Dec 17, 2010Does RHEL6 include smp kernel? When I run uname -arn it does #SMP but I want to confirm if a seperate RPM like kernel-smp-* is included in default installation.

Red Hat :: Why Kernel Cannot Compile Kvm.ko For 32-bit Rhel6
Apr 29, 2011I compiled kernel-2.6.32-71.24.1 on 32-bit rhel6, but there is no kvm.ko. what if I want to use kvm on 32-bit rhel6.
Steps to Reproduce:
1. install kernel-2.6.32-71.24.1.el6.src.rpm
2. rpmbuild -ba kernel.spec
3. find /root/rpmbuild/BUILD/kernel-2.6.32-71.24.1.el6/linux-2.6.32-71.24.1.el6.i686/-name kvm.ko
Actual results:
not found kvm.ko

Slackware :: VirtualBox 3.1.6 - Kernel Include Directory
May 31, 2010I tried to build the virtualbox 3.1.6 kernel using the files from slackbuilds.org and I got this error that says it cannot find the kernel include directory. My current kernel is 2.6.33.2 (slack 13.1).
I tried SOME_VAR=/usr/include --> (I forgot the exact variable name, but I used the variable name I saw in the error message) just a guess , but it didn't work of course.
Is it at /usr/src/linux-2.6.33.2/include or something like that? Or is there anything wrong with the slackbuild script?
Fedora :: Missing Kernel Headers In Folder /usr/include
Apr 4, 2011The problem is that I need to use kernel headers like <linux/interrupt.h>. However, those files do not exist in folder /usr/include/linux. Thus, compilation fails. On the other hand, the files exist in folder /usr/src/kernels/2.6.30.10-105.2.4.fc11.i586/include/linux.
How can I get the missing headers into proper place in /usr/include/? I even tried coping, but extra files are then needed and so on.
I tried to use "make menuconfig", but I couldn't see a missing configuration I need.
I also tried to use " yum install kernel-devel". This tells me "Package kernel-devel 2.6.30.10-105.2.23.fc11.i586 already installed and latest version Nothing to do".
Software :: Add Include Path To Kernel Module Makefile?
Sep 16, 2009I have probably a stupid question. How do I add an include path for kernel module makefile? I want to include "test_kernel.h" in test_module.c
test_kernel.h resides in a different directory with relative path "../../common/" . I can include the file specifying the relative path, which works OK:
#include "../../common/test_kernel.h"
I would like include it without the relative path and specify path in Makefile similar to -I option available in application makefiles. I have tried EXTRA_CFLAGS += -I../../common/ in the makefile but no use.

Dec 10, 2010I'm trying to get a Balkin f5d8010 working in Ubuntu 10.10, 64 bit. Most of what I see from searching the web is from 2008 or earlier. Anyone know if the newer kernel(s) include support for this, or can I get the drivers somewhere?

Feb 11, 2011I loaded RHEL6 (first time ever loading it) and it would boot to the cmd line. I changed /etc/inittab to boot to GUI, now it freezes. I want to change it back, but do not know how to stop the boot process so I can get to the cmd line to re-edit inittab. I'm working in VMware vCenter.

Jul 19, 2010When I installed a new copy of my distro on another partition, in order to preserve all the settings from my old my user account, I made a user account with the same name on the new installation, and then copied my old user account's files (in their entirety) to the new user account, overwriting it. I did the copying from the root account (where else? I assume the new user account can't overwrite itself while it's open), and root became the owner of everything I copied, making it impossible to open the new user account. So I then chowned the new user account's folder to myself. I still can't get in, because apparently, chown only chowned the top folder, leaving all subdirectories owned by root. How do I make chown include all subdirectories? I scanned the man page, but didn't see a parameter.

Jul 4, 2010I have a CMS I have developed, which will run on several sites all hosted in sub directories on my dedicated server. I want to create symlinks for the main files of the CMS, including all config files, functions and admin sections. Then there will be a few files specific to each site.I read some tutorials on creating symlinks, although most are not very good in my opinion.
Do you have to create a symlink for every file I want to include? Or can I just create a symlink to a directory? For example:CMS is located at /www/cms/.Can I make www/domain1/ point to that directory, and if so, will all files include themselves correctly. I think I am a bit confused on how this works.
