General :: Installing RHEL6 Using Oracle Virtual Box Having Win 7 As Base OS?
May 10, 2011
I have Win 7 installed on my laptop with 4GB RAM. I have installed Oracle VirtualBox-3.2.8-64453-Win. Kindly let me know the steps to install RHEL 6 on this.
I've AMD64 system with Ubuntu 11.04 installed. It's been rough ride for me to install oracle-xe-universal. I've already spent more than 2 days on this. Still unsuccessful.
1) First I downloaded the packages libaio_0.3.104-1_i386.deb and oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.1_i386.deb
(gave me dependency error for libc6 (>= 2.3.2), I modified the control file to remove dependency and rebuilt the package) (now worked fine) Oracle xe is now installed. Then I tried to start the DB it started but it's HTTP client never started. So I decided to uninstall the oracle-xe=universal. None of the sudo apt-get remove oracle-xe-universal command's didn't worked for me. So i went for manual uninstallation directions as per oracle link.
rocky@ubuntu:~/git/mygit/edas2/libaio$ sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.1_i386.deb dpkg: warning: overriding problem because --force enabled: package architecture (i386) does not match system (amd64)
[code]....
Even in applications menu I don't see the if oracle has been installed. So i conclude first time installation was ok but somehow http client didn't worked. After manual uninstallation, second installation didn't even loaded/installed the oracle-xe in init.d directory.
im a newbie in this of linux. I want to have a linux virtualbox with DB servers like Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL and so on, so i installed Fedora in virtualchine of virtualbox. In the network configuration i set the Bridge Connection to enable Fedora to get IP from DHCP and it works fine. After that i've installed Oracle 10G Express and it works fine, i can connect without problems to oracle admin web application from Fedora. Previously i checked if port 1521 is open on fedora so when Oracle is running i use nmap and i get this:
I downloaded ubuntu 8.04 and 8.10 iso for ps3. I get it to cd with no problem, go through the first phase fine, but then installing the base system I get the error "Warning: Failure while configuring required packages" I press enter it continues then this error comes "failure while configuring base packages. This will b attempted 5 times". Why these errors? I am looking forward to using linux on ps3.
I'm trying to install a RHEL 6 kernel from src in RHEL 5 I can install the kernel source without any issues, but then I'm having problems installing rpm-build 4.8 I get the following errors:
Code: Error: authconfig conflicts with nss_ldap Error: udisks conflicts with kernel Error: Missing Dependency: python(abi) = 2.4 is needed by package alchemist-1.0.36-2.el5.x86_64 (installed)
I'm in a bit of a unique situation here. I have a remote system running two instances of RHEL5.1 (dualbooting) and I need to install RHEL6 on the other partition from the active one. I understand that you can't upgrade 5.1 to 6.0 so I would need to do a fresh install. My basic question are, is there a way to install an OS from an existing OS to another partition? Can anaconda be run from an already installed system? Is it possible to manually install a system just from RPMs?
I've come across things like debootstrap for Debian and haven't found anything similar for Red Hat systems.
As I'm currently in a different part of the country from this machine I would like to achieve this without having to be physically at the box or reboot the machine (reducing risk of being completely cut off from it).
I'm a new user for oracle, tried to install oracle 10g on redhat linux 5 but gettinh the same error message.response/ runInstaller[oracle2@localhost database_10201]$ sh runInstaller _runInstaller: line 54:/tmp/database_10201/install/.oui: Permission denied_Doany one plz help me how to give full set of permisions to an user in linux to access a folder??
I have a router that is 1000 Base T and two computers each with ethernet cards that support 1000 Base T. All are equipped with Cat 5e cable. Before I had a router that only went up to 100 Base T and I would setup one box with linux running proftpd. On the other box,I would use win xp pro and use firefox to ftp into the other box and download a file. Download speeds went up to 11.2 MB/sec. Now when I switched routers, I expected something like 120 MB/sec but I'm only getting 5.3 MB/sec. What do I need to change?
I tried installing the 64bit ubuntu download to run on my mac book pro using Virtual Box. But on first running and installing the os it said it requires a x86-64 CPU but I have a i686 CPU. What distro should I download for it to work? (I'll use any distro it doesn't matter)
When I'm running, I like to just do a base install to start, so that, I can go from there, only added things that I need. I just did a Base install of Fedora 14 x86_64, selecting only the "Base" package, and "vim-enhanced". But, when running a grouplist, it comes back with this...
Code:
[root@fcdesktop01 ~]# yum grouplist Loaded plugins: langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit Adding en_US to language list Setting up Group Process
[code]...
I don't see why these extra groups are included, when all I asked for was Base and vim?
I'm a Linux newbie and don't know how to do a lot of things. Five months ago, I asked a friend at FreeGeek Columbus to delete the extaneous operating systems from my computer just leaving the one I used, and he accidentally deleted them all. No problem, I'll just reinstall when I get home. But everytime I try to reinstall K/Ubuntu, I get an error message saying Installation Failed. The installer encountered an error copying files to the hard disk: [errno 5] Input/output error.
