

and the statusbar shows up as

[ 30/12/2010 8:24 PM ] [ 0$ bash 1-$ bash 2:bash ] [ 0.00 0.03 0.04 ]

I want it like this instead:

[ 30/12/2010 8:24 PM ] [ 0:bash 1:bash 2:bash ] [ 0.00 0.03 0.04 ]

Ubuntu :: Locked Toolbar - New Position For The Toolbar That Sits At The Top Of The Screen

Mar 30, 2011

I have been working for the last three months with Ubuntu 10 on a destop. Doing just fine and loving it. I decided to try a new position for the toolbar that sits at the top of the screen. I did a right click and moved it to the right side of the scree, didn't like the look of that. Right click on the bar and moved it to the left, didn't like that either, so moved it to the bottom. having done all that I thought I could put it back at the top but alas, I can not right click on the Toolbar.

It seems as though the two bars are fighting each other at the bottom of the screen.I would like to go back to the default position at the top of the screen. I do have a terminal window available to me on the desktop so if I could find out the command line to type in, I should be able to reset my tool bar. Being new I have no idea what this command would be.

Slackware :: Dzen2 Won't Download With Sbopkg

Mar 29, 2010

I was very happy to see that dzen2 is now available on SlackBuilds.org because now I can use XMonad to its fullest. Unfortunately, sbopkg is not able to download the source code for dzen2. This is probably because the source is hosted on Google Code, which requires the user to click a second download link for some reason. I downloaded the source and the SlackBuild manually and installed dzen2 that way, and that worked perfectly, but I would really prefer to have sbopkg manage updates for me. Is there any way I could get this working? Perhaps I could just download the source manually, place it in the appropriate directory, and let sbopkg build it and manage updates, but I don't know which directory the source would go in or if this would even work.

Here is the link to the SlackBuilds.org page for dzen2: [URL]

Ubuntu Networking :: Network Manager App Statusbar Icons?

Oct 14, 2010

Now it supports many of the commercial mobile broadband modems out of the box. Great job!I've just found out, that the nm-app statusbar icons are messed up.Only found this issue in mono-light and mono-dark icon themes in Ubuntu 10.10 -No difference between wifi and mobile broadband connection types. It would be great if it's fixed (checked the symlinks, they point to an emty transparent svg... Would be nice to include cell tower, and connection type icons in the future....)-Connecting always show wireless connecting animation. (IMHO the Gnome-Colors connecting dots were more self explaining)

Ubuntu Installation :: 10.10 - Dual Boot - Over Simplified Installation Process

Nov 2, 2010

I'd just like to express my disappointment in the new installation manager you have, it is a massive downgrade from the previous ones. When I tried installing via your new manager it presented me with a few problems, first of all it would not correctly detect my partitions, I have 2 separate partitions, my windows and what acts as my play around, I install Linux distros, play around and install another when I get bored or run into bugs, so this is not my first time installing anything. When I tried installing I assumed the option to "Install alongside other OS'" would work perfectly, but instead of asking to remove what was openSUSE (which is what it would do in previous versions and other installation managers)and just install Ubuntu on top, instead it wanted to resize my windows partition and install next to that, this is obviously not a good idea because it would cause a lot of problems for windows, and windows wouldn't boot without me running a repair. So I tried using GParted to delete my openSUSE installation. I then tried to install the same way, but with no luck, it; didn't see the free space. So I manually set a swap of 2GB and the rest of the partition as ext4 starting in "/" (This is the only way it would work and have no idea what it means). Ubuntu installed and works... however.

I am also disappointed in the lack of control over the installation when it finally happens. First off, it starts to install even before you have selected where you are, with no option to stop, or pause. Second, it does not ask whether you actually want GRUB, which OS is going to be booted by default and how long it should display options before booting. Third, it assumes you want the root password to be the same as the user password and has no option to add more than one user or set a separate root password.

This installer is an insult of peoples intelligence. I'm a windows guy, but not that stupid. There is making it easy, and making it so damn easy no one ever learns anything, because it's all point-and-click.

Fedora :: Moving Toolbar Taskbar?

Feb 3, 2011

I'm a recent convert from Ubuntu (my company uses Juniper VPN and FedoraRHEL is the only certified OS for the client) and I'm having an issue that I can't seem to find the answer to.I installed Fedora 14 and have dual monitors running on a GeForce 8500 GT with one DVI and one VGA connection. VGA is the left monitor, DVI is on the right. After install, Fedora was defaulting to the DVI (right) monitor as the primary, so I used the Monitors utility to rearrange them so they went left to right. I even selected the left (VGA) monitor as the primary. I was hoping that the top and bottom bars would follow.My issue is that both the launch bar on the top, and the task bar on the bottom are still on the right-hand screen, and I can't for the life of me figure out how in the heck to get them both over to the left-hand screen. Am I missing something horribly obvious?

Fedora :: Open Office 3.2 In 12 - Font Toolbar ?

Apr 10, 2010

I have installed Open Office 3.2 on My SYSTEM. However, I think its look is some ugly, specialy its scrollbars, combo boxes to select fonst and size.

The previous version (3.1) looks much better. I think that version (3.1) is integrated with the system theme.

In the 3.2 version, the toolbar look is great... the problem starts in the font toolbar, continues with its scrollbars (seems ms w 95)

Is there any installation process to integrate OoO 3.2 perfectly with Fedora 12? (like OoO 3.2 and Ubuntu 9.10)

I switched to fedora to learn. I also purchased several vps (virtual private servers) so I could hack away and not destroy my pc. well I would like to do the following...let me call one server A and the other server B

Put to terminals on my top panel. when I click on A I will automatically via ssh be taken to the server A online and when I click on B (the second xterm icon) I would like to be taken to vps B. Ideally I would also like to bypass my password and just go in a root to both as again these are just things I got to learn on.. I don't know where to start but it sure seems like something that would be possible. Of course I don't care if I am clicking on the terminal icon or a program that just launches the appropriate terminal..
