General :: Unable To Connect To Wired Internet Connection Using Ubuntu
Aug 26, 2010I am unable to connect to the Internet using a wired connection. I was able to use the wired network yesterday. But I had problems with the flash player, so had to reinstall Ubuntu again. I am able to connect to Internet using wireless connection. But I need to connect to the wired connection. I am using Ubuntu 10. In my IPv4 settings, it is automatically set to DHCP, using which, I was earlier able to connect. But now it doesn't seem to be happening.
But there are other entries on the syslog that were recent.

Jan 11, 2010I have been trying to connect to the internet with a wired LAN connection for a while now with no luck. Running version 8.04 LTS on a 32-bit desktop. Interestingly, my 64-bit desktop running version 8.04 64-bit automatically connected to the internet with no problems or input from me. Both are connected to the same router.
I figured i'd try and copy the network manager settings from the 64-bit machine to the 32-bit machine, which involved setting an automatic configuration (DHCP}. All went well except no DNS server address showed up on the 32-bit system, despite there being one on the 64-bit system. Trying to run Firefox like this results in the 'page load error' page coming up immediately.
I then manually added the DNS server address from the 64-bit system to the 32-bit system, and all that did was prolong the time it takes for the 'page load error' page to appear.

Jan 11, 2010I recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 on my Dell Inspiron 1545 64-bit laptop. Before that I used Windows7. In Windows, the internet connection worked perfectly well. But after installing Ubuntu, I am unable to connect to the internet. The network-manager applet finally says that "You are disconnected". When I do the "ifconfig", I got no IP address.
So, I installed Ubuntu 9.04 in the same system. But the problem persists.
I gone through many posts in this forum but nothing was useful.

Dec 5, 2010I have just installed ubuntu 10.04 using the wubi installer to dual-boot my machine. Under ubuntu, I am not able to connect to the internet or my router. Everything works fine under windows. I have tried to find relevant information in the forums, but nothing seems to work for me. I have tried disabling ipv6, setting a static ip, but no go. ifconfig shows no IP, dhclient results in no DHCP offers and pinging my router's IP results in Network is Unreachable.

May 25, 2010I have recently installed Ubuntu lucid lynx and at my old house I had a regular cable modem (no wifi) and never used wireless internet. Fedora Networking :: Samba And Network Manager In 9 - Setting Up A Wired Connection?
Feb 3, 2009I have 2 workstations that I'm trying to network together so that I can backup each to the other. One is XP sp2 and the other Fedora 9. Since installing Samba on the Fedora box and trying to get it configured, I have a problem that Add/remove programs won't do installs because it says there's no connection to a network. Network Manager says there aren't any connections, but it worked before the Samba install. Mozilla and Thunderbird can access the internet OK. Both workstations are connected by cable to my router and thus to my ISP (DNS server).
Two questions:- where can I find hints on setting up a wired connection (which card's MAC address does it want? router or wrkstn?) and Am I right that Add/remove is stuffed because of Network Manager?I now have Samba working from Linux to XP, but still can't get into Linux from XP. I tried the Linux PC's MAC address and set up a wired connection in Network Manager. NM still thinks there isn't one...
Debian :: Can't Get Wired Internet Connection After Reboot
Oct 25, 2015I have been using this fresh Debian 8.2 install for 3 days without any network problems.
What I did this morning :
- Booted in my windows partition and rebooted immediately just to remove the system from the sleep state
- Mounted a NTFS hard drive and copied some file to my .wine drive_c
Thats when I noticed that my connection was down.
I verified all the physical layer. My laptop has access to the internet tried to connect on an another router with eht0, changed the wire, nothing worked.
It seems like the interface can't get a dhcp ipv4 address even when I try to force is with dhclient, I get no offer when my laptop works just fine.
- Booted on my windows partition without changing any connection and my internet was working.
- Booted back on debian still not working...

Also the connection is wired one with modem only it's reliance broadband. The wire is connected between modem and pc but there is no blinking of light for this connection. The wan is active and wan's light is blinking and when I was on xp on same pc there was no such problem.

I keep losing internet connectivity from within OpenSuse. I've had ubuntu/kubuntu beforeand never had a problem. I installed opensuse and now after a few minutes of browsing I'll lose my internet connection.I also dual boot into winXP without any problems.I noticed that when the connection is lost I can't even reach my router - which is where I'm getting the wired connection from.So it's not just the outside internet but the local network too. It only happens within opensuse.

When I try to edit the default internet connection eth0 with my correct information, the minute I enter my MAC address and save the changes the network manager creates new internet connection with wrong data and use it instead! I can't select the correct internet connection from the top bar where the internet icon is, because it is just not there. The only connection that I can choice is the new default one with the wrong data! If I try to create new separate internet connection with my correct data the same thing happens! The moment I enter my MAC address and save it, the internet connection disapears from the list of internet connections in the internet area in the top bar and I can't select it. I tried googling it, but with no luck I think that if I set up my connection trough the terminal everything will be ok

Aug 14, 2010I have had the exact same set up 10.04 on the same machine connecting to the net with no problems. I had upgraded from an earlier version.
This time with a fresh install from disk the network manager does not see any connections. How can I get the manager to recognise the network and connect to the net?
I realise that it would help if I posted up the output of some commands in a terminal but I am writing this on my phone and can not cut and paste large chunks of text. I can only hope for some advice until I can get to a computer with a working connection.

I tried to download the drivers for it and it failed everytime. I did an update thinking that the update might fix the wireless, but it didn't, it actually made my wired connection stop working. So now I have a newly installed OS on the laptop, and I can't do anything on it because there is no way to get any internet.

Nov 4, 2010I've just installed the 64 bit 10.04 onto my new netbook, with ample specs to run the full desktop version rather than the stripped down netbook version. My only problem (at the moment) is that my wired internet connection is not recognized within the operating system, yet while I was downloading/installing Ubuntu it had no problem finding and using the connection then. When I boot into Windows 7 or plug the ethernet cable into my Mac, the connection is established immediately, and no need for manual entering of anything because everything is auto-detected. The really strange thing is I've run Ubuntu off a USB stick and when booting off that the wired connection was immediately recognized after startup.