That happens with four Ubuntu installation Cds, three live Ubuntu Cds, one Kubuntu live CD, and one Fedora live CD. I suppose there's a problem with my DVD rom. PCLinuxOS and openSUSE, however, do install, so those are what I've been using (I've only recently ceased with openSUSE, for the time being). Today, however, I got lucky trying out something different. I used an Ubuntu 9.04 alternative CD (not live as they abort when they come to the input/output error message) to install the base system and grub with lvm.
It allows me skip over software installation which is where the input/output error message happens. It boots to a command line. I don't know what commands to use to get the software to install from a mirror, or how to install repositories from the command line. I've never had Kubuntu, per se (only Ubuntu with the KDE desktop); so since PCLinuxOS GNOME 2010 (a rolling distro) is more stable and polished than Ubuntu 9.10, I'd like to fill my base system out with Kubuntu software.
I am attempting to install Ubuntu on my girlfriends laptop, She is pretty much fed up with windows, and has been seeing me rub linux in her face (Compiz helps haha). The major problem for me is she does not have a CD/DVD drive, Nor do we have USB drives. Daemon tools will let me boot a virtual drive at boot (in theory according to their forum) so this will be my choosen method. The concerns/questions I have are these:
1) If I install from a virtual drive, Will the Ubuntu partition list that as a device and try to load from it? (When I am done, I am deleting windows and thus the drive) will that cause any major issues?
2)MS Will have to stay on the drive for awhile, I plan on shrinking it down as far as possible (Most likly with gparted) then formatting it as EXT and extending Ubuntu to occupy the whole space, Can gparted do that? (I've only used it with Linux, Never tried with MS)
3) Is there anything I should do PRIOR to installing Ubuntu, other then backing up files?
Currently I am installing oracle 10g release 2 with Red hat Linux 4.I am getting the following error.
Exception Name: MakefileException
Exception String: Error in invoking target 'ntcontab.o' of makefile '/home/oracle/oracle_10.2/network/lib/ins_net_client.mk'. In forum I saw this kind of post and I did all the steps, then also getting the error.
i am facing problem in installing oracle 10g R2 on rhel4 x86. following error is throwing while installation:-java.io.FileNotFoundException: /tmp/OraInstall2010-02-19_10-21-06AM/oui/instImages/images.properties (No such file or directory)
am having trouble installing oracle 10g on my vmware's 7.0 redhat linux 5.9 on my dell latitude D520 notebook i have configurared my kernel parameters and followed procedure as instructed on oracle's installation docs but when i run the ./runInstaller i get this error sms.

Im trying to install a multiboot with multi distros, in this case Slackware and Linux Oracle. I have Slackware running for a while now and try to install it in other partition. Suppose I have Slackware in /dev/hdb and planning to install Oracle Linux in /dev/sda. My plan is:
1.Format /dev/sda 2.Install Oracle Linux in /dev/sda using boot disk 3.Modify lilo.conf 4.Run dual boot
But the problem is during the Oracle Linux boot installation: 1.It doesnt recognize the partition and file format that Slackware did in /dev/sda 2.The installation disk then force me to create another partition for memory swap and root directory 3.At first attempt I created a partition in /dev/sda with RAID format which didnt get recognized by Slackware so that I had it wiped out at the next attempt of installation.4.Just before the process of partitioning /dev/sda, Oracle Linux installer from the boot disk cannot detect my dvd drive although the PC was booted from its very drive (Why?) so It was asking me if I need to point out the location of another copy of the image file, which is located in /dev/sda1. The installer read it from /dev/sda1, I think not from DVD drive. This always happens in all attempts.5.At the end, it cannot finish the process of the installation and I have to abort it, without knowing the reason for it. This happens in all attempts also.
An unhandlable error occured There seems to be a programming error in aptdaemon, the software that allows you to install/remove software and to perform other package management related tasks. Please report this error at http://launchpad.net/aptdaemon/+filebug and retry.
I recently tried to install Oracle xpress edition 10g by downloading the ".deb" file of around 200 mb. When the installation was about to complete, the "Ubuntu Software Center" gave an error like shown in the picture.
Problem installing graphical mode of red hat 5 on virtual software. But text mode is getting installed but its also taking more then 1hr. I've adjusted all the recommended options regarding memory, hard disk ,etc. Also please suggest me good virtual software for red hat enterprise Linux 5.
how you install Oracle Instant Client on Kubuntu.I have Oracle XE and Lazarus installed on a KB machine, but Lazarus can't connect because it's missing the file "libociei.so".I found that file in the Oracle Instant Client which I downloaded and unzipped from Oracle.com. However, I have no idea how to install it. Normally you issue a "sudo" command of some sort. I can't just copy the files because I don't have privileges to copy to the system folders, and don't know where to copy them to anyway. The only online help I've found is for installing PHP with it, which I'm not interested in.
I m busy installing TYPOlight in slackware virtual machine, Im stuck I do not know where to get the database parameters from, I have configured phpMyadmin on the virtual box with mysql enabled so i guess i have to get the database parameters from there, how do I get the database parameters.
