Ubuntu :: Greek Character Not Displaying In Html
May 24, 2010I have the greek XI character (the 3 bars) in a title in an html file as;<h1>ΞJSFΞ</h1> but when saved by gedit and pulled up in firefox it shows;ΞJSFΞ.Could you offer suggestions as to how to fix this please.I think this is a firefox or Ubuntu problem rather than gedit because when I go into vim it shows ΞJSFΞ.

Jul 21, 2009I update system today. Just before , everything is normal. Once it finished , I found that my KDE can't display some characters. I am a Chinese user. The English words are normal,. Just some Chinese characters can't be displayed. When I refreshed the browser, they can be displayed again but some of them are font default and some of them are font Yahei. And they are displayed messed together. It is not pretty. AND it is not only in browser, anywhere displayed Chinese characters looks the same as browser. How to change them back to default font as one font not two types of font messed together?

We see that with ctrl-space input method changes, and we can select types with ctrl-shift. However, we cannot find a "normal" simplified Chinese,. Jun 26, 2010I've also tried:adding the font to local .fonts directory adding font to /usr/share/fonts simply clicking on the ttf file and then 'install' (which puts it in the .fonts directory) But nothing seems to help. As I haven't yet made 15 posts, I can't post a URL, but I'm trying to add Chinese fonts from the uni-heidelberg.de site. (A search on free chinese fonts will give the URL). The only installation hiccup I've noticed is that the font name, when the ttf file is clicked on in the gnome GUI, is (for a number of fonts, not just one file). I don't think that's the problem though.

I know gimp can apply some brushes and has water color, but in chinese watercoloring, you load different colors at the same brush stroke (kinda like a gradient with one color at the tip and changing towards the middle of the brush). I haven't been successful with gimp's brushes to have a nice smooth watercolor or painting stroke, it looks still computerized and "stepped"

Jun 12, 2011I was messing around with the alternate character panel app and made a custom character set. I then wanted to put it on a new panel and created a new panel. I moved the character set to that panel, and then started to mess around with the panel settings (auto hide, show hide buttons, and expand, to be specific.) So far so good, until I moved the panel from the right side of the screen to the top. I already had a panel here, and it seemed not to like hiding a panel when there was already one on the top.
When the new panel hid itself, all my panels stopped responding (any clicks on them did nothing) and my processor started going at 100%. I tried a reboot and the only thing that changed is that now I can't even see my panels. I'm guessing I need to change the settings back manually through the prompt, but I don't know how to do that. I am using 10.04 and have not upgraded gnome since upgrading to 10.04.
Fedora Installation :: Grub Not Displaying ?
May 23, 2009I've just installed Fedora10 from the live cd.
My setup is as follows:
Hard disk 1 - Dedicated to XP(160Gb) - Not used at all during installation!
Hard disk 2 - Used entirely for Fedora (250Gb)
I used the "Delete all partitions and create default layout" option.
Hard disk 2 was the only drive ticked to be used for this installation.
Hard disk 2 was selected as the drive to boot from.
On the next menu I put the bootloader in the primary partition of Hard disk 2 (NOT THE MBR OPTION) Then selected the default OS to load as Windows XP.
But now, when I start the computer, it justs loads XP like a single OS system. I never see any hint of GRUB running or attempting to run.
Fedora :: GWC Icon Not Displaying In Window
Jul 8, 2010I'm running Fedora 12 and have installed GWC(Gnome Wave Cleaner) from a tar.gz file. That was not without it's problems but lots of reading here and elsewhere taught me how to fix the makefile.in so that it would install properly. I even figured out how to make it add a gwc.desktop file to automatically add it to the applications menu. The app runs and works great but the icon in the upper left corner of the window is some generic icon for the Window Menu not the GWC icon. How do I fix this? I also added a file gwc.keys to /usr/share/mime-info in the hope that doing a right click on a .wav file would show GWC as an option in the 'Open With' list. This is also not working.

General :: Ubuntu: Tool For Displaying Disk Activity In General And By Process?
Oct 12, 2010My Ubuntu system is occasionally becoming very sluggish. I'm running many things simultaneously and it's very difficult to tell which program is the culprit.
I suspect that the sluggishness is due to disk activity since the CPU usage is consistently under 50% on each of the 4 cores of the CPU, and over 30% of the 6GB of RAM are free.
Is there a tool that can show me in real time the number of disk IO operations per second and the amount of data read/written per second? Can all this info be broken down and displayed per process?
Fedora :: Weather And Temperature Quit Displaying In FC11
Jun 29, 2009Why my weather and temperature quit displaying after I upgraded to FC11 from FC10. I used to see sun or clouds and the current temp. Now just the date and time. I have the location set, and even tried removing the clock and re-added to the taskbar.. still no luck. I know it worked with fc9 and fc10. Not sure if it worked in fc11 and then stopped working, or never worked at all.

Dec 20, 2009I have 5 Dell servers that I recently upgraded from 11-12 and have noticed an issue that after removing and re-attaching a monitor I am presented with the login screen. After logging in I am just presented with the background image, nothing else. I have logged in using ssh and restarted gdm with no effect. init 3 followed by init 5 still has no effect. Only when I restart with or without monitor attached does it start working as expected again.Has anybody else seen this issue? It was not present in Fedora 11 on these machines.

I've switched to jre from openjdk, which was a minor improvement, however I recall seeing much better fonts in my java apps about an hour ago before I switched systems.
