i have a problem with both spotify and teamviewer. Both of them work just fine but when i close the main window they keep going in background (as they should) but, not showing any tray icon, if i want to close them i have to manually kill them in a terminal. For teamviewer there's an option to choose to completely close the program by closing the windows but i would like to have the possibility of having the app working in background with a tray icon!!!
Spotify gave me the same problem but i read on spotify community that is a bug of the current version. Still i'd like to solve the problem with teamviewer.I had a similar problem with skype and i solved getting a plugin from https://extensions.gnome.org/ but for teamviewer i don't see anything similar...

Something happened where my RHEL6 computer locked up and I needed to shutdown the computer manually via holding the power button. When I turn the computer back on all I see is the wallpaper and mouse cursor...no log in window or anything. I can do the alt-shift F1/f2 thing where I can log in via terminal type commands but I cant get the normal display to work. When going init 5 in the console x loads but still nothing but the wallpaper and mouse. When I go back to console it seems to be stuck at enabling bluetooth devices...but I dont believe I even have a bluetooth device.

Wednesday I went to work, docked and fired up my older Dell C840 laptop (running Fedora 12). It had a long list of updates that it downloaded and installed (it had been off for about a week). When the updates were finished, I noticed that my laptop had locked up. After waiting a while, I ended up doing a cold reboot. After that, I get the Fedora symbol that fills up, and then the screen goes black with a single cursor. You can type in anything and it is reflected- even control and ALT codes. If you hit CTL- ALT-F2, it goes into a terminal mode. You can do almost anything that you'd normally do in terminal mode. The video driver is the original off the install disk, and it's never been changed- it works fine right out of the box.
If I try to start up X-Windows, I get a segmentation fault error. I've tried deleting and then re-installing some of the packages that were updated (trying this via yum), no difference. I don't know what else to do. I need to get this laptop going before next week- it's my work computer and I do use it a lot. Is there any way to get in touch with the people who wrote the updates, and file a bug report? I'm using my main (home) system right now, that for a couple of reasons needs to stay on windoze XP for a few more weeks. I've been around computers for years, but not Linux.

I've just started using the amazingly useful Ubuntu One, but I can't sync files from my computer, due to the pesky locked keyring, default, which wishes to be unlocked. Unfortunately, I have no idea what the password for the default keyring is. Is there any way I could find this out? I've included a screenshot, just in case.

A more comprehensive phrased question since I lost access to the other one.I would ask that the other one be deleted, not this one, as it should not have been migrated in the first place. There are currently two NTFS drivers available for Linux.
The NTFS driver included in the kernel, and the userspace NTFS-3G driver that makes use of FUSE.By all accounts, NTFS-3G works perfectly. My question then, is if the NTFS filesystem has been successfully reverse engineered, why have the kernel NTFS team not implemented the changes in their driver? At the moment it is still marked as experimental, and there is a good chance it will destroy your data.

I've been using Ubuntu for about a month now, gotta say I'm loving it. I've been spending more time in Ubuntu than W7 now. I've been trying to get Steam to work with Ubuntu without the whole thing exploding on me. I've got WINE and winetricks already pretty much set up, and Steam works flawlessly. The problem appears when I try to launch Team Fortress 2. The monitor instantly goes to sleep, but if I wait a few seconds, I can hear the in-game music, which means that the game is loading correctly.
I'm using the 10.04 LTS release, Wine 1.1.42. Kernel version 2.6.32-22-generic. My graphics card is a Radeon HD 4850, running Catalyst 10.5.

i recently installed wine, steam, and team fortress 2 so that i could play it. They all installed just fine except for not getting fonts but i did that manually. The problem is when i run tf2 the screen seems to scramble at the menu but after a while it goes away. Performance is terrible in game though and crashes have happened. im running ubuntu 11.04 and the beta of wine installed via software center. Everything else runs great if not better on ubuntu and i would really like to continue to use it over win7.

I'm running a VNC server along with a local VNC viewer on the same RHEL5 box. The colors for my GUI components look O.K. in the VNC viewer, but a map that the viewer displays is messed up. The color of the map is too blue. My system is using X11 protocol. I'm a newbie when it comes to Linux.

I would like to display a fully opaque image (e.g. PNG RGB8) on the desktop in an image viewer - but such that I can set the window (showing the image) to be, say, 50% transparent (so I could see through and compare with other windows below). It would be even better if the viewer just shows a "panel" instead of a "window" (i.e. I'd prefer just the image shown, possibly with a border - instead of a full blown window with menubar, titlebar etc).
I'm aware that in Compiz, it should be possible to run a plugin, and have any window you want transparent - but I was hoping for a solution (viewer) that would not be Compiz-specific (and even more preferred, if it is neither Gnome nor KDE specific - but I'm not sure that is possible).

I can't print pdf files from the Ubuntu PDF viweer on my printer - I get a message that 'pdftorasterfailed'. My workaround is to print to file then print the postscript file. Annoying but it works. I did some searching and this is a known bug in cups for Ubuntu 10.04. The first thing I tried was a system update, that did update cups but it still fails. I found this link:
[URL]
and have the patch files, but how do I apply them?

I am using a machine I SSH into to do some processing over very large files, but I am now unable to access it through ssh.The shell I had opened is not responsive, and when I try to connect again, it hangs even before asking for the password.I suspect this to be a memory problem as a couple of processes need to load a lot of the data to process it.Is there an emergency way of going back into this machine, or killing some processes to free the memory up ? I tried ssh ... 'kill -9 pid' but it is not even able to do this.Do you reckon the processing is still happening or is the machine completely idle ? How would you advise me to go back to it ? It's for my final year project, and I'm starting to stress !

I have a hard drive that I have partitioned into two large chunks. I have Fedora 12 on one, and I would like to put another distro on the other. I do most things on my Fedora, but on the Second distro, I'll be doing more sensitive things such as banking. If I wanted to "Lock out" the Banking distro, and only boot to it if I have an SD card or Flash drive, to act as a "key" would it be simple as putting the boot sector of the banking Distro onto the removable media, or is there something else I need to do?
to summarize, I'd like my system to automatically boot to Fedora, unless I have some form of removable media (preferably an SD card but Possibly a Flash drive) plugged in; in which case, I'd like it to boot to my banking Distro. What would be the easiest, way to go about this?

I have a few old workstations no longer serving the company. My thought was to use these as internet stations where employees can register their time thru our internal web-based application. I would like to have an environment working like Windows with the SteadyState add-on, access to a limited list of web-sites and no system changes by the user. I have looked at [URL] and [URL] which both meets me criteria when it comes to locking out the user from all system settings, but both seems to be totally open to all web-sites without the possibility for the admin to make a list of allowed sites.
Running it from a bootable CD without using the HD seems like the way to go for a surf-kiosk.

Recently updated the kernel in Ubuntu 9.10 and for some reason now, a folder which was not read-only now is. I can't delete anything from it. Have tried using the GUI for changing permissions, however, it has a mind of it's own and won't unlock the folder.
Anyone had this happen where a folder locked when you didn't want it to be?
